Como Park Zoo & Conservatory

One of the last free zoos in the U.S., Como is home to a wide array of animals and plants and is open 365 days a year. Eastman Nature Center

International Owl Center

Here families can meet owls (and even see them fly), explore displays and a gift shop and attend special events and festivals throughout the year. International Wolf Center

Minnesota Zoo

View a wide variety of animals indoors and out, including penguins, bison, otters, tapirs, bears, birds, leopards, tigers, fruit bats and lemurs, plus many marine animals in the 1 million-gallon Discovery Bay exhibit, including sharks, rays, fish and more. More commonly known as the RAD Zoo, this rad destination in Owatonna features one of the world's largest reptile and amphibian displays, including snakes, turtles, lizards, crocodiles, toads, frogs and salamanders. Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium

The Raptor Center

This fine arts program, geared toward ages 7 to 17, focuses on the development of technical skills as well as the creative expansion of individual ideas in a studio environment. BlackStack

Located next door to the indoor amusement park and restaurant/bar this is Can Can Wonderland, this is one of the most spacious taprooms in the Twin Cities. But it’s also cozy with couches, comfortable chairs and collection of board games that make it feel more like a living room than a brewery. St. Paul • blackstackbrewing.com

Dual Citizen

The owners have small kids of their own, so children are always welcome in the open spaces of this lively taproom, which is home to a variety of visiting food trucks. On Sunday afternoons from noon to 2 p.m. — and all day on special days like Mother’s Day — the taproom and patio convert to play spaces for babies and kids of all ages, complete with scooters and exersaucers. Enki

Spaces for families abound here, including a large upper patio; a lower patio with games like oversized Jenga; and a spacious indoor taproom, painted a cheerful bright gold. One of the first female-owned breweries in Minnesota, this place calls itself a taproom, but it also boasts an in-house kitchen that opens at 11 a.m. every day, which makes it one of the few taprooms in town where you can grab a full lunch (including kid meals) — and a microbrew. All summer long Open Eye Figure Theater performs puppet shows in backyards, front yards, parks and driveways, bringing communities together with original, family-friendly theater. Saturday Live!

See something new every Saturday (magicians, puppets, wild animals, storytellers and more) at the George Latimer Central Library. Other St. Paul library locations also host numerous summer-reading programs and activities for all ages. Sundays at the Landmark

Trollhaugen Outdoor Recreation Area

Afton Alps

Caponi Art Park

View more than 30 works of art, scattered around 60 acres of rolling woodlands where many of the sculptures are built whimsically into the sides of the hills or tucked under ferns. Elm Creek Park Preserve

At 4,900 acres, this reserve is the largest park in the Three Rivers Park District and includes huge playgrounds, a swimming pond, trails and amenities for almost every outdoor activity, including a winter recreation area and Eastman Nature Center. Kerfoot Canopy Tour

Gale Woods Farm

Educational programs and camps for kids of all ages are central to this working organic farm on picturesque Whaletail Lake.
