LEE JAE WOOK SHARES WHAT DREW HIM TO HIS BAD GUY CHARACTER IN UPCOMING FANTASY SCHOOL DRAMA

-6-

L

ee Jae Wook shared his thoughts behind his decision to appear in MBC’s “Extraordinary You.”

This upcoming fantasy school romance is about high school student Eun Dan Oh (played by Kim Hye Yoon) who goes against her fate to find love. It’s a unique drama where the students are characters in a manhwa (comic). Lee Jae Wook will portray Eun Dan Oh’s fiancé Baek Kyung, who she has had a crush on for 10 years. As a member of A3 with a handsome appearance, Baek Kyung is always surrounded by women but showcases charms of a bad guy by acting indifferently to his fiancée Eun Dan Oh. He’ll also add tension to the drama by creating a love triangle with Eun Dan Oh and Number 13 (played by SF9’s Rowoon). “Baek Kyung is someone with a lot of pain and a tough personality, but I’m vibrant and positive,” said Lee Jae Wook. “For some reason, I was drawn to Baek Kyung because he’s different from me, and it’s fun portraying a different person.” He continued, “Baek Kyung isn’t a character who’s just cold and rough, but he’s also someone who is awkward at expressing himself, is possessive, and has a tender heart. I looked up many projects with dark vibes and studied them. During that process, I researched many emotions and expressions, and worked hard to portray Baek Kyung in my own way, so please look forward to it.” In the stills, Lee Jae Wook transforms into a bad guy and piques viewers’ curiosity as to how he’ll portray Baek Kyung who is hiding pain behind his cold facial expression.

UPCOMING KBS DRAMA SHARES GLIMPSE OF LEE JAE WOOK AS A HARD-WORKING PART-TIMER WITH COMPLEX STORY KBS 2TV’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” released new stills of Lee Jae Wook! “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of an energetic pianist named Goo La La (Go Ara) and an expert part-timer named Sun Woo Joon (Lee Jae Wook). The two come to a piano academy called “La La Land” in a small countryside village with secrets and scars that they are hiding. Sun Woo Joon is a character who seems cold and uncaring but actually has a heart of gold. He’s rough with his words, but he’s also surprisingly delicate. His efforts to distance himself from others will bring a wave of sympathy, and his indifferent personality will highlight his unique charms even more. The newly released stills shine a light on Sun Woo Joon’s lonely life. He takes a desolate break at the construction site he’s working at, and when his shift is over, he gazes up at the sky with heavy shoulders. In another still, he appears in a suit with a vexed expression on his face, and the cut on his lip hints that he was involved in a physical fight. In a different photo, his eyes are flashing with anger as he snatches away the cellphone of a person who took photos of him. His wary behavior increases the curiosity about the secret behind his complicated life. Director Kim Min Kyung shared, “Sun Woo Joon has a fresh and unique charm that has never been seen in a previous male lead. Viewers will be able to see a combination of fresh boyishness and mysterious maturity.” Lee Jae Wook also talked about his new role, saying, “I think people are drawn to Sun Woo Joon because he doesn’t express himself much, which makes them more curious about him. I hope to portray his charms in a convincing manner.” “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” will premiere on October 7 at 9:30 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out Lee Jae Wook in “I’ll Go to You When the Weather Is Nice” below!

GO ARA RECRUITS LEE JAE WOOK, KIM JOO HEON, AND MORE FOR HER PIANO ACADEMY IN NEW ROM-COM KBS 2TV’s upcoming drama “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” released new stills of Go Ara! “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” is a new drama about an energetic pianist named Goo La La (Go Ara) and an expert part-timer named Sun Woo Joon (Lee Jae Wook) who meet at a piano academy called La La Land in a small countryside village. Scriptwriter Oh Ji Young raised anticipation for the drama by describing it as a “lovely drama with a mix of refreshing comedy, the happiness and sadness of love, and the happiness and touching moments of music.” Despite an adverse change in her life causing her to unexpectedly land in a countryside village, Goo La La quickly adjusts to her new life. Eventually, she’ll become known as an honest piano teacher among the village people after opening a piano academy. In the newly released stills, Goo La La

actively advertises her new academy. Although she has played the piano for a long time, the term “pianist” hadn’t particularly suited her. Viewers are curious to find out what could have made Goo La La become sincere about playing the piano and what could have led her to open an academy in this unfamiliar village. The stills also reveal the faces of the students who will be with Goo La La during her growth as a teacher. Sun Woo Joon, Cha Eun Seok (Kim Joo Heon), and piano genius Shin Jae Min (Song Min Jae) will become a small ray of light in Goo La La’s new beginning. A warm and heart-fluttering romantic comedy will unfold at La La Land where everyone, each with their own scars and secrets, gathers together. Not only is La La Land a piano academy, but it will also be a place where the villagers can come to rest and heal.

KOREA’S NEW FAVORITE BAD BOY: A LOOK AT ROOKIE ACTOR LEE JAE WOOK’S SHORT (BUT IMPRESSIVE) CAREER SO FAR

Not long ago, one of my friends emphatically recommended I watch Extraordinary You. I agreed to give it a shot, but mostly to pacify her; I honestly had no intention of finishing the drama simply because I was expecting yet another high school love story. I got sucker punched by a K-drama. Hours after graciously electing to “give the first episode a shot,” I found myself completely caught up and twiddling my thumbs as I impatiently waited for the next one to air. However, rather than continue to twiddle them, I shall put my thumbs to good use and begin typing instead. This drama is simply excellent; I could easily talk about how sensational it is for hours. (And I have… thank you, my patient husband.) Instead, I’ll get right to the reason you’re here: Lee Jae Wook — Korea’s newest heartthrob, most currently seen doling out major Second Lead Syndrome as Extraordinary You‘s residential bad boy, Baek Kyung. The 21-year-old actor debuted on-screen only last year in 2018 and has already made his mark in the industry, proving himself to be incredibly talented and versatile. Although he has less than five roles under his belt, the way Lee Jae Wook embodies each drastically different character he plays is astounding viewers worldwide. Let’s take a look at his alreadyimpressive list of works: Lee Jae Wook’s first acting gig was the guest role of Marco Han, a drug-addicted programmer and hacker, in Memories of the Alhambra. It may have been a guest role, but his powerful performance had

viewers around the globe all wondering the same thing: Who is this guy and what else has he been in? He had been in nothing else at the time…but that soon changed. Lee Jae Wook as Marco Han in ‘Memories of the Alhambra’ Not long after, he landed a supporting role as sweet Seol Ji Hwan in Search: WWW alongside a number of big-name actors and actresses such as Lee Da Hee and Jang Ki Yong, to name only a few. Lee Jae Wook as Seol Ji Hwan in ‘Search: WWW’ Next, Lee Jae Wook made his film debut in September of this year as sharp-shooting student soldier Lee Gae Tae in Battle of Jangsari. The film also stars SHINee’s Minho and American actress Megan Fox. Lee Jae Wook as Lee Gae Tae in ‘Battle of Jangsari’ In the currently-airing Extraordinary You, Lee Jae Wook takes on his first main role as he portrays Baek Kyung, a high school student whose arrogant bad boy persona only scratches the surface of his complex psyche. Baek Kyung is an antagonistic character who is both angry at the world and hurt by it. It’s a difficult role, and Lee Jae Wook delivers his performance with the grace and maturity of a seasoned actor. Be sure to keep an eye out for Lee Jae Wook in the upcoming 2020 JTBC drama, I’ll Go To You When The Weather Is Nice!
