ESCAPE TO THE EARLY SUMMER SUN

COMPLIMENTARY: Choir Performance at St. John’s Cathedral (Valletta, Malta) Rejoice in the rich splendour of an organ and choir performance at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, sure to dazzle you behind its simple facade. Known as one of Europe’s greatest examples of Baroque architecture—and home to the only signed painting of the master Caravaggio - the church was built in the late 1500’s by the Knights of Malta. The Knights evolved into a multi-national society on a par with nation-states, and developed orders based on language and origin, each honoured with a flamboyantly decorated chapel within the Cathedral complex.

Livorno, Italy

This early-summer voyage is packed with scenic
and cultural delights, plus plenty of late night stays for experiences most other cruise travellers miss: a sunset on the caldera of Santorini, dining on the plaza
in Sorrento, or a leisurely day of wine-tasting in Tuscany. Marvel at the Acropolis of Athens, the Renaissance riches of Malta’s Valletta, or soak up the sun on a pristine Corsican beach. With two days on the Amalfi Coast, there’s time to visit beautiful Ravello, Positano, Capri and much more. You’ll also have two leisurely days to explore Florence, medieval Lucca or the rolling landscapes of Tuscany.

Reimagine

See ornate limestone carvings of the life of St. John created in situ by artist and Knight, Mattia Preti, plus other ornate medieval art. Hear the powerful tones of the church’s organ during a concert by a 12-piece chamber choir with 4 soloists. Performing works composed by Mozart, Handel, Puccini and others, the organist and choir resound with the fervour of the Knights’ dedication to religion, art and conquest.

It won’t take you long to realise that what most people think of as Italian music, is actually Neapolitan. Listen to old favourites like Torna A Surriento and O Sole Mio before the operatic grandeur of melodramatic classics by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and others. After the concert, the shops of Amalfi are only a few steps away for independent exploration.
