Min Kim is currently study in Interior Design major in California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco. Graduating Spring 2023.

She believes that the interior contains people’s stories. She thinks it’s a place of people’s memories and lives in every space, and she watches for herself that interior design is a crucial task. the interior itself is interested in various arts such as fashion, painting, and media design because it wants to interact with many fields. Her goal is for people to stay in the space she designed to have good memories.

LIBERTÉ

A boutique called “LIBERTé” collaborates with two fashion designers. Creating a space for fashion creation and development as well as public retail and showcase settings. The project’s frame and grid design concept. The brands of both designers allude to historical female slaves and stock. It introduces the frame and cube ideas. Therefore, the locals can communicate in Grid. To display the layout of general order and demonstrate minimalism with structure order, the grid can have limitless lines and shapes. Gird can be customized in terms of size and color.

INSTA MOMENT #1 IS the space was inspired by constructivism. The space was designed using geometrical shapes such as circles, lines, triangles, and squares. In each space, a display screen is installed on the inner wall to play the previous fashion show video or garments image, and only the rectangular space displays the physical garments.

INSTA MOMENT #2 IS a space that uses virtual fitting technology, where the walls create another grid and experience a maze of experiences. It is an experiential space where everyone can easily wear clothes. The mirror screen wall gives people a sense of being blocked and open at the same time.

HYGGELIG

Hyggelig is an assisted living facility in Austin Texas.

The word is a noun: the adjectival form is ‘hyggelig’. It shares the same etymology as the English ‘hug’, from the old Icelandic ‘hygge’, meaning to embrace or to soothe: it is intimately linked, in other words, with the body, and with domestic space as a protective (and protected) realm. I got this Idea from Word Hygge. Hygge also describes a mood of coziness and “comfortable conviviality” with feelings of wellness and contentment.

WOORI (OUR) HOME

The design of this restaurant is built on a grid. This restaurant constructed its structure on a grid. We established the main grid by dividing the area in accordance with it, added a column to create another grid, then finished the design so that the column’s shadow could add another grid.

The theme of the restaurant is “Home.”

The words hygge, family, and memory are used to characterize this theme. Particularly, the concept of hygge refers to a cozy and enjoyable state where family or friends meet together, treasure time spent with loved ones, and enjoy a simple life, which matches nicely with the essence of my brand.

SITE LOCATION

FLEXIBLE/MODULAR FUTURE HOUSE

SITE ANALYSIS + USER SCENARIO

Two units are located at 860 Rhode Island St. These two units are House and Office for one client. The buildings have very limited space within the area, the units are sharing the back yard and the design of the units is very close but different. We use the three small box buildings that size 24X12X10 ( W x L x H)

Minimalism is how I imagine the ideal home. Leaving a bustling life behind, there is constant activity outside and much occurs. I, therefore, desired that “MY” place, “MY” home, was as straightforward and inviting as it is. I want to make the house comfy.

Therefore, I focused on the ivory hue and gave a few paint colors to draw attention while keeping my choices to the color of the house. However, I chose to design the office building with a straightforward yet undeniably chic and stylish appearance. So that when the client arrived, they could trust them more and assign the job to the business.

Stair (House)

Impressed by the roots of the trees, I designed them. From the first floor to the second floor, the center of the stairs acts as a wall and divides space. So that it’s connected but at the same time there disconnected.

Dining Table (House)

“Don’t think the wall is just a wall it can be anything we imagine”. it was my philosophy for my dining table. I use part of the wall as my dining table. It’s a 45-degree rotated table. It extends interior with the exterior for a big party, so the exterior and interior can exit together.

OFFICE

Bathroom (Office)

It’s a bathroom made up of only the essentials. Eliminate the most unnecessary things, make it simple, and point on one wall and floor with the panel of wood veneer.

Note

The height is 8’-8”and length is 12’-0”. There was just one bed in the bedroom. The reason is that the bedroom is my private space and only to concentrate on my rest in private space.

This room is made of painted concrete walls. Because of the sound, it makes the bed frame a chestnut wood and covers one wall with part of the bed frame because the tree absorbs the sound. On the other side of the wall, a glass door was made for the balcony.

Note

The height is 8’-8”and length is 12’-0”. The dress room completes my own individuality and style. Used limited materials so that it looks consistent. Also dark wood tone and hidden light make clothes stand out a little bit more. An L-shaped open closet was used to make wide use of space and visually make space wider.

KITCHEN DETAIL

Interaction of Kitchen

The kitchen is hiding by the hidden sliding/folding door for the Blum’s technique. Since the space is very limited so when the dining table is open, the kitchen can be closed to hide by visitors. The trick about this kitchen is only one door on the right. Only the part with the sink can open the door. The reason is that you don’t have to open the entire door when you want to use the sink, but you can open the sink so that you can use only where you need it.

Dinning Table / Main Entry

The dining table is a 45 degrees rotated table that it help to interior and exterior coexist. On a normal day, it is just a part of the wall right next to the main entrance. But when the dinner starts it became a big dining table so that people can open a big house party

The main entrance is made out of chestnut wood. The texture is applied to the wood and the surface is volumize. The Volumize surface-worked was the handle to open the door.

EVENT AREA +BAR

NOTE

The performance area was inspired by juggling’s movements and designed. Juggling’s movement made a wave line and I emphasized it to design a translucent silk canopy on top of the seating area, a wave-shaped seat, and a surface of translucent plastic surrounding the biceps. The performance area tends Arena, so you can focus on the performers and perform in various ways.

NOTE

The bar area is a continuous same flow from the Stage. The area gives you the feeling of being the center of the stage. The reason is that the performers are the main characters in the stage, but I wanted to make myself feel like the main character in the lounge/bar space. And each room in the bar, ticket booth, and bathroom has a different height, so it looks like it’s connected as one, but it shows that it’s a different space.

Illusion lighting

Lighting design for a client currently living in a one-bedroom apartment, located on the 8th floor of High Rise Tower in San Francisco.

My client is a young couple who work in the technology industry. Tara is a health fanatic, and Tom likes video games. They hope to freely use reading, video games, movies, or electronic devices all over the apartment, and they also enjoy doing a lot of outdoor activities and want designs that reflect their hobbies. They would like to have “state of the art” lighting and control.

The couple sometimes suffers from insomnia and seasonal depression, and neither of them has such good eyesight, so they don’t like direct sunlight with light. They want to change the flex room into an office to work at home during COVID-19. So I will make with design a space that gives them a comfortable and natural brightness with lighting.

Inspiration + Conceptual Rendering

Dappled light. However, the dappled light will use light to give a soft and warm feeling rather than a cold and hard atmosphere.
