1. SINCE 2017 THE ENTIRE TRIVENETO PINOT GRIGIO PRODUCTION WILL BE DOC. AN INCREDIBLE HISTORY STARTED AT THE END OF 1800… R: starting with 2017 grape harvest, the entire Pinot grigio production from Trentino, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia area will be certified with the Controlled Appellation of Origin (DOC). On this entire area, IGT specifications will not allow to produce any Pinot grigio both pureness or blended with other vines. 2017 represents the starting point of new production rules of Pinot grigio wines, totally DOC that will represent historical and traditional values from an area extremely vocated and linked with this vine since the end of 1800.
2. TRACEABILITY AND ITALIAN GOVERNMENTS SEAL ON ANY SINGLE BOTTLE: A STRATEGIC TARGET TO ENHANCE AND PROMOTE PINOT GRIGIO FROM TRIVENETO R: thanks to the new DOC delle Venezie, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino viticultural chains activated a virtuous total reorganization initiative relatively to the production and designation of Pinot grigio. A strategic target to ensure – according to the Italian DOC traceability system – the final consumer and the entire production chain (from the winegrowers to global bottlers and sellers). The Italian Government seal represents the symbol of this reorganization and will be placed on any single Pinot grigio delle Venezie DOC bottle. An important choice of rigor and traceability that ensures quality and aims the adoption of challenging and virtuous specifications of production.

3. WHAT ABOUT PINOT GRIGIO PRODUCED IN 2016 AND EARLIES HARVESTS? R: bulk IGT Pinot grigio currently stocked can be sold if bottled before 31 July 2018.
4. HOW WILL DOC DELLE VENEZIE CHANGE PINOT GRIGIO QUALITY? R: according to DOC delle Venezie recognition, Pinot grigio quality offer has been strongly upgraded. The new Consortium hardly worked on vineyards and production processes renewing: the new specifications reduced both grape yeld per hectar (19 to 18 tons) and yeld of grape/wine (80 to 70%) allowing a maximum production of 126 hectoliters per hectar. DOC delle Venezie Pinot grigio Organoleptic characteristics have been precisely defined: these features will be valued by professional tasting commissions organzied by “Triveneta Certificazioni” (sections 9 to 16) that will certify the quality of the product allowing the Italian Government seal on every single bottle produced.

6. HOW WILL PINOT GRIGIO PLANTS GROW IN 2018? R: According to Consortium’s forecasts, based on vine plants marketing, in 2017 the Italian Pinot grigio surface area, claimable from 2018 harvest, growed up to 31.600 hectars while delle Venezie reached 26.200 hectares representing 83% of the entire Italian potential.

8. WHICH IS “DELLE VENEZIE” DOC AREA BOTTLE-PRODUCTION POTENTIAL? R: global potential production volumes in “Triveneto” area (DOC delle Venezie + historical existing producing Pinot grigio DOC) now reaches approximately 250 million bottles. This amount will grow according to 2017-2018 vineyard expansion.
9. WHICH ORGANIZATION WILL CONTROL AND CERTIFY PRODUCTION PROCESSES OF “DELLE VENEZIE” PINOT GRIGIO?

R: “Triveneta Certificazioni” is the new Control body entirely dedicated to delle Venezie wines. This organization is able to express great-structured expertises and knowledges at the top level in Italy nowadays.
10. WILL “TRIVENETA CERTIFICAZIONE” BE ABLE TO OPERATE EFFICIENTLY ANSWERING OPERATORS DEMANDS? R: yes. “Triveneta Certificazioni” is the result of a connection between the main historical certification bodies operating on the Italian territory. Triveneta will be able to trace each Pinot grigio producer’s production processes systematically, carrying out the prescribed inspections efficiently. Triveneta will finally issue the appropriate certificate for the suitability of the product to become DOC (subsequently bottled) after having completed physcal/chemical examinations and having submitted the wine to the tasting-commissions examination within five days from the stock’s sample picking date ready to be bottled. R: “delle Venezie” DOC Pinot grigio wines can only be introduced to consumption in glass bottle (maximum capacity 6 liter) “atin” or screw caps closed. 2 to 6 liters bag-in-boxes are allowed while for sparkling versions it is possible to use bottle in volumes up to 18 liters. Pinot grigio DOC “delle Venezie” must be bottled and each package has to exhibit the Italian State Government seal as a guarantee of the verified and certificated productive process by “Triveneta Certificazioni”
12. DOES THE ITALIAN GOVERNMENT SEAL (IN ITALIAN “FASCETTA”) HAVE TO BE USED EVEN ON BAG-IN-BOXES? R: yes. National dispositions and “delle Venezie” production specifications establish that the government seal must be applied on any kind of package, bag-in-box included, in a way that prevents any re-use.
13. IS THERE ANY LIMITATION IN BOTTLING “DELLE VENEZIE” PINOT GRIGIO? R: No! “Delle Venezie” DOC Pinot grigio can be bottled in Italy as abroad. Outside production area bottling can be realized if previously certified by “Triveneta Certificazioni”.

14. WHAT ABOUT FOREIGN BOTTLERS? R: to bottle “delle Venezie” DOC Pinot grigio, the following conditions must be met: A. bulk wines sent to be bottled have to respect what specificated in the Control plan-sheet n.2 winemakers then respecting the physical-chemical eligibility realased following Italian Ministerial procedures through “Triveneta Certificazioni”; B. winemakers/exporters pay for the Italian Government seals that “Triveneta Certificazioni” will be sent to the bottler in relation to the volumes shipped; C. issuing the winemaker/exporter’s shipping document (Control plan-sheet n.2 winemakers) “Triveneta Certificazioni” will register the receiver-bottler name that will be automatically registered to the control system; D. after bottling, the importer will officially announce the number of bottles/pieces produced and the resulting number of Italian Government Seals used to “Triveneta Certificazioni” following the special document available on www.triveneta.wine (as described in “Control Plan-bottler sheet n.1) E. importer/bottler is subject to documentary/analytical inspection/verification activities as any Italian bottler
15. IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE TRACEABILITY SYSTEM? R: No! “delle Venezie” DOC Control Plan expressly provides the Italian Government Seal use as the DOC Consortium cares about having the maximum guarantee for this wine: Pinot grigio, besides the oenological quality, is representative of cultural and environmental values of the Triveneto production area and the international operators identify “delle Venezie” as the maximum qualitative expression area of the Italian Pinot grigio.
16. HOW DO “TRIVENETA CERTIFICAZIONI” TASTING COMMISSIONS WILL VALUE PINOT GRIGIO? R: “delle Venezie” DOC Consortium, in collaboration with Italian Oenologist Association, has organized special programs to improve the knowledge of Pinot grigio wines produced in the different areas of triveneto in order to evaluate the organoleptic profiles. The synthesis of this work will be used to train Triveneta Certificazioni” tasting commissions recognizing and appreceating different subareas-shades and, therefore, ensure that all bottles marked by DOC “delle Venezie” maintain high standard of quality.

17. WHAT DOES EXPORT REPRESENT AND WHICH ARE THE MAIN TRADES FOR THE NEW DOC “DELLE VENEZIE” PINOT GRIGIO? R: export represents the great strenght of Triveneto Pinot grigio: productive capacity and great success are confirmed by export data: 96% of the entire triveneto Pinot grigio production is exported in the main global trades. Pinot grigio, but mainly “Pinot grigio DOC delle Venezie”, is the most exported single variety-based wine exported in main trades as north-America (42%), UK (27%) and Germany (10%).
