President’s Viewpoint Dear Members, It is now close to a year that we moved into our new premises in Paola. We are all the time striving to improve our facilities in order to enrich the experience of our members. It has been a hard, but satisfying year, and we have now settled in. Again, for the benefit of our members and visitors as well as to safeguard our investment, we carried out a Health and Safety assessment and upgrading all the needs facilities necessary and required by law to make our venue safer. We are also in the process of installing some new made to measure furniture in the committee room so that this too will be ready and available for use. I wanted to take the opportunity to remind members of various other extra benefits they have from membership. Our members’ handbook lists them all, but it is important that, from time to time, to remind you of them: 1. Exhibition Frames: we have a set of frames that are available on request by members for any exhibition projects they might have. Subject to availability, these are loaned free of charge. 2. Gallery space: we have recently installed facilities for exhibiting photographs at the premises. The first one-man exhibition, by Tonio Polidano, is already up and showing and we invite other members to come forward and exhibit their work. All that will entail is to print 10 – 12 photographs; the space and the frames are available for free. 3. Lighting Kit/s: we have available for hire two electronic lighting kits – one donated by Photoimages Ltd and the other by ILabPhoto Ltd. Both sets, which are used during MIPP workshops, are also available for rental at a nominal charge. 4. Mentoring: Various schemes on mentoring of members’ work are available. All info is viewable on the MIPP website. 5. Free WI-Fi has been installed on the premises. I look forward to seeing you at our events and meetings and encourage you to exploit the above benefits offered to you as a member of MIPP. Kevin Casha President MIPP

To all my friends at M.I.P.P. I am returning to the UK to live by then end of July 2018. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the very warm welcome I received when I joined the M.I.P.P. and wish you all the very best on your future photography journey. My photography grew while I was with you, from all the comments and suggestions I received on my own images and looking at yours as well, I intend to continue following your endeavors on the M.I.P.P wall for many years to come. As my photographic journey continues, I will be posting my images for you all to see and comment on. I will have a lot of new subjects to capture from motorboat racing, wild life, riversides, yachting, beach and windmills along the banks of the canals. As you can tell I am going to a very pretty area of the UK called Norfolk on the east coast. While my wife was in the UK recently she carried out the house hunting and has found a very good 3 bedroom house, but it has had a conversion done on the garage making it into a studio that I am going to use for all my photographic needs. All the best and bye for now. Regards Roger Chessell

The European Capitals of Culture initiative was developed in 1985 and is designed to celebrate the richness of European cultures, while breathing new life into the cities. Furthermore, the Epson PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead, allowed Intervisions to create in-house, high quality, Giclee prints up to 6m!

The programme consists of projects developed with various local and international communities. One of these events, the “European Eyes on Japan” visual arts project, led by artistic director Mikiko Kikuta, European Eyes on Japan has toured over thirty European Capitals of Culture since 1999. For 2018, M. Kikuta worked together with the photographers Alexandra Pace (Valletta) and Alice Wielinga (Leeuwarden-Fryslan) to capture Japan’s lifestyle through a European lens. The work of both artists will be hosted in Valletta, Leeuwarden and Japan

in large format printing was chosen to print the photos of the exhibition. The task proved to be demanding, due to the vivid colors and the large size of the artworks but Intervisions rose up to the occasion and using Epson’s newest SureColor P series printer and their expertise, was able to deliver the impressive end result, in no time. How did they do that? SC-P20000 is equipped with new, high-precision media feed stabiliser, which translates to no interruptions to the workflow, while the 10-colour UltraChrome Pro ink set, provided realistic and accurate color reproduction and deeper blacks, that really let visitors of the exhibitions have a lifelike view of Japan.

THE MIPP SPONSORS Non-Profit organizations like the Malta Institute of Professional Photography are constantly in need of funds in order to be able to function in a modern and professional manner. That is why it is important to have various sponsors interested in networking with the MIPP and at the same time involving them in important issues concerning the photographic trade. The MIPP feels it is vital to stimulate joint events and initiatives together with our sponsors. This policy helps our members to be constantly aware of products and services that our sponsors market thus not only encouraging an increase in business but also benefitting our members through special occasional offers and deals. This co-operation and belief by our sponsors, most of who have been with us since the MIPP’s inception, has helped in no small way in making the Institute what it is today. It is one of the MIPP’s main objectives to help to keep this co-operation improving. We urge our members to truly support our sponsors by making use of their services and products whenever possible. The main sponsors of MIPP are AVANTECH (CANON); ILAB Photo and INTERVISIONS (PHOTO INK). Our sponsors show faith in the MIPP so it is only fair that our members should reciprocate. Give your custom to the companies and entities who help us.
