This is designed for youth across the state involved in the dairy community to gather for a fun and eventful weekend. All-Breeds Convention Conduct Rules THIS FORM MUST BE SIGNED AND INCLUDED WITH CONVENTION REGISTRATION

While at the convention I will participate in all scheduled events or activities unless free time is specifically designated. All juniors must be in their designated room and lights out at a specified time. Absolutely no possession of any mood-altering substance will be tolerated. Violators of this rule will be subject to disciplinary action by the MJHA board or in the case of a board member, be removed from the MJHA permanently. Recognize the rights and comforts of others with respect to noise, language and general conduct. Accept the authority of the MJHA advisors and keep them informed of any special situations. All telephone, movie rentals and any other hotel expenses incurred are the responsibility of the junior member. These must be paid before leaving the event. Anyone found damaging hotel property will be charged for it. There is no leaving the premises upon arrival without approval prior to arrival. Card playing for money or any form of gambling for money will not be allowed. Card playing for fun is perfectly acceptable. I have read these rules and understand that if found to be in violation of any of these rules, I will be subject to one or all of the following disciplinary actions:

-Sent home at my or my parent’s expense -Ineligible for awards for a period of one year -Suspension from all Junior Activities for one year -Not eligible to run for the board -Removal or suspension from the MJHA permanently -Or any other actions deemed acceptable by the MHA or MJHA board.

All Breeds Convention Contests ........

QUIZ BOWL

A contest that is a favorite by many convention attendees. This allows juniors to team up with others to showcase their knowledge of the Holstein breed and the dairy industry. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Teams consist of four members (must all be members of MJHA) - Teams are broke up into two divisions, junior and senior - Junior teams require that all members have not reached their 16th birthday before January 1st, 2022 - Senior teams are anybody that is 16+, or are too old to compete in the junior division - Champion teams have the opportunity to represent MN in the Jr. Quiz Bowl Contest at the National Holstein Convention in Sioux Falls, SD

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Encourages youth to research a topic they feel passionate about that relates to the Holstein breed or dairy industry. Then present a speech at the Prepared Public Speaking Contest. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Participants are divided into three age divisions: junior ages 9-13, intermediate ages 1417, and senior ages 18+ (age as of January 1) - Time Limits for each division are as follow: junior division 3-5 minutes, intermediate division 6-8 minutes, and senior division 8-10 minutes - Champions of each age division have the opportunity to represent MN in the Public Speaking Contest at the National Holstein convention in Sioux Falls, SD

DAIRY JEOPARDY

A fun spin on the famous game of jeopardy that tests juniors knowledge about the Holstein breed and dairy industry! For those members looking to show off their skills and ability to design a photo display board about the Holstein breed or dairy industry. A great opportunity for all ages, especially young kids!

SCHOLARSHIPS MJHA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP

Two $200 MJHA High School Senior Scholarships are available to graduating seniors. Applications are due Feb. 15th 2022 to the MHA Office.

Please answer items 1-4 on a maximum of two typewritten pages: 1.) 40 points - Junior Holstein Activities: Describe all involvement and leadership activities in local, state, and national levels (committees, offices, tour, shows, etc). 2.) 25 points - Academic Records: List all classes taken and grades earned in high school. Transcripts are accepted, but are not required. Please indicate class size and rank. 3.) 25 points - Community Involvement and Leadership: List involvement in organizations such as 4-H, FFA, Church, School, Community, etc. 4.) 10 points - Future Plans: Briefly describe future plans and goals, indicate where scholarship will be used. Letter of Recommendation - written by a high school teacher/advisor or a mentor.

MJHA JUNIOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Two MJHA Memorial Scholarships are available to present or former MJHA members. Members must be currently enrolled in post-secondary education and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Application are due Feb. 15th 2022 to the MHA office.

Minnesota Junior All-Breeds Convention Long Range Production Award REQUIREMENTS: The animal entered for the award must have been a Junior Breed Association member's project (may include managerial projects). Please include documentation of managerial projects, i.e. copy of one of the following: 4-H record, FFA record, Jr. Breed Association Record Book. Only production records made during the actual time that the animal was a Junior Breed Association member's project may be credited toward the lifetime production of the cow, which is under consideration for the award. One award will be given in each production class per animal. If the animal is still in the same production class the following year, no award will be given. An animal must have reached 50,000 lbs. of milk to be entered. Recognition is given for 50,000 lbs., 100,000 lbs., and 200,000 lbs., of lifetime milk. Awards to be designated by the Jr. Holstein Programs Committee. Types of sampling approved are supervised DHI. Testing deadline is Dec. 31st, 2021. The awards will be given to registered and grade animals. All entries must be submitted to the MHA Office by the deadline of February 15th, 2022. All records will be subject to approval and verification by the Jr. Advisory Committee. Applicants must be current MJHA members. Please enclose a copy of both sides of individual cow page. Junior Holstein High Production Award This form is for the high milk, high fat, and high production production awards. Winners (305D or less actual records) in the 2-Year-Old, 3-Year-Old, 4-Year-Old and 5Year-Old and older classes will be recognized.

Minnesota Junior Holstein Progressive Breeders Registry Award REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be a current MJHA member. Animals must be BRED AND OWNED BY THE JUNIOR. Name must appear on papers as such. For partnerships animals, list the percentage ownership that the Junior has. Application must include ALL animals bred and owned that have freshened and are alive as of January 1 of the previous year (2021). Award to be based on the Junior's herd to consist of at least three or more milking animals. Only the last completed standardized 305D ME record will be considered. (The last completed 305D ME is computer designated and found at the end of the cow page, noting her 305D actual record and the most completed). The production qualification will be based on 10% over the MN DHIA average Holstein production for milk and evaluated on dollar value of product. This will be an average of all cows. A copy of both sides of the DHIA cow page will be required. The type of qualification must be 102% BAA from the last classification scores. This will be an average of all cows. A copy of the registration papers will be required (front sides only). Must have classified in one of the last two scheduled programs. MJHA Junior Star Award This award is given at the annual convention to honor juniors with outstanding involvement in the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association. THE DJM and YDJM PROGRAM DJM - Distinguished Junior Member The Distinguished Junior Member award recognizes 17-21 year olds who have excelled in preparing for their life's work, while contributing to their local and state Holstein activities. Established in 1922, this contest is the longest running Holstein youth program, and is the highest honor that can be given to a Junior Holstein member. There is no limit to the number of applications each state can send. Contestants prepare entry books summarizing their Junior Holstein activities and provide their views on current industry topics. Twelve semifinalists are chosen to attend the National Holstein Convention, where six Distinguished Junior Member finalists are selected. The top six DJMs receive an annual renewed adult membership with the Holstein Association USA, Inc. YDJM - Young Distinguished Junior Member Similar to the Distinguished Junior Member contest, the Young Distinguished Junior Member award recognizes 9-16 year olds for their accomplishments working with Holsteins, achievements and leadership in Holstein activities, as well as school and community involvement. The top individuals are honored at National Holstein Convention.

Run for the MJHA Board Are you looking to get more involved? Do you have a love for cows, especially the Holstein breed? Do you have a good work ethic? Older members have the exciting opportunity to run for the MJHA Board! If you would like to get more involved with the MJHA, the board is a great opportunity for you. The MJHA board consists of youth who are responsible and dedicated individuals that work together planning events throughout the year for junior members such as: clipping and fitting workshops, state show, lunch stands, Ag Olympics, and All-Breeds Convention. Serving on the board is fun, and it's a great way to develop lasting friendships with those who share the common interest - cows! If you run for the board, simply take the fill out an application at convention if you meet the criteria, you are than considered a board member candidate. You must be 16 years of age or older to apply. Candidates will be asked to give a brief introduction, stating why they would like to become a member of the MJHA board. Remember that you must be a paid member to run for the board! Please think hard before running for the board, this is not an easy task that takes great dedication and hard work. It is not a popularity contest nor is it just another board to be apart of. It requires time and effort to be successful. Elections will be held on the last day of convention, Sunday, March 20th during the annual business meeting. If you have any questions, contact the MJHA Baord or our MJHA Facebook page!

County Roll Call Get your creative minds together and start planning your club roll call! Saturday morning, each club is required to introduce themselves and prepare a very short skit, song, or anything they can think of to represent their club well.

National Holstein Convention 2022 JUNE 27th-JULY 1st, 2022 The 2022 convention will be hosted by us, the Minnesota Holstein Association and Minnesota Junior Holstein Association! It will be held in Sioux Falls, SD.

State Show This years Minnesota State Holstein Show will be held in Perham, Minnesota on June 13th-18th in 2022. More information will be sent out later, but be sure to check out the awesome opportunities that state show has for junior members throughout the state.
