ska On a peninsula reaching up from the northernmost part of Denmark, with glittering water on both sides, lies Skagen. Sit on the soft sand of its rocky beach and open your eyes to the distinct Skagen light, so white it almost vibrates, and see why painters have been attracted to Skagen for more than a hundred years. Wade into the salty waves where the rough Atlantic Ocean meets the calmer Baltic Sea, and see if you can plant one foot in each body of water.

Music and style have always been intertwined. Your playlists inspire your look; your look reflects your playlists. In co-operation with minimum, Danish rock band Dúné presents a collection inspired by the legends of rock’n’roll, punk and new wave. The collection has been created around three colors: black, white and red. There’s a wide range of garments, from printed T-shirts with images from the last Duné tour to plaid vests and jackets. Everything can be worn with jeans. Henrik Lehn, head designer for minimum male, says Duné’s look fits well with the more raw side of the label. “They’re progressive and interesting people, and they’ve got an edge,” he says. We asked Matt Kolstrup, Duné’s lead singer, for his thoughts on the collaboration.

Why did you want to do a fashion collection?

For me, our music and our band are a vessel to something bigger and better. It’s a feeling. It’s a way to live your life.”

Why minimum?

We’ve had a long relationship with minimum, and we work well together. They’re really dedicated, and they care about quality. That was the perfect match for us. “

Why is fashion relevant to you as a musician, as an artist?

Style and clothes have become a reflection of the person beneath the fabric. It’s a manifestation of who you are and where you belong. For many years, we’ve been trying to express the ideas behind Duné on more fronts than just music. This is a natural step for us.” What is the collection inspired by?

We drew on inspiration from the legends of rock ‘n’ roll, post-punk and new wave. All those genres and styles influenced Dúné. We wanted to put these classics in a modern context, pointing towards the future.”

What do you want to express with the collection?

We wanted to inspire people to believe in themselves and unleash their inner wildness. We want them to dare to expand their horizons but treasure their friendships. This is a lifestyle we call ‘Wildhearts’, and we named our third LP after it. “

Feminine, but with a splash of street attitude. For spring 2015, we were drawn towards bright colors, fanciful prints, and smooth silhouettes that match and then outdo the current trends. We’re inspired by the grace of female athletes, and you can see that echoed in our casual pieces reflecting classic sport styles. Photo: Jakob Mark Text: Marie Irgens Jacobsen & Kay Xander Mellish

There’s something about My Buemann’s drawings that makes our hearts beat faster. When we look at the small, slightly sad creatures, we want to put them in our pockets, take them home and take care of them. At the same time, there’s something cool, stylish and minimalist about My Buemann’s way of expressing herself that appeals to us as artists and as people. She says a lot with very little. No unnecessary lines – she cuts right to the bone when she describes a feeling. Maybe we feel a bit laid bare ourselves. Like she’s seen through our disguises. What is she trying to express? “I have always been interested in people and often address people’s feelings – rational or irrational – in my work. I use myself as a starting point, but a lot of people recognize themselves in my work. I think it’s crucial that we don’t neglect our feelings, but that we dare to acknowledge them, which is part of being alive. The drawings are an attempt to visualize this secret world of feelings we all hide. That’s why I called my most recent gallery show My Secret World. My sketches are my way of communicating difficult, hard-to-define feelings using a simple language. I want people to feel that they are recognized. And I want to contribute to people’s acknowledgement of feelings that are an important part of being human.”

To long deeply for someone. To try to hold on to yourself. To be so happy you almost lift off the ground. To be so beaten-down that you can barely face the world. To feel so lonely it’s like there’s a big hole in your stomach. To love. To yearn. To cry. To live.

Strong, confident colors, set off with stripes and prints. Our spring 2015 collection is versatile and allows for many individual looks, from the casual to the clean and minimalistic. Quality and detail are the keywords. Photo: Jakob Mark Text: Marie Irgens Jacobsen & Kay Xander Mellish

The seasons change reliably every year, yet in food and fashion, every season requires a fresh perspective to make it unique and delightful. No chef or fashion designer wants to repeat himself. Each new season must bring with it new ideas. William Milsted is a cook who fascinates us. He re-imagines his menus constantly, for every event and every time of year. “I try to challenge people with my food, and get them thinking. I like to experiment with the way my food is presented visually, and to mess with the pre-conceived ideas people have about taste. I also want to expand the horizons of what is considered good food by working with other creative industries like theater, music and fashion. “Some of my craziest ideas have turned into major successes. For a pop-up event in Copenhagen, we created an entire dinner with the theme, ”Doped Up”, where every meal was a different drug. People were supposed to stick needles filled with truffle oil in their flesh. “I try to always be creative and push my boundaries and other people’s boundaries. Creativity is something you need to constantly challenge. Fashion and food have that in common - you can express yourself, explain yourself, and play using different effects. But at the same time it has to work in the real world. It all falls apart if the basic foundation isn’t properly built.” photo: Emil Lyders

The genius is in the details, in the small, simple twists that complete any look. Whether it’s an elegant, uncomplicated bag that holds everything you need for your day with exquisite style, or a witty piece of jewelry that adds texture and humor to a basic outfit, accessories are the difference between minimal and boring.
