Harness the arts with ACE. Join a program that inspires, educates and engages like no other form of learning. The Arts in Community Education Program of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (ACE) has been a pioneer of the arts integration movement in education since 1990. Serving southeastern Wisconsin, it is one of the largest, most well respected, and longest running initiatives of its kind in the country. ACE underscores the commitment of the MSO to our community. Through ongoing partnerships with educators like you, we connect students, teachers, school communities, and professional artists with an integrated approach to the arts and curriculum. ACE is a unique form of learning, teaching students important concepts by moving them (sometimes quite literally) with the arts. Looking forward to the coming school year, we invite you to renew your participation in ACE, or to experience all of its benefits for the first time.

2 Connecting through the Arts

ACE connects throughout the school year with students, teachers, and artists through these program elements: Classroom ensemble visits from professional artists MSO ACE concerts Teacher professional development sessions ACE teacher guides, online resources, and mentors Classroom arts integration and review

Music is only the beginning with ACE. It encompasses all of the arts—music, dance and movement, theater, visual arts, and spoken word. Your school receives access to the best of Milwaukee’s and Wisconsin’s professional arts groups (and beyond) with one program. Further, ACE is successful in urban, suburban, and rural settings as well as public, private, and charter schools.

ACE collaboration. Orchestrating a partnership that’s one-of-a-kind. Since its debut, ACE has reached tens of thousands of students and teachers, and dozens of schools in southeastern Wisconsin. That has only been possible because of the deep and lasting relationships ACE has fostered. Among these, the MSO has joined forces with other respected arts groups to ensure that ACE delivers a program of the highest artistic quality and variety. As the largest cultural institution in the state, the MSO has the experience and the connections to keep this collaboration vibrant. All together, ACE is a unique partnership between artists, students, teachers, administrators, and school communities, as well as corporate and foundation supporters, to enrich education in southeastern Wisconsin.

Q A

Q A

Do I have to have a music or arts specialist at my school to participate? No. While ACE will work closely with a school specialist, it is not a requirement. What grade levels participate? The classic ACE program begins in K5 and adds a grade level each successive year until fully integrated at 5th grade. A middle school component, which works like a mini artist-in-residency, is also available. Is there an ACE curriculum? ACE aims to support teachers in integrating the arts into their own curriculum. Multiple resources are available to assist teachers with this process. Is ACE compatible with school models currently in use? Yes, ACE complements IB, EL, STEM, Montessori and other school models.

Q A

What does ACE cost, and what is included?

A

Some schools include ACE in their budgets, some add it to student fees, and others do specific fundraising for the program. At some schools, PTOs pay all or a part of the program.

ACE fees are based on the number of students participating in the program. Full student cost is $17.00 per year. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch are charged $8.50. ACE fees are all-inclusive. The only non-covered cost is bus transportation to the MSO ACE concerts. Q How do schools pay for ACE?
