President’s Viewpoint As you all know, it has been a very busy year for MIPP. With the new premises now fully functional, the amount of workshops, sessions, courses and events have increased substantially. Members’ attendance and response has overall been encouraging and various meetings have been packed. I feel that we are now further enjoying the fruit of years of hard work. Time flies and World Photography Day, celebrated worldwide on the 19 August, will very soon be with us. This time we will be celebrating it in Paola. Tonio Polidano will be taking you through his journey during the MIPP Still Image Award accredited course and afterwards we invite you to remain with us for an informal drink and socializing. I feel these networking events are vital for photographers to meet and discuss photography in all its fascinating facets. On a different tack, we have started building a little library on photography at the MIPP. The books we have are at the disposal of members and can be viewed whilst at the premises. As yet we have too few to lend out but possibly this will be done in the near future, as our collection grows. Should you have any books that you would like to pass on to us for this purposes, it will be appreciated. We will soon be having a list of the books available. We have already received a number of books from members and and I myself have presented a copy of my History of Maltese Photography as well as the first book I had produced – Reflections on Life – to the library. Guido Bonett has also presented two of his books on nature and the APS Bank has given us the full book trilogy of their recent photographic projects. I look forward to seeing this grow. COMMENTS
Hi Kevin I returned home after this morning’s “Techniques in practise” workshop at Vittoriosa with so much, I did not know from where to start. So, I set my priorities list and the 1st thing is this: A big THANK YOU note to you, Kevin ... Thanks you so much. You are the best. Regards /\/\ario
Dear Kevin, Thank you for your words of appreciation in this issue of the MIPP newsletter. It is definitely not an easy task to express one s vision and encompass all the qualities you mention. Personally, my motivation and inspiration is beauty for I believe that beauty generates affection and it s best to influence people through affection then through any other emotion. “The idea of beauty was always about how much human beings valued their own humanity about how beauty stood in for the optimism that everything could, eventually, be beautiful, or Good. But since (nowadays) we see the human world as an ugly place, beauty no longer matters in art. It should but it doesn t. Sincere thanks to APS Bank for presenting the MIPP library with the trilogy of books that I have been curator of. Vanishing Malta; The Benefits of Art & Diversity are now available at our Paola premises for our members. The books were part of three projects aimed at creating awareness on important issues in our Society. We are slowly building up a library so any photography book donations will be appreciated.

Nature Exhibition by Guido Bonett MIPP member Guido Bonett recently staged a one-man exhibition of Nature Photography at the National Museum of Natural History in Mdina. The theme for the exhibition was local wildlife teamed with the wildlife of the Choco rain forest of Ecuador, both of which need protection. The set of images from Ecuador had previously constituted a panel of 20 images which gained Guido the Fellowship of the Malta Institute of Professional Photography. The local images were mostly made up of Guido’s previous successful Associate panel with the MIPP.

THE MIPP SPONSORS Non-Profit organizations like the Malta Institute of Professional Photography are constantly in need of funds in order to be able to function in a modern and professional environment. That is why it is important to have various sponsors interested in networking with the MIPP and at the same time involving them in important issues concerning the photographic trade. The MIPP feels it is vital to stimulate joint events and initiatives together with our sponsors. This policy helps our members to be constantly aware of products and services that our sponsors market thus not only encouraging an increase in business but also benefitting our members through special occasional offers and deals. This co-operation and belief by our sponsors, most of who have been with us since the MIPP’s inception, has helped in no small way in making the Institute what it is today. It is one of the MIPP’s main objectives to help keep this co-operation improving. We urge our members to truly support our sponsors by making use of their services and products whenever possible. The main sponsors of MIPP are AVANTECH (CANON); ILAB Photo and INTERVISIONS (PHOTO INK). Our sponsors show faith in the MIPP so it is only fair that our members should reciprocate. Give your custom to the companies and entities who help us.
