Landfall.
Defined as an arrival or a collapse, but perhaps it’s both: the collapse of self and place at the moment of arrival into one thing: a current of anticipation.
Perhaps this is the most fitting way to describe the wave The Misadventures Team is riding today as we prepare to send off “The Landfall Issue” (Summer 2018) to the printer.
Through the exquisite writing and photography of our incredible tribe of contributors, we have paddled from island to island in the Pacific Northwest, stood in awe of the monarch migration in Mexico, run alongside advocates at Bears Ears and Grand-Escalante-Staircase National Monuments, and caught a glimpse of precious land after weeks at sea.
We’ve prepared bibimbap in a Dutch oven, pored over Japanese sunscreen, trekked with female guides on the Inca Trail, heard how it feels to hunt as an African American woman, and got a sweet tour of an adorable houseboat named Bertha. And there’s a whole lot more.
