LOOK BOOK

SPRING/SUMMER 2012

When Minx started eight (yes really!) years ago it was with the intention of bringing women cycle clothing that they really wanted to wear. Not fashion pieces you understand, but proper technical cycle clothing that gives you the same frisson of excitement getting dressed to go for a ride as you get when you’re getting ready for a party - just because it is so beautiful. It was harder to find kit that made the heart beat faster back then, but it did exist and Minx came about in order to deliver it up. The choice now is so much better - I would argue that there’s never been a better time to be a girl on a bike. It’s a world away from my early cycling life that meant barely being able to find a pair of shorts with a female-specific chamois, and wearing bloke-style shirts with elasticated hems that rode up over girl-shaped hips. But even with recent huge leaps forward, 2012 is something else. Who wouldn’t go weak at the knees in the face of mountain bike shorts with flowers growing up the legs and sleek road jerseys with dragons curling down the back or pom poms dancing up the front? Not to mention the contrast between dresses that work performance as hard as they look pretty and an edgy punk-styled tribute to the Olympics. We’ve come a long way baby and there are no rules. Now go ride your bike.

Minx would be the last person to advise extreme wedge action with her favourite clipless pedals, but really.... how fierce are those shoes? Answer: almost as fierce as the Nuu-Muu cycling dress. Worn here with lots of attitude and Terry Knickers.

The Terry Echelon Short is a longer length, especially cut to support muscles during long climbs. It’s a level of performance that makes Minx very slightly breathless with desire. As does this YMX Celtic Dragon jersey...

Full length zip jerseys and bib shorts with a zip-off lower half are the stuff of roadie cycling comfort dreams. Except you’re not in sleepy land, these are real. Terry Euro jersey worn with Gore bib shorts.

The award for most fabulous t-shirt goes to Maloja for ‘the best things in life are wild and free’. And remain upstanding because it also collects for the mountain bike short most likely to make you sing just for the joy of wearing it.

LONDON

calling The siren call of a generation, London Calling has such emotional resonance for Minx it hurts. So will she wear the deconstructed mesh tank designed as part of this limited edition collection that will commemorate the Olympics? You bet your lifestyle tattoo she will. And style it up with slouchy baggies layered over blue knicks, plus a Rooney Mara haircut. Tank: Terry, Shorts & Knicks: Maloja.

Riding with a baby bump has been distinctly unglam - until now. The unique talent that is Sheila Moon has launched a bike jersey so desireable it might just make you broody. Minx girls advocate pairing it with three-quarter length knicks that feature a flat waist and grip-free hems for maximum comfort Jersey: Sheila Moon, Knicks: Pearl Izumi

Minx is shameless about stealing from the boys. And with intended irony works this neat tweed softshell over skinny bike jeans for the ultimate girl-about- town look. Confirm the effortless cool by underpinning with a t-shirt that proclaims your inner Cyclista. Jackt: Surface, Jeans: Swrve, T-shirt: Terry.
