The Double life of Utopia: For Animal standard In the early 20th century, as cities got larger people utilized

a program called ‘zoo’ to see animals from all over the world with ease. They took care of, looked around, and displayed animals. And faithfully applying the Modernism spirit, they designed a zoo according to human criteria as much as

possible - for their own comfort. One species in one space, though cross breeding is needed... Or a certain amount of animals in a limited room, though energetic activities and running around is needed... People ignore geographical

features of animals’ habitats and natural habits, stick animals into an artificial space (e.g. hooves of a goat does not fit

with flat grounds), and suppress the wildness. Duplicity of utopia is in a zoo.

While this project affirms the urban circumstances of Seoul

and human scientific technique, it suggests an animal-oriented skyscraper reflecting its desire and cyclical system.

AFRICAN SAVANNA in SEOUL A savanna is a tropical grassland which is divided into

wet and dry season. It is located in African deserts and tropical rain forests. I would like to transplant an animal circulation system considering a landform, a climate, and a living condition of this region.

And for natural growth with the minimum supply of

scientific technology and energy, this project dataficate

The 48th floor is where an animal of the rainy climate

lives, and also is a sky-lobby as a start point of the zoo for human. So people can enjoy the zoo while going up

and down from the typical floor and visit the cave where the animals live in a group. Here, various animals have

their own course of movement. There are elevators for

a giraffe, ventilators for a skunk, and even a tour space for human being.

Gravity, Why so serious? As human civilization began, Architectural evidence were actually determined to maintain it. Architects will be the last for whom “the apples fall. Since gravity works as a sum, the theoritical shape of slab is flat. But what if

it happens the phenomenon that

free from presence-gravity? Gravity, why so serious?

Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL? HAL: Affirmative, Dave, I read you. Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL. HAL: I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that. Dave Bowman: What’s the problem? HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL? HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. Dave Bowman: I don’t know what you’re talking about, HAL. HAL: I know you and Frank were planning to discon- nect me, and I’m afraid that’s something I cannot allow to happen. Excerpt from - “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) by Stanley Kubrick -

Axonometric projection Beyond the ‘XY plan’, One of the axis are added. And it can be described as axonometric drawing by cutting 3 ways which are XY ,XZ, YZ plane. There is just a reference and promise, because there is no specific direction .

Thickness In the current gravity conditions, there is a wall, column, slab. Wall is able to distinguish between space and volume in the horizontal state. And It went vertically by stacking slabs in order to gather under the hard pillars . Â Now that was free from thickness . Maybe slabs , walls and pillars of the difference are no meaningful.

Non Architecture Competition International Competition

The great escape is still on the march. The number of the entire refugees who fled to other neighboring countries including Lebanon is estimated at about 260 million. Some of the refugees headed to Europe, which led to the change of system in countries of Europe which were influenced by this phenomenon. New social problems started to arise and the United Kingdom even decided to leave E.U. Because of Syrian Civil War the world is changing a bit swiftly. What can architecture do at this point? I thought about non-architectural ways. I would like to provide a space for exercising. By making good use of the ruins of war, I would like to suggest refugees a new living. They have a right to go back. Aleppo Syria, Nov,2016

Most surrealists were deeply impressed by the work of Sigmund Freud that revealed the fact that when awoken thoughts are paralyzed, infantililty and barbarism hidden inside our mind will dominate us. And of course this kind of art might seem grotesque to the third person. But if you be open-minded and imagine freely, you may share artists’ weird dreams with them. We can consider “Architecture” everything that has already been designed and/or built. That would define a realm of conventional solutions, often repeated in a self-referential system. we can imagine a counterpart, a “Non Architecture”. A world of unexplored designs and countless possibilities, that if found, could enlarge and change permanently the boundaries of Architecture.

This is a story about the wall. The wall did well for man. In its thickness and its strength, it protected him against destruction. But soon after civil war broke out, the wall was damaged and some of it collapsed. ‘what are you doing to me? I protected you: I made you feel secure and now you break out civil war and collapse me!’ “I want to protect you until the end, and I want to make a space for sport facilities to turn syrian refugees back” Then man trimmed with fine stone anchored between the wall and filled void by new structure for sport facilities. Man did training at the incredible palce, soon the wall felt pretty well. Medieval ruins at Kenilworth, John Ruskin
