LONDON’S DANCE FLOOR FILLERS AKA

THE DJ’S!

Bars Clubs & Raving Crew Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Even Sunday!

London’s DJ’s are becoming the soundtrack to our much needed after work drinks with mates, Letting off some steam or just getting the whip cracking whilst cutting some serious moves on the dance floor! Call it what you want but these London DJ’s are clearly making the waves between the TV & Radio where the influence of the club scene is everything to an artist! Where the true testament of a great song becomes greater by the reload! Agreed!

Minx are talking with BEATNIK, Nadia Jae, Miguel Dare, Yazzus and Alexis Knox some of London’s DJ’s to find out whats really taking place in London's music scene.

What’s Been Happening, how are you, how is the music world treating you? Fabulous thank you! I'm work as a celebrity fashion stylist and I predominantly work with musicians, so things are going well for all my clients, for example Craig Davids got his second album coming out soon so I'm excited for that! I also DJ, at predominately fashion events and fashionable venues, & that's been super fun, with such a variety of events over the summer!

What have you been listening to? (Album, Artist Mixtape)? I'm really into Jacques Greene at the moment, I think because when I'm out I like to smash out the bangers, at home I like a more chilled fluid vibe.

What do you listen to when no-ones around? I listen to a lot of chill out and vibey stuff. I work from home with my team and it's great to have back ground music that's relaxing even when things are hectic and busy!

Who really set the trend for you? who influenced you to play the decks? where did it begin? All started in Soho at what is now the box. I hosted a night called Circus run by DJ Jodie Harsh and he gave me my first DJ gig! For which I'm still grateful! And I'm playing for him again this Friday at his night Dollar Baby!

Would you say the underground scene is responsible for setting trends or are they still in their own lanes? theres so much music that doesn’t make it into the mainstream its hard to say whats really good music and who is just really good marketing? (Which artists stand out for you?) Success isn't talent alone, and I'll never knock a half rate product that's marketed itself to success because that's still success. There's so many people who are scared to be seen as uncool that they don't push for airplay or commercial collaborations and personally that's a shame.

Who’s really dominating the uk market for you? Name your top five if you can? Or Who is hot on the radar? Pass! You know I don't really dwell in the specifics, I just gather as I go, dip in and dip out. I play so many genres I just makes sure that they are all bangers even if they are an old classic.

Who did you grow up listening to and what influence do they have on you and music today? I grew up listening to a lot of RnB and hip hop around 98-2004, I loved Ashanti, Eve,Aaliyah, Foxy.... all the strong females.

Who’s just got to much swag for you? Who embodies the whole entire package Male/ Female? Miguel Dare! He is often my DJ partner, we run Get Lit at Lights of Soho together and he has an amazing energy and charm. He looks gorgeous and has the personality to match. How important is it to you as a dj that an artist looks good, or has 20+ entourage and pops champagne very night? Is it been done or is it just over the top and bougjy? I feel the coolest person is the person who's truest to themselves and has no chip on their shoulder about it. Whether that's rolling large or sitting on the sofa watching Love Island all night, just do you and own it.

Where do you get you leads how do you stay current all the time, you must listen to music for hours! I don't tbh, I have amazing friends who are always sharing tracks with me, I'm always out with my Shazam to hand or my notes ready to grab the DJ and get a track name. Friends who are producers send me tracks and I always appreciate the recommended tracks on Spotify.

Why do you think they’re are so many more successful male artists to there to of women? Who’s taking it to the masses in your perspective? I disagree I think there's so much emphasis that men are the dominant and superior and the more successful and I think that's Bull. Yeah they might get paid more in certain careers and yes as women we've had and continue to the struggle. But I ain't about focusing on any thing that's missing. I live my life like being female isn't even in the equation of judgment for me. Your playing at a club and someone request a song? what do you get all the time and what do you refuse to play? I don't ever take requests, it's the did job to monitor the dance floor and the reactions of everyone. I don't play for myself and I don't play for individuals, I play for the collective energy. Which is you favourite era 70’s 80’s 90’s 00’s? 90s/early 00s as it's nostalgic for my youth. Whats the plans for the rest of the year, besides taking over the world? (Up and coming events you may want to promote, mixtape, etc). I always try and get away just to unravel, besides that loads of stuff coming up with Craig so watch out for the outrageous photos on Instagram! Fridays or Saturdays Fridays, so you spill the party into Saturday and still have Sunday to relax! Lunch or Dinner (Favourite Eat Outs)? Dinner, I love having no pressure to eat fast and really enjoy my food. That's one of the good things about working in Milan, Italians love to take their time over meal times! Spirit or Champagne (Cocktail Drink Of Choice)? Spirit! I always drink "Skinny Bitches", that's vodka, soda and fresh lime, it keeps you hydrated and if you spill it on your outfit there's no tears! Live Music / Clubs/ Bars /House Party? Clubby Bars are my favourite. It's a good mix of being able to socialise but have a good dance. Vinyl or CD? MP3 Fashion Or Music? Music is the rhythm of life.

Favourite Designer Or High Street?(Which One) Oooooooooooo neither, vintage and weird eBay finds. Shoes or Trainers? Thigh high killer heeled boots. Who did you last speak to today? My nail technician Eric. Who did you last email? Sony music. Who did you last say i love you to? My chihuahua Prince Knox Whats in your bag? (What do you never leave home without)? Money, Mirror,Mobile,Makeup & My'Keys Facials or Soap & Water ( Product Recommendations). A good old face scrubs, keep it easy. Healthy Eating or Junk Food? (Please name some) All food!!!! Life is about variety and balance! Your having a dinner party who do you invite???? Past or Present? Miguel Dare! Madonna Michael Jackson Paris Hilton Ummmmmmmm and more of my friends and family! Last question……Promise!!! You’ve got lots of celebrity friends and You need a favour! who’s on speed dial to save the day! Who do you call? The Beat’s No.1 DJ/Presenter Nadia Jae

What’s Been Happening, how are you, how is the music world treating you? Really well thanks I can't complain! Loving The New Movements, wanna share with the readers what’s been happening? I'm literally just a girl living her dreams. Very lucky to be making a living doing what I love.

What have you been listening to? Everything I have no choice! But Jay Z and SZA have my ears at the moment. What do you listen to when no-ones around? If no one is around I'm either on the phone, sleeping or watching TV! Do you think music in the Uk is in a good place? whats changed or evolved? A very good place. The scene is so healthy right now but it's mainly because artists have started supporting each other, that's one thing the American's did before us. It's great to see. What do you think has made the shift? Literally love and support in the scene from other artists. It makes fans excited when they see their fave artist collaborating and it strengthens the scene. Your Currently On Radio/Spinning In The Club/ Whats the most significant change in the dance floor anthems? who’s being consistent who do you want more of? To be honest it's music so it has to change with Club anthems are always the same as long as they they will work in the club. Consistency isn't necessary as someone could have one song that's a have multiple and none take off.

the times. are catchy always banger, or

Who really set the trend for you? who influenced you to play the decks? where did it begin? I always loved Melody Kane and Annie Mack but other than that I just followed my own calling to it. I never wanted to be a DJ originally. I started hearing songs I would mix into each other so that's where it began for me. Would you say the underground scene is responsible for setting trends or are they still in their own lanes? theres so much music that doesn’t make it into the mainstream its hard to say whats really good music and who is just really good marketing? (Which artists stand out for you?)

- Hey this question is really hard to answer and also so many people are doing well without management or any major backing and still getting played on radio doing there thing, there all talented within their own rights! Who’s really dominating the uk market for you? Name your top five if you can? Or Who is hot on the radar? J Hus, Stormzy, Stefflon Don, Not3s, MoStack, Mist, Giggs and Donaeo to name a few. Really like Mabel and Ray BLK too. Who did you grow up listening to and what influence do they have on you and music today? I listened to Lauryn Hill, TLC, SWV, Blackstreet and Usher. I loved Color Me Badd, Kylie Minogue and Janet Jackson. They are basically who I still listen to today. Where do you get you leads how do you stay current all the time, you must listen to music for hours! We get sent music by radio pluggers but also from the artists themselves, once your on radio and social media it's quite easy to stay up to date Your playing at a club and someone request a song? what do you get all the time and what do you refuse to play?

Bob Marley and Drake all the time! I refuse any country or dance/trance tracks. Who or What is influencing the CLUB/RADIO/TV/FASHION? Hard question, everyone and everything influences the club and radio. UK music and afro wave music is a hit.

Do you find the industry has made being a dj difficult in anyway? (Male/Female) is it any different now to when you first began? I've only been djing for a year and a half and tbh, it's a lot easier with technology and social media to promote

yourself. I think the scene is doing better now we have more female dj's.

Is there enough equality in the type of music that is played in the clubs or is it all the same? ( Do you always have to play a particular person sound or style)? No it's pretty open tbf Do you think the art of being dj has lost the class that the earlier pioneers of your time have brought to the table? It's never lost it's class but because of Technology it is a lot easier to learn to dj without understanding the origins of the art form. Music is so disposable now those waiting in the shops for records days have gone sadly. It also means learning is quicker and more accessible like anything. Whats the plans for the rest of the year, besides taking over the world?. Literally taking over the world, other than that no other plans. Fridays or Saturdays Saturdays Lunch or Dinner? Dinner Spirit or Champagne? Cocktail, virgin Mojito Live Music / Clubs/ Bars /House Party? Love live music Vinyl or CD? Vinyl, I love the crackling sound Old Skool or New Skool? Old Fashion Or Music? Music is fashion Favourite Designer Or High Street?

Between Adidas, Bershka and Louis V I'm good Shoes or Trainers? Trainers Who did you last speak to today? My mum. She just got a new job Who did you last email? Topshop Who did you last say i love you to? My son Whats in your bag? (What do you never leave home without)? My headphones, perfume and my charger Facials or Soap & Water. Facials Healthy Eating or Junk Food? Junk with a side of healthy. Need a balance. Your having a dinner party who do you invite???? Past or Present? MJ, Pharell, Diddy, Oprah,

and Trevor

Last question……Promise!!! You’ve got lots of celebrity friends and You need a favour! who’s on speed dial to save the day! Who do you call? The celeb I trust most. Has to be my mum.

I remember the first time meeting you! It was through rowdy at Birthdays in Dalston and thinking back you were just a cool dude with super blond hair playing some dope tunes! What's changed since? Oh wow! Long time! Thank you! Hair still blonde, tunes still dope! Lol Only thing that changed is perhaps me, I grew up a lot since then and also changed the scene a bit so I don't particularly Dj in dalston anymore! I loved it then at Birthdays tho. It was always super fun! Rowdy & I had so much in common back then and we used to like the same tunes which was dope! What's been happening? What's New? I've been Djing constantly, with no break for about 6 years now. Each gig I play is an amazing experience. My night Get Lit is monthly at Lights Of Soho which is great fun and I Dj with my best friend and very talented stylist Alexis Knox. Apart from that I'm Djing at lots of guest gigs round the town atm, like Soho House or Libertine. Who's your dance floor filler? Missy Elliott Whats Miguel currently listening to? Pixie Geldof, SYD, Solange & 6LACK What's your favourite latest album release? KENDRICK LEMAR 'DAMN' - so incredible! I have it on repeat since it came out! I buy my CDs, so I was very upset when the actual cd was delayed in Fopp, Covent Garden lol Who do you listen to when no-ones around? 90's!!! Especially the first two albums by ALL SAINTS it's so timeless & still sounds so current to me! I've met them last year and they were sooooo lovely! Their latest album 'Red Flag' is pretty amazing too! Who's one to watch? Connie Constance, Last Night In Paris, Rainy Milo, Bonkaz, Tadafi. Who's your crowd? What do you use as your No.1 grooming tool? I use polish cosmetics brand called ZIAJA I also like Dyptique & Tom Ford for Cologne! What/Who/Style/ do you wear fashion wise? My style is mostly just Leather Jacket, ribbed jeans top trainers! lol I love avant garden designers or a simple tailoring as well. When I dj I always like to some effort, not as much as I used to, as my style/ style changed but I still like to look good! Who's the last person you spoke to today? My friend Delilah Who did you last say I love you to? My Mum Insta: @Migueldare m.mixcloud.com/migueldare/aw17/

& high bit of put on life

What’s Been Happening, how are you, how is the music world treating you? I'm blessed, I'm Djing more regularly around east London, looking to get a radio show soon which will be a great platform for me to share my music taste and yeah I'm producing a lot more, working towards releasing an EP later this year What have you been listening to? New Vince Staples album is pretty cool production on that is sick, some stuff from DJ Svani and Trax Couture recently as well What do you listen to when no-ones around? Everything! I don’t have embarrassing songs or if I do, I aint afraid to play them with people

Do you think music in the Uk is in a good place? whats changed or evolved? Yeah, I feel like UK are proper pushing a unique sound in terms of the underground club scene. Grime is thriving at the minute but the instrumental game is also consistently developing and pushing new boundaries. London is a hub for all these unique sounds to come together whether it’s combining asian influences with latin drums etc. so yeah we’re challenging club movements at the minute What do you think has made the shift? Tbh the political shift and fuckery we have to deal with does affect creative outlets. The reason grime is important and going back to its original roots of the early 2000’s is due to what’s happening again, young people feeling angry and wanting a change. This is why I love the underground, we take emotions and turn it into real music.

Who or What is influencing the CLUB/RADIO/TV/FASHION?

Everything influences each other? like fashion and music and art will always affect each other, things like Instagram they are amazing platform for sharing these ideas for me Insta is so influential because of this.

Do you find the industry has made being a DJ difficult in anyway? Is it any different now to when you first began?

Not really, its all about who you know and connecting with the right kind of people that genuinely do care for music and would want to help you out. it's a very social industry so it's all about working out who’s who and also for you to come across as genuine as well. Is there enough equality in the type of music that is played in the clubs or is it all the same?

There’s a lot of equality in my scene anyway we play so many different genres from different countries and by both male and female producers, gay straight all sorts. It’s only in mainstream clubs you’ll notice the obvious music choices e.g hip hop all night house all night but that's the market/scene so it works for mainstream popularity. Do you think the art of being a DJ has lost the class that the earlier pioneers of your time have brought to the table? People do like to say that electronic controllers/technology have made it a lot easier in terms of scratching with vinyl. However Djing has always been about music selection and creating the right vibe. For me as well. I feel like as a dj we should be educating our audience with new music to listen to, not just to please. This is why I don’t take requests!!!! haha so regardless of what you’re using ultimately it's the song selection that will make you stand out from other djs in the market. Who really set the trend for you? who influenced you to play the decks? where did it begin? I didn't look up to anyone necessarily, but it was the encouragement from one of my closest friends in my halls at uni that really believed in me and was almost like why the fuck aren't you a DJ. I was also on Soundcloud a lot more at the time and I was discovering all this really eclectic mix of sounds, particularly Soulection, a record label based in LA, who did weekly radio shows. I listened to that and I was like whoah shit where have I been. So digging more and constantly discovering shit daily made me more confident to take up Djing. Would you say the underground scene is responsible for setting trends or are they still in their own lanes? There is so much music that doesn’t make it into the mainstream its hard to say whats really good music and who is just really good marketing? (Which artists stand out for you?) the underground to me will always dominate and strive in our own little sweaty basement clubs. We’re always experimenting, trying new things, giving more people opportunities to shine. Who did you grow up listening to and what influence do they have on you and music today?

Tbh my music growing up was literally the noughties pop wave and r&b like old school Destinys Child (fucking looooooved the survivor album). Also Pharrel/Neptunes production and Timbaland. Listening to the latter really made me admire music production and I wish I could've just started out young. I’ve always liked music with an intricate/ interesting drum pattern so I was naturally more inclined to start then listening to early dubstep/grime/even like electro house when I was around 12/13. Who’s just got to much swag for you? Who embodies the whole entire package Male/Female? How important is it to you as a DJ that an artist looks good, or has 20+ entourage and pops champagne very night? Is it been done or is it just over the top and boujee? it’s very very OTT that whole entourage thing, but for some people that’s how they get by. For me I like my squad around me playing, but that’s my genuine friends not just randoms or security whatever. I love the night slugs crew they’re like a proper tight unit and they alway turn up together. Where do you get your leads? How do you stay current all the time, you must listen to music for hours! I love listening to music. Like every moment of the day if I could I would have at least some music in the background. The amazing thing about soundcloud is that it’s a breeding ground for new music 24 hours a day, so I go on that like its Facebook! Also me and my DJ friends like to go through each others ITunes and have a lil peep through, which is cool about music its all about sharing your finds! It’s my favourite thing in the world to hear new music honestly Why do you think they’re are so many more successful male artists to there to that of women? Who’s taking it to the masses in your perspective? I mean theres still a big gender divide in the mainstream, however in the underground there’s definitely a lot more female djs which is great. Producers still lack however and that could be due to the fear of technological knowledge, lack of support system in comparison to what the male

collectives have, and the ongoing stereotypical teachings that women should only do certain jobs etc. It’s a long ongoing thing to change teaching of our children and the next generation that you can do anything and you shouldn’t feel incapable of any job because of your gender. Your playing at a club and someone request a song? what's the most requested song and what do you refuse to play?

I don’t take requests

Which is you favourite era 70’s 80’s 90’s 00’s? 90’s and 00’s for the fashion and music haha Whats the plans?, besides taking over the world? I have a gig at Load of gigs coming up! cool nights for coooool people! And just to continue my EP hopefully get it mastered. Check out my instagram for updates.

Lunch or Dinner? Lunch, favourite food is thai, especially Busaba ethai yesss Spirit or Champagne? Spirit like rum and pineapple juice, or vodka/blackcurrent/ lemonade doubles obviously Live Music / Clubs/ Bars /House Party? Club and then after party at someones house haha Vinyl or CD? CD Old Skool or New Skool? New Skool Fashion Or Music? can't have one without the other Favourite Designer Or High Street?

Vetements. Shoes or Trainers? trainers Who did you last speak to today? My flatmate. Who did you last email? A booking agency from France Who did you last say i love you to? My sister. Whats in your bag? (What do you never leave home without)? Headphones. Facials or Soap & Water Just a simple face wash from Garnier will do the trick. Healthy Eating or Junk Food? Junk food unfortunately like meat mission, Byron, GBK (all on Deliveroo btw) Instagram: @Yazzus You can also catch Yazzus on Radar Radio @Radarradioldn

BARIQ COBBS THE ARTIST DESIGNER hippopart.wix.com/bariq

Entrepreneur and successful artist, Bariq Cobbs, has seemingly been holding a paintbrush in his hand as far back as he can remember. At a young age, his mother recognized his gift, enrolling him in art classes in Philadelphia. He perfected his craft by sketching any and everything that moved him, finding himself gravitating towards comic book silhouettes and Japanese animation. Later, mastering the art of graffiti, Cobbs began making hand-painted, African-inspired shirts, which

quickly garnered recognition and praise from various celebrities. After attending the University of the Arts, where he majored in animation and film, Bariq left his artistic impression on apparel companies he cofounded; Tribe Vibe and Funky Roots, which were both popular urban brands in the late 80's and early 90's. As co-founder and head designer of Miskeen Originals, his innate talent and strong sense of composition sparked trends that have been imitated throughout the market place to this day. In 2004, Bariq co-founded Meezan ArtCouture, an upscale urban menswear brand. As Art Director, Bariq spearheaded the company’s creative concepts, which were translated into original designs and sold on the market. Artists like Jean Basquiat, Jacob Lawrence, and Andy Warhol were a part of the vast, inspirational, creative sources he utilized when creating new, artistically rich, one-of-akind pieces for Meezan. The company quickly became a lifestyle brand of choice, and was sold in various specialty and department stores nationwide. Celebrities, such as Usher and Busta Rhymes, proudly wore the brand in videos, magazines, and industry events. Most recently, Bariq painted movie sets for the Nick Cannon directed film School Dance, and has been featured as part of the The Unflinching Eye: Works of the Tiberino Family Circle, on display at the African American Museum in Philadelphia from September 27, 2013 to March 30, 2014. He has collaborated numerous times with footwear company Project Canvas, contributing hand crafted sneaker designs for a Project Canvas Auction held at the Opera Gallery, and as a Project Canvas featured artist during Project NYC 2013, an annual fashion event showcasing menswear.

BLACKFISHCOLLECTIVE.COM @BLACKFISHCOLLECTIVE

Hi Guys! how are you?

MINX readers want to know who and what is Black Fish Collective? Introduce yourselves! What brought you together and how long have you been together? Tell us a little something about yourselves? What brought us together was a love for music, family and integrating different mediums of art. So far as friends we’ve known each other 8+ years. Blackfish Collective was launched in January of this year.

I was walking through the Auditorium at AFROPUNK when I heard you guys! I had to come see what the noise was about!!! You guys were definitely fresh for one! So your sound is Punk/ Hip-Hop? How did you find Night? Have you come down off your high!? Glad you liked what you heard! We like to rumble anywhere we enter sonically. The night was amazing for us, It was such an honour to be present in the AFROPUNK space with our peers. We will be basking in that after-glow for a while haha. Well deserved!! Zobo! Wow! What a track! That made me hype man! I was loving the energy from start to finish you guys looked and sounded amazing! Do you always perform that track it had the crowd on there toes When is the album coming? We won based on that song ZOBO so it was only right we played it! In terms of new releases I can’t say too much for now but watch this space! You Won the AfroPunk London Battle Of The Bands! What was that like? And off the back of winning you guys will be performing at the roundhouse too?, will that be just you or the other bands that won from different heats around the world!? ( We can not comment on that gig in particular right now) Damn can’t wait! So you guys are not all from London? Where about in London are you from and who's from out of town? Where do you reign from? None of us are from London but we live here for the moment, We are a beautiful mix of humans. Dublin is where we all have been situated for most of our lives

So When do you guys get together? Who does most of the singing and writing / you all have different roles right? Producers, designers an all-round creative hub buzzing with excitement.

It depends on what mood we are feeling! Square - Head + BRIGGZ GOD are currently working on some garments.

It must be the perfect setting to stimulate the music? what do you write about? Were you all solo artists before you came together what was the set up? We write pretty much about anything we want depending on the track, Everyone in the collective have their own solo projects from the band, The Notas, BRIGGZ GOD to Square Head and Caleb Kunle who won NME’s emerging artist. What do you all listen to individually? Are you influenced by anyone, Primarily is your sound original to you? Individually everyone’s music taste varies and can be quite eclectic from artists like Fela and Femi Kuti, Jamie XX, Travis Scott, Kanye West, Death grips, and as you probably noticed from our set at AFROPUNK we have created a very unique sound that can’t really be boxed in.

Where do you think we stand as country in regards to music and its diversity? In the Uk it has come quite a long way, just a look at this years mercury prize nominees pretty much says it all. J-HUS Common Sense, Stormzy - Gang Signs & Prayer The U.K is finally gaining its own sound in Hip-Hop Grime & Alternative Music! What do you prefer musically when you like an artist? is it about the lyrics, production video? In the Uk the likes of, Hudson Mohawke, King Krule, Skepta and in the US Goldlink, SZA, Travis Scott to name a few Yeah, They’ve all really let the music speak for them and the image somewhat magnified through the music really setting the bar for music artistry in the UK to travel over seas Europe America and Asia. How important is image to you? Image is quite important especially in this day and age, but most important to us is getting the sonics down to perfection. Who’s cutting edge in terms of fashion?

I heard primark are killing it right now think )

( this is a joke i

Very Funny! Lol I shop everywhere i love bargains and odd finds!

Whats the plans for the rest of the year? Where do you see yourselves in five years? Rest of the year we have some great single’s to drop and some crazy video ideas people need to watch out for! Were also gonna be in the studio a lot coming into the new year and members of the collective would be putting out some solo material, so keep your eyes peeled. In 5 years pretty much doing what we're doing right now but on a larger scale. Were doing a lot more that we can't really give away right now but it's gonna be big.

If you could have a producer produce your album as a collective who would it be? Again everyone’s opinion’s probably different, but Blackfish collective produced by either Hudson Mohawke or Rick Rubin would be pretty crazy. That would be a great sound! When will you be performing next MINX can get involved? No Sure, We’ll let you know but Caleb Kunle has been busy creating some new visuals for his latest project EDEN look out for that.

ALORA'S SOUND

Raised in the East side of that London apart of a family of seven - mum; dad and four sisters, Alora set out to begin her journey as a recording artist. She has always been seen as the creative sibling, confident and free spirited with a wild heart and a contagious smile. Alora saw just how influential she was during her time at University she had been studying BA 3D Design at Loughborough but could tell her heart belonged to something much deeper. Alora discovered her passion for theatre and took up acting as an outlet whilst she studied; she played vigorous roles in many productions and even went on to performing at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2015. About halfway through university where she shared a house with her close friends she encountered many experiences that opened different doors to exciting paths; one of them being music. Alora released her first project titled ‘Second Decade’ on May 2nd 2017 which is a collective of her experiences and ideas in musical form. Since then she has released 2 music videos from ‘Second Decade’ which in total has 11,000 views. Alora is a natural born performer and has since go one to perform on many stages; her biggest capacity being 1600 at the Hackney Empire where she performed her song ‘Back and Forth’ (from ‘Second Decade’) for the Black Magic awards (which acknowledges talents within the creative industry of African/Caribbean heritage). Her style is very Afro centric and she embeds a lot of gracefulness in her music. When you watch Alora the first 3 words that come to mind is “She has soul.”

Hi Alora! We love your music! thanks for talking with us! Please tell me who you are and where you grew up, what Inspired you into the world of music?

Thank you for having the time to talk to me first and foremost. I am a small town girl raised In East London in the Newham borough, I am a Leo so I am naturally brave and humble and unapolegetic. Music started for me at a young age when I use to write my own jingles for fun to perform to my sisters and friends. I use to want to be a fashion designer when I was around 7 onwards, I called it Swish and had my own book of chic designs accompanied by a clothing line theme song which me and my sister still giggle and recite to this day.

Your sound is flavoursome

raspy on the vocals and smooth on your raps! you

got it going on! Your a breathe of fresh air?! how long have you been rapping? I use to rap all the lyrics to lil Wayne; Young Joc; Bow wow you name it anytime a rap song came on Id always recite it. It was an adrenaline rush for me and If I could get all the lyrics on point that was an accomplishment in itself. Which btw is not as easily with all the different flows out there lol. I am a rap Junkie.

Is music in the family or is it just you? I don’t know if my mum had a late cousin or an uncle who did music but so far its just me that I am aware of. Music got me!

What change if there has been any?! I would say the exposure really. The crowds get bigger and people are interested In the next steps, before no one really knew what I was capable of until Uni, It was always my little secret.

The mixtape was really dope I almost wanted there to be another song to listen to! but it packed there was something for everyone? Yeah I really enjoy listening to the Second decade, Its like a movie plays in your head when you listen to it. Funny enough It was an exhale project for me; Its was me saying Yes to music but before I do let me get this off my chest first.
