1.Introduction Sea transportation has some strong advantages compared to other means of transportation, specially when they have to do national journeys between the peninsula and the isles. However, there are some disadvantages that makes it difficult to use as a way of tansportation, such as the port infrastructure, the dockers strikes, the costs and the low speed.That may be the reason why companies prefer to use sometimes air tansportation. Nevertheless, it is important to mention the advantages and disadvantages of sea transportation to have wider knowledge.
2.Advantages of the sea transportation The advantages of the sea transportation are the following: 1. Storage capacity 2. Competitive carriages 3. Weather stability 4. Flexibility of transpotable goods
3.Disadvantages of the sea transportation The disadvantages of the sea transportation are the following: 1. The difficult accessibility to some ports 2. The journey frequency 3. The low speed. 4. Longer delivery times. It takes longer to deliver goods.
Other disavantages: -Longer lead/delivery times -Bad weather -Difficult to monitor exact location of goods in transit -Customs and Excise restrictions -Could be costly
4.Conclusion
Firstly, its cost advantages, it is a cheap way to ship merchandise compared to other, for example land and air transportation. Secondly, it is a safe transport because the merchandise are closed container units and there is a high security in the ports. Another important advantage is the flexibility in size and type of goods, there is no restriction, they can be large or of any type. It is also an advantage that sea transportation is a reliable transport, shipping is not delayed by traffic or weather conditions. Finally, one important advantage is that sea transportation is environmental friendly because it emits very low per transported unit.
