The Days of the Son of Man Apostle Sergio Enríquez O.
Eight Comunnion Service
Guatemala, April 3, Year of Abundance
Every day that we live is one less day to our encounter with our beloved Jesus Christ; the study of the Scriptures is necessary to understand and meditate in the time that is getting closer; the Lord established some type of signs and dates but this dates are not human but are heavenly and understood only by His will; one of them is what we will study today, it is found in the book of Lk 17:26-28 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot- they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,” We have to pay attention that in these verses are described two times: Lot’s and Noah, but what those have in common is that they were eating and drinking; and other activities that somehow we see them as “normal” but they have a dark background, for example it refers to gay marriage. But how eating and drinking could be a sign since humanity has been eating and drinking for all its existence; this we might think because we only see this Word superficially but if we analyze deeply this two actions, we are going to highlight is a spirit that is mocking the Communion we have with the Lord during the Holy Supper; but in the world people is making fun of these actions as we read in: Gen 25:34 “Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.” Here we see in the time of Lot that Esau despise and underestimate his birthright, he value more the material things rather the spiritual matters. When we have a blessing for a long time we might think it is an obligation this is how they see the birthright and many are going to fall into this situation. We must prioritize our Communion with God; what it is our priority we must give our Lord the first priority as we read in Lk 14:26. Everything we have and own must be placed at Christ’s feet our gifts, our talents our degrees and remove Esau’s spirit of our life. Prv 23:7 “for he is like one who is inwardly calculating. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, but his heart is not with you.” Here we read again eating and drinking referring to the bread of the stingy. We don’t have to eat this type of bread, because the stingy has certain characteristics one of them is that he or she thinks everything happens around him or her 2Tm3:2-4; what is the cure for stinginess is to die, giving offering, tithing to stop being us but tell the Lord to take His place in our lives. In the moment we stop looking at our needs and see and help the needs of others we are not eating the bread of the stingy. Slm 78:29 “And they ate and were well filled, for he gave them what they craved.” These people ate the bread underestimating how miraculous the Manna is. Job 1:13/18” Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house”; here we read that the sons of Job were eating and drinking but not his daughters so he was unfair with his sons and daughters because he didn’t have inheritance for his daughters. This is a distinction that does not have to take place in our society; women are not less than men. At the end of Job’s process we read that he gave inheritance to his sons and daughters. We must remove discrimination out of our household. 1Kg 1:25 “For he has gone down this day and has sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, 'Long live King Adonijah!'. Here we read an spirit of encroachment that is a sign of apostasy, taking someone else’s place or trying to be someone we are not is getting closer to the Table of the Lord taking the place of others. Today we are participating of the Communion at the Table of the Lord, eating and drinking with a humble and pure heart; dying to our desires and human wishes but placing the Lord at the first place in our life and helping others. Not with the attitudes we read. AMEN! Transcribed by Wendy de Medina
