ABOUT TRILLS AND CHILLS

Who’s afraid of an orchestra? You might be, after this hair-raising concert! From the magical tale of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to Bach’s thundering Toccata from Toccata & Fugue, this performance will explore how composers manipulate music to strike fear into the hearts of listeners. Dynamics, instrument choices, rhythm, tempo, key changes, silence, range – all of these musical elements and more are used to suggest mystery or fear, create suspense, and play with the audience’s imagination. So sit back and enjoy the ride – all from the safety of your seat in the concert hall!

Sensory Bags, Weighted Lap Pads, & Noise Canceling Headphones: Sensory bags containing special KultureCity VIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other resources are available for checkout, at no cost, on concert days. Noise canceling headphones and weighted lap pads can also be checked out individually. Items can be checked out from the Coat Check in the Gallery. A photo ID will be requested as security.

Quiet Areas: The Bradley Symphony Center has a Quiet Room located in the pre-theater lobby on the first floor. The Quiet Room, equipped with a sink, comfortable seating, and warm lighting is available for anyone who needs a private space to escape for a few minutes. Additional Quiet Areas are located in the Historic Exhibit on the lower level and in the Phone Booth Area on the second level. These spaces can be an escape for those feeling overwhelmed for as little or as long as they need. If you need assistance finding any of these Quiet Areas, please find an usher or Front of House staff member.

Hearing Loop & Infrared Listening System: Allen-Bradley Hall is equipped with a tele-coil or T-coil Loop system. No additional assistive listening devices are required for patrons with compatible hearing aids or cochlear implants. Allen-Bradley Hall is also equipped with an infrared listening system. Assistive listening devices are offered free of charge and can be checked out from the house manager. A photo ID will be requested as security.

YANIV DINUR , resident conductor

Winner of the 2019 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Fellow Award, Yaniv Dinur is the resident conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and music director of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. He is lauded for his insightful interpretations and unique ability to connect with concertgoers of all ages and backgrounds, from season subscribers to symphony newcomers.

Dinur conducts more than 50 concerts per season with the Milwaukee Symphony and was named by the Milwaukee Business Journal as one of the city’s most impressive young leaders currently making a positive difference in Milwaukee. In New Bedford, he has brought star soloists such as Yefim Bronfman, Pinchas Zukerman, Karen Gomyo, and Vadim Gluzman to play with the orchestra. Under his leadership, the New Bedford Symphony has been nationally recognized for its bold, engaging programming and artistic quality, leading to the League of American Orchestras selecting the orchestra to perform at the 2021 League Conference.

Dinur’s recent and upcoming guest conducting highlights include subscription debuts with the symphonies of San Diego, Edmonton, Tulsa, Sarasota, Fort Worth, and Orchestra Haydn in Italy. He made his conducting debut at the age of 19 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, which led to multiple return engagements. Since then, he has conducted orchestras around the world, including the Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, Houston Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, New World Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Portugal Symphony, Sofia Festival Orchestra/Bulgaria, State Orchestra of St. Petersburg, Torino Philharmonic, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.

An accomplished pianist, Dinur made his concerto debut with the Milwaukee Symphony in 2019, playing and conducting Mozart’s D Minor Concerto. He received critical acclaim for his “fluid, beautifully executed piano passages” and “deeply musical playing” (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Born in Jerusalem, Dinur began studying the piano at the age of six with his aunt, Olga Shachar, and later with Prof. Alexander Tamir, Tatiana Alexanderov, Mark Dukelsky, and Edna Golandsky. He studied conducing in Israel with Dr. Evgeny Zirlin and Prof. Mendi Rodan, and holds a Doctorate in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, where he was a student of Prof. Kenneth Kiesler.

AMELIA ZITOUN, cello 2022 Audrey G. Baird Stars of Tomorrow Competition Winner

Amelia Zitoun, 16, is a scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a training center for advanced precollege students. She has been a student there since 2019 and currently studies cello with Hans Jensen. Earlier this year, Zitoun was the winner of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Stars of Tomorrow Competition and the 2022 Civic Music Association of Milwaukee’s High School Competition.

Zitoun was also a finalist in NPR’s “From the Top,” a radio show that showcases the stories, music, and talents of young classical musicians. In 2021, she won First Prize in the Schubert Club Competition. In 2020, she was a winner of the DePaul Concerto Competition, performing the Kabalevsky Concerto with the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra.

Zitoun is an active chamber musician. In 2022, as a member of the Hermes Piano Trio, she competed in the Quarterfinals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. In 2020, as a member of the Aurora Piano Quartet, her group won First Prize in the Rembrandt Chamber Music Competition, as well as advancing to the Quarterfinals in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

This summer, Zitoun attended the 2022 Heifetz International Music Institute, an intensive 6 week summer program located in Staunton, Virgina, as well as the Moulin d’Ande Cello Festival in France, where she studied with Jerome Pernoo (Paris Conservatory). In the summer of 2019 she attended the International Academy of Music in Nice, France, where she studied cello with Xavier Phillips and chamber music with the Trio Wanderer.

Zitoun has been featured on WFMT: Introductions, as a member of both the Aurora Piano Quartet and the Celeste String Quartet. Before studying with Mr. Jensen, Zitoun studied with Horacio Contreras for four years. Zitoun has had the honor of playing for David Finckel, Lluis Claret, Richard Aaron, Steven Doane, Clara Kim, Astrid Schween, Julian Schwarz, Amir Eldan, Brandon Vamos, Vladimir Perlin, Anthony Elliot, Jesús Castro-Balbi, Yvan Chiffoleau, Tanya Carey, and Marie Françoise Bloch.
