BIDA program enlightens learners on using illegal drugs
by Peter Ramas
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan (BIDA)” program on December 7, 2023 to provide knowledge to students on how dangerous these chemical substances are.
The program “Region 10 BIDA Ka: Program Launching and Information Drive,” its purpose is to gather all senior high school students from Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) and Xavier University to understand further the illegal drugs that are being abused in the Philippines, which have dangerous side effects.

Strong quake in Japan leaves 62 casualties
by Peter Ramas
SUZU, Japan- 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Western Japan, ceases at least 62 citizens as rescue workers fought to save those feared trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
Aftershocks continued to shake Ishikawa prefecture and some areas after a strong earthquake hit the area.
In certain places, there were still no cell phone service, no power, and no water and residents grieved their uncertain futures.
As per the Ishikawa Prefectural authorities, Wajima city recorded 29 deaths, while Suzu recorded 22 deaths.
In addition, numerous people, including those in neighboring
prefectures, have suffered severe injuries.
Miki Kobayashi, an Ishikawa resident, said as she swept around her house,"It’s not just that it’s a mess. The wall has collapsed, and you can see through to the next room. I don’t think we can live here anymore."
According to Toshitaka Katada, a University of Tokyo professor specializing in disasters, the area had been hit by a strong earthquake in recent years, which caused the people to be prepared by planning their evacuation and keeping emergency supplies in stock.
There are probably no people on Earth who are as disaster-ready as the Japanese,” he told The Associated Press.
MOGCHS’ school publications connect as one
by Peter Ramas, Treisha Tamse
Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School officially united its two publications, Ang Gintong Bagwis (AGB) and MisOr Torch (MOT), in which it gave birth to a new organization named “MOGCHS: Valour of the Press” (MVP) on November 15, 2023.
To improve the journalistic skills of the aspiring journalists, SPJ classes from grades 7 to 10 at Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School met their coaches in both English and Filipino publications on September 27, 2023. With the program “Panaghiusa”, it gathered student journalists from different grade levels inside the MOGCHS to learn critically from these issues that are revolving in the community. It also teaches how to write and report effectively with the right structure and reliable sources that can be identi fi ed as newsworthy.
According to Ms. Vidal, School Paper Adviser of MisOr Torch publication, the assembly promotes legal activities, celebrates the power of journalism, acknowledges the hard work of dedicated student journalists, and strengthens ethical values in responsible journalism and freedom of the press.
Press freedom is relevant because it safeguards the public’s right to know and ensures that those in power can be accountable for their actions. In an era of rapid information fl ow and press freedom is vital to protect the integrity of news and maintain the
open exchange of ideas in society. Its name was constructed with input from all grade levels who attended on November 15, 2023, with the guidance of Mrs. Estella Galve (SPJ Coordinator), Mrs. Malyn Vidal (School Paper Adviser, MOT), and Mrs. Aubrey Tagapulot (School Paper Adviser, AGB). Originally intended as “MOGCHS: Pioneer of the Press” (MPP), the name was later changed to “MOGCHS: Valour of the Press” (MVP) to highlight the school’s identity as the "Home of the Champions,” re fl ecting the journalism program’s ambition to
secure both trophies and championship titles.
According to the president, this move was Champions, driven not by con fl icts but by changes and factors such as learning gaps, necessitating a balanced focus on the growth and development of each member through this organizational unity. This move has been a great help. Furthermore, this unity is the start of a great partnership between the two publications (MisOr Torch and Ang Gintong Bagwis) hoping to bring home awards in the coming press conferences.
“The DOH complained about the layout,” A cafeteria vendor states during an exclusive interview with MisOr Torch. “Apparently, the food stalls were too close to the canteen bathrooms.” Due to the previous placement of the food stalls, cross-contamination and hygiene issues became more and more common, especially with a public bathroom near consumables. It ensures that the food does not touch any unwanted bacteria from any students using the bathroom.
However, due to this sudden change, many students report having found the canteen lobby switch incredibly disorienting confusing them and making it harder for them to fi nd their favorite snacks.
“It’s really confusing, especially for the student’s who’ve been in MOGCHS for a while,” A student of MOGCHS states. “ Because we already have muscle memory.” Most of the students in MOGCHS believe that the change of cafeteria layout is for the better, as it ensures that the food consumed in the canteen is clean and bacteria free; and it is considered a welcome change.

MANILA - Learners aged 15 years old were still lacking to learn than other countries in Mathematics, reading, and Science as the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) showed.
The Philippines ranked 77th out of 81 countries globally in the student assessment conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for 15-year-old learners.
Filipino students scored 356 in science, 347 in reading, and 355 in math according to mean scores.
Compared to other countries, the mean score for math among OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries were 472 points, 476 in reading and, 485 in science.
In addition, Singapore received 575 points in mathematics, 543 points in reading, and 561 points in science— much higher than any other
Results from the Philippines’ fi rst participation in PISA 2018 were the same to the PISA 2022 average result.
It said, “ Over the most recent period (2018 to 2022), the gap between the highest-scoring students (10% with the highest scores) and the weakest students (10% with the lowest scores) narrowed in mathematics, while it did not change signi fi cantly in reading and science. In mathematics, low-achievers became stronger, while performance did not change signi fi cantly amongst high-achievers.”
It revealed that very few students in the Philippines excelled in mathematics, compared to the highest percentages in six Asian
nations which are Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Macao, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea.

by
CAGAYAN DE ORO — As a result of rising canteen pricing, students attending Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) are experiencing the effects of inflation and due to the rising cost of even the most fundamental components, it increased the amount that students must pay for their meals.
Students who depend on the school cafeteria for reasonably priced lunches are becoming concerned due to the recent price increase. This makes it harder for students to eat in school and typically ends with students letting themselves starve throughout the day.
Most students in MOGCHS no longer eat their breakfasts, and with the current price hike making it harder for students to buy anything, these students are running on almost nothing to eat which results in
health concerns and a sudden amount of students feeling ill.
Considering that most MOGCHS students have very vigorous schedules, this new eating practice is extremely harmful.
As the school tries to fi nd a solution to the problem, the aim is that collaborative efforts will be made to establish longterm solutions. This will ensure that all children have access to inexpensive and healthy meals, despite the dif fi culties posed by in fl ation.

School After Hours: Students loiter around school after dismissal
After-hours activities increase team bonding awareness
by Charmel Gabales
CAGAYAN DE ORO — As the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School bell sounds in November 10, 2023, students who opt to stay after school and participate in extracurricular activities turn the campus into a bustling center of activity.
Students are choosing to remain on campus after school instead of leaving as they usually do, transforming the campus into a bustling community center. "I stay on campus for some reasons, depending on the situation, but mostly I'm just chilling in the classroom after a long, tiring day," said one of the students, Cyrel Bazar.
Students and teachers alike have become interested in and have had conversations about this occurrence.
After-school programs now involve group study sessions and intense debates about current affairs.
The administration of the school is paying attention and realizing the bene fi cial effects on community development and student participation.
By extending their of fi ce hours and offering themselves
for extra academic help or casual conversations, several educators have embraced this trend. The relationship between students and teachers is now more approachable and transparent as a result of accessibility.
Although the school supports this encouraging development, safety and supervision are priorities. The administration is making an effort to guarantee that after-hours events comply with school regulations and that students can pursue their interests in a secure setting.
Traditional dynamics of the educational setting are being reshaped by the trend towards a more engaged after-school community. As long as students stay on campus, the school will have transformed from a place where people go to learn during set hours to a vibrant environment that encourages innovation, teamwork, and a sense of community.

MOGCHS 'seen increase' of learners vaping
by Peter Ramas
Jasper Cañete, guidance counselor at Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, highlighted the increasing number of students caught using vape, as it is said to be highly addictive and harmful to learners' health.
He said during an interview, “This school year, yes there are many cases and those are mostly handled by advisers and prefects of discipline.
Nadakpan sila within the classroom, ug naay nagsumbong nga classmates nga nag vape and naay nag pa aware sa advisers.” Furthermore, Cañete stated that most students that were caught recently by the advisers are Grade 7 and 8 but over the past few years, most of them are Grade 9 and 10. Learners in MOGCHS are not into smoking and most of them are just trying for fun and curiosity.
“So far grade 7 and 8 nga ga try lang nga ga vape jud but not to the point nga maingon nimo nga addicted to it, chainsmokers. Pero mostly ga try lang, from their brother or nakapalit sila,” Cañete said.
Vapes are openly-purchased, and the guidance counselor was unfamiliar with the rules for buying vapes because learners got them easily. The electronic cigarettes were taken by the students and now in the prefect of discipline.
“The school is a smokefree zone supposedly. So no smoking inside school grounds. So if makita sila dani, usually it’s a warning lang siya and talk with the parents” Cañete said.
The student will be expelled from the school if he or she is given three warnings from the guidance counselor.
Learners’ AI Brainrot
by Faith A. Cago
Modern day technology managed to alter the way that we live and it has become abundantly clear that it is only a matter of time before we become dangerously dependent on technology. Innovations like Artificial Intelligence or AI have emerged into the public’s attention in these past years. From the word “intelligence”, it claimed to have helped many as its capabilities are endless and exceptional. Eventually, it made its way into people’s jobs, art works, and the most dreadful of all, education. As a writer myself, this dilemma has never failed to flicker a flame of anger that I never knew existed-- self-proclaimed writers have shamelessly used AI to “enhance” their works, an evident white lie.
Writing skills doesn’t develop overnight, we all know that. It takes years to develop excellent writing capabilities. Claiming that your writing skills are still unseasoned is not enough to justify using AI. Arti ficial Intelligence is not a solution, it never has and it will never be the solution. It is a blessing to some, considering the fact that you can use it as one of your resources for educational purposes, but the usage should be under moderation. Never choose convenience over hardwork and improvement, it will drastically affect not only your life, but also your state of mind. Being harshly independent on AI will do nothing but exacerbate the underdeveloped talent that should’ve been seasoned through rigid training and correct morals.
Arti has never been spectacular, at least for me. Yes, it can generate ideas like a human, it can it can correct mistakes that would sometimes go unnoticeable, it has a creativity that is almost equal to a human but it lacks, it lacks a soul; it lacks emotion. No matter how advanced AI becomes, it will never embody an actual individual.
The concerning dependency of humans towards AI may lead humankind to limit their own capabilities and hold themselves back from developing their full potential. What concerns me the most is the future generations to come, if most of the modern day learners are miserably contingent on AI, just imagine the future youth being almost spoon feeding of technology.
Studying brutally becomes point less if hard work is being dominated by dishonesty disguised as convenience.
Academic achievers who got outranked by AI users are now considering involving themselves in such practice, its almost like putting out
This wince-inducing prejudice is being overlooked and tolerated, it is an obvious problem that no one seems to be interested in addressing. The reason for this is a blur, if it’s common knowledge that dishonesty being demoralized, how come no one seems to bat an eye in this issue?
Even the most honest learners are being tempted to abusively use AI for their own advantages.
AI have become so mainstream that my fellow student journalists got a gist of it. The AI bandwagon was so in fl uential that even student journalists who are the supposed “ truth tellers” have involved themselves in using it.
Ironic isn’t it?
Truth and accuracy are only part of the few journalistic principles that a student journalist like me should observe, plagiarism is considered a moral sin in our world- what has happen? Some of the so-called
truth correspondents have now shamelessly involved themselves in such act. It’s dreadful to think even articles are now hard to trust due to the recklessness, no longer a human’s intellectual property. Talent isn’t something you can fake, scheming people into thinking that you have potential is completely achievable. In my experiences as a student journalist, it always baf fl es me how academically gifted learners are outsmarted by desperate hypocrites who relies on AI and fails to conceal it. I have spent 6 years trying to hone my writing skills, devouring every book that I could get my hands on to improve my gramm ar and widen my vo cabulary, and then all of a sudden, I get out written by a fraud who fools people into thinking that their output is completely human made. A very ironic and bitter act for a journalist to do. It cut me deep er than I cared to admit.
It is such a shame the people who use AI unconcealed are the very same people who are highly- respected and ha a reputation of being an academically inclined learner. If only they knew the secrets under that facade, their actual capabilities that are far from their outputs. I could never fi nd solace knowing for a fact that highly-respected student journalist seniors are tolerating barbaric AI usage. Every time I remember that such genre of learners exist, it makes me want to cause a rampage with all my bottled up rage against those so- called seasoned writers.

Sneak Peak:
We Dress to speak, We Dress to impress
by Marc Andrei Gomez
As learners at public schools where the school uniform is rarely worn, we like to dress well and appear fashionable in our extravagant and lavish attire. However, they may also impose limitations on personal expression. If possible we can reconcile these two points of view. Rules and regulations concerning learners’ fashion are made to protect them from any possible harassment and to instill discipline in the campus, however, these laws have stirred up controversies in regards to transparency and effectiveness.
I see that many girls studying at Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) are even allowed to wear crop tops without being disciplined by the guard. This leads to confusion on whether or not the school is true to their own rules. Is this a matter of cherry-picking? Are the school guards excluding “attractive” girls who are wearing skimpy out fi ts from reprimand and harshly humiliate and scold those who are considered “unattractive”?
It also confuses me when men are forbidden to wear shorts within school premises. It
doesn’t attract the opposite sex, it isn’t even suggestive in the fi rst place. Double standards are being taken into account in dilemmas like this one, can’t help but question the school’s guidelines and accountability.
Student solidarity and professionalism can be fostered through dress standards. It can also help other students to be open minded and avoid them from developing a perverted mind, especially at this age. A young individual’s choice in fashion can be a fundamental element in fl ourishing their decision-making
skills and freedom over themselves. How will these skills be established if schools are limiting their choices? It has always bothered me as to why pre-adolescent girls are being corrected endlessly for their clothing but the opposite sex gets no nagging. But clothing norms can sometimes be limiting and overwhelming in terms of personal expression. Especially for students who use their clothes to represent their cultural identity, gender identi fi cation, and self-expression. The very same students may experience waves of insecurity or
The Classic Question
by Johann Santino Cahayag
The classic game of who’s to blame for a student’s failing grade, well it’s neither. But rather, both sides actually.
The teachers have given it everything they can to teach their students, why should they be blamed for their student’s own failing grades? Well, of course, there’s also blame put on the teacher too. Maybe it’s their teaching style. According to a Study published by NYU Steinhardt, it shows that the teaching style can indeed affect a student’s academic performance. So if a teaching style is bad, their grades might be bad too. So it’s not entirely the student’s fault too. And also, if they keep making consistent absences from class, that too can hurt students massively, and these teachers might expect their students to do well in exams and throw them criticism for scoring low. Teachers can take actions, such as improving their teaching style, request or fi nd better teaching materials, and make their lessons more understandable by students. This can be step by
And there’s also blame on the students too, even if a teacher has some of the fi nest teaching style, materials, attendance, and energy, it’s up to the students themselves to process and learn about this information that’s been taught to them. Really, it all boils down to time management for the students, allocating tasks that the teachers have given them and answering them. Too many tasks can kill any chances of academic heroics by the way. So really, no blame is to be put onto the students or teachers. It is up to both parties to make it work out. Of course there are going to be the hardliner people who still take one side of the con fl ict, and it’s just plain dense. If they really want to make this work then why not support both the teachers and students instead of arguing it out on online forums and debates. We must

humiliation as a result of rigid discriminatory involving their fashion choices.
It’s also important to consider the fi nancial impact of dress codes. Some schools may require students to wear uniforms or speci fi c clothing items, which can be costly for families who may not have the means to purchase them. Schools should work to provide affordable options for all students or consider alternative options, such as allowing students to wear clothing that meets certain guidelines.

Dear Editor,
We often consider a student to be intelligent if they receive numerous awards or have high grades. However, it's challenging to determine if the student's work is genuinely their own or if they used technology to aid their efforts. Your articles are incredibly helpful and could benefit our school in this regard.

Revitalizing Learning Experience
by Emyr Kyle Canoy
At Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), during quarterly exams, the mix of academic efforts and the real pressure of expectations creates a tough situation towards students. Students not only deal with studying from textbooks but also with the stress. It's like a challenging story where the constant pursuit of excellence is closely tied to the impact on mental well-being in the respected halls of education.
However, the echo of exam stress does not only affect the student but also the dedicated educators. These stresses lie two poignant factors: the unending battle against time for preparation and the misalignment between classroom discussions and the contents of the test papers. The ticking clock turns into a tough opponent as students and teachers constantly face a never-ending battle to get enough time to prepare. The demanding academic system often leaves both sides struggling for insuf fi ciency. Within the walls of MOGCHS, the lack of time turns into a big obstacle, hindering students and educators from reaching their full potential and fostering an environment where stress thrives. Moreover, the classroom discourse and examination content do not go hand in hand worsening the stress it causes. As students' focuses on textbooks and class discussions, the divergence between the discussed topics and
the examination contents becomes the main source of stress and frustration. This misalignment does not only question the authenticity of the education system but also making it harder for both students and teacher who put efforts in learning and teaching. For MOGCHS, having enough time for exam preparation is important for both students and teachers. It ensures a solid understanding of concepts. However, when what's taught doesn't match the exam, it creates confusion and stress. Striking a balance by giving ample preparation time and aligning exam content with classroom learning is vital for a successful and authentic education at MOGCHS.
It's time to rethink priorities, the educational institutions should pay more attention to making the learning progress better. Transforming education begins with prioritizing the process of learning, fostering a system that values understanding over exam scores.
Locked away by prices
by Johann Santino Cahayag
How far does the canteen within MOGCHS have to go with its pricing? It’s almost like they’re taking advantage and grabbing in much money as possible from students. While it is affordable for other students, what about the others who are struggling financially?
It’s not surprising that this is the aftermath of the economic crash from COVID-19, but quite recently, this is seeming a tad bit unsettling now, seeing these prices, the average price for most snacks and drinks are 20 or 25 pesos. Comparing last year and this year, the price hike is there. There’s also this speculation that they are rising the price because they know students will bring huge sums of money. And this is clearly a cash grab plan. It’s not fair for students who are struggling. If other public schools can keep their prices cheap why can’t our very own canteen keep theirs cheap? Yes, there have been efforts to reduce prices a little bit but it seems to do nothing about it.
Although it is understandable that food stalls the main source of income are for some vendors, they need to remember their target demographics: students.
It’s just not fair for the students who are struggling on fi nances for prices to be like this. To get a decent snack you’d need around 10 to 20 pesos, and for lunch you’d need 20 to 40 pesos. In addition, some students rely on the canteen to get their meal at lunchtime. The cash grab plan is de fi nitely working. It feels wrong to see this unfold while we do nothing about it. All we can do is hope and pray that the prices become more affordable for students. It’s horribe to see overpriced items in a school canteen. The best solution is to reduce prices and fi nd affordable yet safe ingredients for the various food options available.
Navigating the Storm: Unraveling the Crisis in Philippine Basic Education
by Christine Heart V. Embate
In the midst of the tempest engulfing Philippine basic education, a call for reform echoes through the corridors of uncertainty. The palpable strain on outdated curricula lies at the heart of this crisis, with rigid structures failing to resonate with the dynamic needs of today's learners. A timely overhaul, embracing innovative teaching methods and integrating technology, is essential to rekindle the spark of curiosity and equip students for the challenges of the 21st century of excellence is closely tied to the impact on mental well-being in the respected halls of education.
The recent PIDS discussion paper reveals a concerning statistic: four out of fi ve Filipino students face dif fi culties in understanding, re fl ecting on, or interpreting what they read. This stark reality highlights a critical issue in the Philippine education system, demanding prompt attention. The government's role is pivotal, necessitating targeted interventions such as curriculum adjustments and comprehensive teacher training programs. Addressing this literacy challenge collaboratively is imperative, ensuring Filipino students acquire the

crucial skill of effective comprehension for navigating the complexities of the modern world. In tandem with the curriculum quandary, inequalities in resources worsen the situation. Modern facilities aglow in urban schools, while their rural equivalents languish in decay. In addition to fi nancial efforts, reassessing resource distribution policies is necessary to close this gap. To create a country of educated and capable citizens, a deliberate effort must be made to ensure that all citizens, regardless of geography, have fair access to high-qual ity educa tion.
It's time to rethink priorities, the educational institutions should pay more attention to making the learning progress better.
Transforming education
begins with prioritizing the process of learning, fostering a system that values understanding over exam scores. The predicament of educators exacerbates the state of education. Teachers, who are frequently overworked and underpaid, are essential to determining the destiny of the country. In addition to being morally required, funding teacher preparation programs and improving their standing is a calculated step in developing a capable and driven teaching staff. Acknowledging and valuing educators' commitment can set off a good domino effect that promotes an atmosphere that is ideal for successful learning.
In conclusion, as we navigate the storm of the crisis in Philippine basic education, the pivotal role of the government cannot be overstated. It is incumbent upon policymakers to enact comprehensive reforms that address systemic issues. A government committed to the educational well-being of its citizens is not only an investment in the present but a foundation for a thriving, knowledgeable society poised for future success. In the crucible of this crisis, the responsibility of the government to be a catalyst for positive change becomes a beacon, guiding the nation towards a brighter and more inclusive educational future.

Fightfortheschoolorforyourself? Itisalsounabletoovercomethe schools'rivalrywithoutsucceeding.
Rivals between schools have long been a tradition that helps students feel like they belong and support one another. It is still up for debate, though, whether this fierce competition is actually advantageous or possibly harmful.these laws have stirred up controversies in regards to transparency and effectiveness.
In fact they do it as what they feel is right to protect or provide something to their school in a bad manner. Academic rivalry can serve as a catalyst for students' success because it makes them want to perform better than their peers. However, the pressure to succeed can also lead to stress, which may jeopardize students' mental health.
Good rivalries foster sportsmanship and teach learners the value of fair play and perseverance in the face of adversity. On the other hand, excessive rivalry can encourage bad habits and unsportsmanlike behavior.
Sometimes social divisions are widened by rivalries, which feed stereotypes and a "us versus them" mentality. In order to prevent rivalries from alienating particular groups, schools should work to strike a balance between inclusivity and healthy competition. Due to how fi erce the competition is, there is a constant

competition between the schools to see who can outperform them in different areas.
However, despite the intense rivalry, there is an unspoken knowledge of the schools' common past. Despite its intensity, the rivalry fosters a sense of camaraderie among those who have shared the same passionate competitions for generations. It is an essential component of the community's identity, fostering a sense of community and shared history.
While there's no denying that school rivalries can have a positive impact on a school's culture, fi nding a balance is crucial. School administrators and educators should prioritize promoting healthy competition, sportsmanship, and community engagement while taking precautions to avoid unfavorable outcomes. Ultimately, the importance consists in creating an atmosphere where competition adds to, rather than takes away from the overall educational experience.

makes a lot of people ask the question “Is this really in the name of self-defense?” Operation Iron sword, the name chosen for the Israeli counter attack, has left many Palestinians dead or injured with life threatening conditions, and no, bombing an hospital just because it has a Hamas senior of fi cial is NOT a reason on why you should casually bomb a hospital fi lled with Injured civilians. The west supports Muslims but aren’t Palestinians Muslim too? Where’s your support for them?
Yes, this part of the article where I talk about the Israeli side of the con fl ict. While highly controversial, it’s important to know both sides of the topic. Most of the time if you talk about the Israeli side you’ll see heavy backlash from the public. But really, how does a bunch of Israelis going to see a music concert show any military resistance towards them, and how does shooting them justify anything?
This war will only end if both Israelis and Palestinians move on from their differences.

Far More Than Beauty and Brains
by Faith A. Cago
When I was a kid, I never truly felt beautiful. The reason for this was the comments that my cousins and other family members would make about my appearance, their statements are cemented into my mind till this day but I have never realized that it would take such a toll on me. Naturally, I found a way to prove to them that I was still worthy of their love despite my image. With my ridiculed pride, I would brag about how smart I am for my age. The idea of being pretty and smart didn’t seem plausible for someone like me so I just went ahead and chose one, a more achievable option. I remember watching beauty pageants, with a sharp ear. I'd listen as the announcer words out the candidates’ achievements and how smart they are- whatever advocacy that speaks their heart. That kindled a fire in me, I never thought that such humans could exist, it made my tiny seven year old brain explode. They were often asked “beauty or brains?” as if it’s a non-negotiable question. Such a query is hypocritical and has the most subtle amount of misogyny in it.
The striking contrast of a frizzy-haired girl with thick glasses and a book in hand and a chic with a naturally sultry face has always been displayed in mainstream media, implying that a girl should only become either of the two, there was no room in between nor a space that welcomes both characters. This ingrained prejudice was awfully comprehensive even for a child like me. The multi faceted concept of misogyny is excruciatingly normalized even in the smallest things like how someone compliments a girl who's capable of being drop dead gorgeous and academically gifted, “ You’re so lucky, you have both beauty and brains”. That compliment can be detrimental sometimes, but there are times wherein it makes me want to scream- such choice of words laminated the idea in people’s mind that a woman’s existence would only be rationed down to one aspect. As if being beautiful and smart is a rarity that only a selected few can obtain. Intelligence will always prevail, at least for me. You will never hear someone say, “She’s smart and I like her for that", there will always be the following statement about that person’s appearance. In most of my experiences at school, girls are also expected to do the most. The pressure that parents put on their daughters in comparison, are much more chronic than usual. While it is abundantly clear that girls will excel in academics but the back-handed compliments tear them down like they always
Stamp Out Bullying
In Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, a concerning problem of verbal bullying has taken root. This harmful form of aggression often concealed in casual words and hidden threats, has dimmed the once lively educational environment.
Words, often wielded as weapons, have the power to in fl ict harm that go beyond the surface, affecting the mental and emotional health of those targeted; it tarnishes the educational experience at this school.
do. “ I did not expect her to be a good public speaker, she’s always quiet", “I thought she was all beauty", these statements will leave an abysmal mark on their pride and feelings. Such prejudiced words leave young girls like me vulnerable to compliments and this will lead to developing an inscrutability persona. This dilemma has plagued both women’s and little girls’ life no matter how hard they try to propitiate society’s approval and praise. In the book “The Diary of a Young Girl" written by the Jewish icon Anne Frank, she jots down her experiences as a girl in the middle of the war and Holocaust. In one of the diary entries, she says, ‘Everyone says I’m showing of when I talk, ridiculous when I’m silent, insolent when I answer, cunning when I have a good idea, lazy when I’m tired, sel fi sh when I eat one bite more than I should, stupid, cowardly, calculated, etc.” This led me to think that although our world has altered and aged with time, women have always been seen as infallible. We have always been in fl icted with the pressure of being picture perfect and silent, never a human who can move freely. Our apprehension led us to limit ourselves, our choices were rationalized to only have one persona that is enough for society to understand and handle.
The notion of choosing between beauty or brains is a prime example of a misconstrue statement, although it can be detrimental sometimes, its true intention of leading women to think that they are only capable of having

MOGCHS must stand as a protector of those targeted, promoting inclusivity where every student feels safe and valued.
Verbal bullying often fi nd its roots in a complex interplay of factors. Individuals who are struggling with deep-rooted insecurities may resort to harmful words as an attempt to assert control or de fl ect attention.
Struggles in handling emotions can also contribute; those who are having a hard time expressing themselves may resort to verbal aggression as an outlet.
one persona has exacerbated their doubts of their existence. Those words cut deeper than I cared to admit. How can women and young girls live freely if we are chained down with misogyny and expectations? We don’t need unsolicited pity, what we need is a world wherein we can be everything our heart desires. Our desperate clamors have been silenced for centuries. Women’s benignity is not society to judge. It’s always “beauty or brains " rather than handsomeness or brain", such questions are rarely ever directed at men.
No woman would relish being belittled just by existing. Misogyny is such a hackneyed practice to limit women’s opportunities, God knows how intangible we’d become if we aren’t oppressed, if only our society isn’t full of sexist hypocrites. Sexism is such an old melody that most of the world’s population can sing to, the insidious derision of our capabilities comes easy to most individuals. Our existence has gone through enough abrasion already, it’s depressing to think that our world has evolved endlessly, yet we are nowhere close to achieving a gender- equal world. The beauty and brains compliment shouldn’t be said in a way that it is considered a rarity to obtain such aspects. Women have always been beautiful and intelligent in their own ways, nothing’s new. Nothing’s ever new to us women, always getting the back-handed compliments, never the highest praise.
Status crisis can also drive some to use verbal bullying as a means of elevating themselves at the expense of others. Addressing this issue requires multifaceted solutions. MOGCHS can implement anti-bullying programs emphasizing the importance of communication.
Encouraging an open dialogue within students, educators, and parents is also vital for a supportive environment wherein issues are being raise and address. The Bullying Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10627) plays an important role by

providing legal solutions for preventing and addressing verbal bullying in all educational institution. Taking quick action against verbal bullying is crucial for the well-being of those targeted. It not only stops further harm but also makes it clear that such behavior is not okay. Prompt responses, like counseling and disciplinary measures, protect the emotional and mental health of those affected, creating an environment where everyone feels safe and respected. It is MOGCHS responsibility to ensure that every student got to enjoy their high school life in a full blast.
Navigating the Shadows: Safeguarding Against Internet Apocalypse
by Christine Heart Embate
In an era where connectivity is the lifeblood of our global society, the looming specter of a solar superstorm poses an unprecedented threat to our digital infrastructure. The possible fallout from such an incident might send us into a digital apocalypse and force us to face the weaknesses in our globally interconnected society.
As we celebrate the advances in technology that have bonded us, it is clear how fragile our reliance on technology has become. The internet can bring us closer to everyone, yet this potential event could force us to return to our former habits. The implications might be signi fi cant for electricity grids and communication networks alike. Infrastructure that is resilient must be invested in. Hardening our critical systems against the electromagnetic onslaught of a solar superstorm requires forward-thinking policies and fi nancial commitment. This is about securing the stability of vital services that support modern life, not just safeguarding our digital comfort.
In this attempt, international cooperation is essential. Both the internet and the possible repercussions of a widespread digital blackout are global. Coordinated efforts to exchange information, assets, and tactics can greatly improve our group's capacity to withstand the storm.
Being informed and equipped ought to be essential components of our digital literacy. Knowing how to adjust to a world without continuous connectivity and being aware of the possible risks can mean the difference between chaos and resilience.
Even though it may sound like science fi ction, there is a real threat from the internet that needs to be taken seriously. We can strengthen ourselves against the shadows that a solar superstorm may cast upon our interconnected world by recognizing the risks, making investments in resilience, encouraging international collaboration, and empowering individuals. Being ready for this heavenly task now will in fl uence our capacity to handle the

In an era dominated by technology, the education of the new generation has undergone transformation. However, these changes have brought new adversity in the learning spectrum, the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) is not an exception in all these challenges. The difficulty in education continues to intensify and the lack of access to the internet is one of the main reasons that hinders the students' education.
Poverty is the primary reason that prevents numerous students from accessing the internet. According to the survey conducted by OCTA Research 13. 2 million household or 50% Filipino families rated themselves as poor. Due to the fi nancial crisis faced by these Filipino families, they are unable to provide all their children’s needs and sadly affecting their education.
As the technology assumes on affecting the education system; the lack of access on the internet becomes extremely apparent. Students fi nd themselves struggling to catch up with the intense workload. The resilience towards heavy assignments and paper works does not only tests a student's intellectual capabilities but also causes excessive pressure on their emotional welfare. This educational technique raises questions about the true nature of learning— is it a journey of discovery or an endurance test?
For those students who can't access the internet and the excessive workload worsens the hurdles. The Department of Education (DepEd) should advice teachers to put moderation in homework; Balance homework not only reinforces lessons but also safeguards students from overwhelming stress. While teachers are frequently engrossed in meeting deadlines for grading and evaluating students' assignments, they hold a crucial role in shaping the academic environment. Nevertheless, it is equally vital to acknowledge and honor students' rights to relax during weekends. MOGCHS students is not an exception of these rights; every student should be given a chance for an accessible education and an education that prioritize the student’s well-being without thinking about these barriers—poverty, mental and emotional health. The educational system should promote for a balance academic environment wherein the capability of every student is considered.

To love and land in the land of Laguindingan.
A soft whisper of lullabies a mother sings to her child contradicts the loud splash and the cold breeze of air kissing the runway of Laguindingan International Airport at Misamis Oriental. Yet, both underscore a familiar feeling, signifying a bright hope for tomorrow in every touchdown and every landing at Laguindingan. In every cold drop of rain or may it be the beaming light of the sun peeking in every wall of the airport signi fi es a great deal of dreams
swaying in the vibrant hues of the sky in every take-off and landing of the majestic airplanes, carrying numerous passengers to their destinations.
Every place holds beauty, and one will always open the curtains of the window to shine like a gleaming light with relevance, like the Laguindingan International Airport, sprinkling a glimpse of people’s dreams as they carry their baggage of the past—leaving it for the future.
And like a canoe in the midst of a fi ring storm in the ocean, the airport serves as a lit torch in a dark trailway.
Among the several coastal towns in Lanao del Norte, the 24 towns of Misamis Oriental and its component city are included in the Cagayan de Oro-Iligan corridor special development project, which includes the Laguindingan International Airport as one of its fl agship projects.
Upon every landing in the airplane, one cannot simply stutter when uttering how the blazing frisk of beauty Laguindingan holds interweaves the hearts of every passenger.
To be loved is to be known, and in Laguindingan Airports, they surely know how the cotton balls in the sky create a splash of glimpse for people to see their dreams above or below the vibrant hues in the sky.

How do you cope with exhaustion? In the midst of a chaotic environment, responsibilities come first for the majority, wherein being drowned in a sea full of expectations and pressure is like the portrait most people paint of them. It is their topmost priority, which they set their eyes on as they face every scattered ray of the sun.
There is a daily struggle between tiredness and determination when one wakes up before the sun rises and tries to caress one's mind to manage the day ahead. Their routine consists of leaving their safe haven homes and heading to their of fi ces or schools, sometimes even without stopping for breakfast, all while feeling the chill of the city breeze caressing their skin. Everyone manages to deal with the weariness that consumes their routine days in a different way.
As every tick of the clock passes by, individuals being bombarded with responsibilities are greeted by 'hi! 'as accepting the pressure that awaits becomes part of their day. However, as the aforementioned potential reasons for being drained were stated, how do individuals actually cope with it? With all those nuisances scattered, how do they lift one's chin up to stay at ease?
For several drained people, walking down the path in the midst of a busy lane while the lights tower is how they do feel at peace in the course of hectic occurrences. Barely living but surviving is how it is for some people, but living without the thought of just surviving is how it works out too well for some.
Time management is also one thing that comes up when things tend to get rough like a rubble pathway they're walking in. Avoiding to do things they aren't supposed to work on enables them to save a lot of time as every hour ticks, and for them to work on with their topmost priority fi rst. Living is attempting to live. They manage to cope with the many obligations that lie ahead by constantly exploring this frightening yet beautiful world, like a symphony of colors. They liberate themselves by accepting the beauty and misery of their current world.

as individuals navigate toward a brighter, yet uncertain, future.
People will be people- you can rationalise their life choices and decisions as they pave the way for their future. A person who is a reader today may become an author tomorrow. The ball is in individuals' court; they are free to shape a future aligned with their desires. However, what happens when someone lacks something to look forward to in the immediate future?
Many individuals resemble a vast maze- they require mutual understanding to uncover the depths of their minds where life goals reside. Similar to peeling an onion, understanding them requires layers.
As people explore each other's dreams, one may formulate a plan for their settlement in the near future. Living a luxurious life with a warm family could be someone's dream, or it might be perceived as a hazy notion. While they may envision their destination, doubts may linger when answering the question, 'Do you have a dream in life?' posed by Dream Project PH during their seminar for students and new workers.
According to Dream Project PH founder Prim Paypon, 8 out of 10 Filipinos remained indecisive, sitting on the fence when it came to choosing a pathway. Their responses to such a seemingly simple question circled in ambiguity. Uncertainty arises as Dream Project PH delves into the reasons behind this dilemma, drawing on the consistent fi ndings of their nine-year study. This comprehensive research covered 614 Filipino teenagers in 54 provinces, spanning different socioeconomic classes in the Philippines, revealing their varied responses to the seemingly straightforward question, 'Do you have a dream in life?’
Five reasons behind the questions that arise during the course of study become apparent. As it turns out, the lack of conversation with young individuals can signi fi cantly impact their growth when pursuing future dreams.
The absence of role models is also a major factor in the fl ourishing careers of the youth. Having someone to look up to, who can
encourage and help mold their future selves, proves to be a great asset in shaping the envisioned successful life. Confi ning them and limiting opportunities is also one of the reasons. In a scenario where educational in fl ation is observed raises a bitter question: "Are there even enough job opportunities for everybody?" If most people only emphasise graduate degrees for a better career in a room full of college graduates, the lack of opportunities can impact someone's dream.
Beyond limited opportunities, having scarce resources in today's economic situation across the country is a signi fi cant factor too. Practicality is often seen among individuals who did not have the privilege to secure a life with resources. This predicament resonates deeply among Filipinos, navigating life's hurdles from a tender age, grappling with the poignant reality of being denied the freedom to spread their wings and choose a pathway toward the ful fi lment of their life's aspirations.
May the odds favour those who navigate life, where uncertainties and obstacles loom as potential barriers to the envisioned future. In the delicate gloom of self-doubt and wavering trust, individuals fi nd themselves at the crossroads, debating whether to bravely tread the path they yearn for or surrender to the gentle current of life's fl owing sea, allowing destiny to guide their course.
Brushing the canvas of the future with vibrant hues may evoke a delicate uncertainty, questioning whether the envisioned tapestry truly aligns with one's sense of belonging or the future they envisage for themselves.
Exposing young minds to a limited perspective is a major concern as well. Similar to a box of chocolates, widening their view allows them to shape their life perspective, avoiding limitations on exploration and self-carving. Allowing them to face and overcome life obstacles serves as a bridge toward a more rational perspective, preventing them from being con fi ned.
A path into the realm of educating lies in student teaching, a critical moment in which theory meets practice.
It is here, within the hallowed halls of learning, that the future of education takes shape, molded by the hands of those who dare to inspire.
In the grand tapestry of academia, student teachers are the artisans, threading their way through the fabric of education. Let us turn our gaze to Jacquelyn Rachel L. Tapdasan, a dedicated student teacher whose narrative is embroidered with the delicate touch of poetic language, painting an accurate portrait of her experience.
Embarking on the Voyage, Jacquelyn's journey begins with the planting of a dream, a tiny seed in the vast garden of her ambitions. A classroom, her greenhouse, is a sanctuary where young saplings of intellect are tenderly cultivated. Her teachings, like the fi rst drops of spring rain, gently coax the roots of understanding to delve deeper into the soil of knowledge.
As her con fi dence unfurls like a bud in the morning sun, Jacquelyn's methods evolve. Her explanations, once cautious whispers, now bloom into full- fl edged dialogues. She learns to weave metaphors into her lessons, transforming complex theories into relatable stories that resonate with her students. Each metaphor is a petal added to the blossom of comprehension.
With time, the fruits of her labor begin to ripen. The once timid questions of her students grow into robust discussions, their ideas pollinating the classroom with creativity. Jacquelyn's guidance, akin to the steady hand of a gardener, steers them towards the light of critical thinking and problem-solving.
As the academic year wanes, Jacquelyn takes stock of the harvest. A progress of her students is a bountiful crop, each success a grain in the silo of their collective achievements. She re fl ects on the challenges overcome, the lessons learned, and the wisdom gained. This re fl ection is the nourishment that forti fi es her for the next planting season.
Jacquelyn's tale is one of perseverance and passion. It is a chronicle of a student teacher who, through the seasons of her voyage, has nurtured not only the minds but also the hearts of those she teaches. Her classroom is a microcosm of the world, a place where diversity is celebrated, and every voice is heard.
Her approach to teaching is holistic, recognizing that each student is a unique individual with their own story. She fosters an environment where curiosity is encouraged, and learning is a collaborative adventure. Her lessons are not con fi ned to textbooks; they are life lessons that prepare her students for the world beyond the classroom walls.
As Jacquelyn's voyage continues, she remains a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration. Her dedication to her craft is unwavering, her commitment to her students unyielding. She is a testament to the power of education and the enduring impact of a teacher who teaches from the heart.
Jacquelyn's assiduous teaching voyage is a reminder that the journey of education is never-ending. It is a perpetual cycle of growth, discovery, and enlightenment—a voyage that sails on the winds of knowledge and docks at the shores of wisdom.
For many, the seed of teaching is sown in the heart, a tiny spark that grows into a burning desire to enlighten young minds. A journey marked by the growth of both educator and pupils, and a testament to the transformative power of teaching—a profession that continues to bloom with each passing season.

"Tick... tock... tick... tock” The unrelenting sound of the scholastic clock makes a symphony of shorter school time, taking away one's time but also mending through the intricate web it weaves for a better tomorrow.
Students are restricted to the rigidity of long school hours in a world that is constantly bustling with activity. It is similar to how a pile of homework brings them down like a deep pit- they can't easily claw their way out of it. But what if there was a way to unlock their full potential? Consider a scenario in which shorter school days rede fi ne education—could this be the missing piece of the puzzle?
Do people ever wonder if the numerous hours spent in school genuinely enhance learning? As the expectations of students increase, so does the desire for shorter school days. Could this trend change the way people educate bright future leaders?
In the life of the students' school journey, there's a toll that long hours take on students' creativity and commitment. It's like moulding students to become batteries—they wake up with the same exact feeling as yesterday and are not able to feel the same spark again when school stuff just piles up day by day like dirty clothes waiting to get washed. With worn looks and depleted enthusiasm, it's time to consider the impact of the Philippines' educational system.
As the sun beams its rays and the scorching heat embraces the students, there lies an exhaustion yet ambitious shadow. Students may bene fi t from shorter hours as a breath of fresh air.
Picture a teenager handling homework, extracurricular activities, and a social life—sounds familiar? The challenge is genuine, and it is shared by students all across the world. Shorter school days may be the one ray of hope in this turbulent storm.

A single glimpse of light holds so many reasons to strive.
In the cold breeze of night roaming free along with the stars that shine so bright, the young Renniel Jabagat continuously let his igniting tenacity burn all of life's stumbling blocks as he chases the dream a child would always long for. He pursues his tomorrows outside the convenience store 7-Eleven near Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City under the gleaming light peaking through like a torch in a dark alleyway that serves as his guide to write and strive for his studies as their home was enveloped with complete darkness, lacking the brightness to guide him with his homework.
In a world where people encounter their highest of highs and lowest of lows in every tick of the time, some are not even one step closer to the ladder of being in the highest of highs.
To walk in a cobblestone without a single mark of a sound of high heels portrays an individual walking barefoot with calloused feet and beads of sweat dripping down their forehead as they walk through life's circumstances.
Similar to Renniel, amidst all the towering walls hindering his tomorrows, he chose to light his own torch; it was his determination and perseverance that brought him to fi nd a light in the middle of the intricate pathway of his journey.
From sprinkler splashes to fi replace ashes, the blood, sweat, and tears he had poured fi nally bloomed beyond bounds. The beacon of light Renniel once followed guided him to the door of another chapter of his life as he graduated junior high school, conveying the spirit of working hard in the midst of life's torrential downpour.
As the pitch-black trail embraces Renniel, his persistence leads him to fi nd the light at the end of the tunnel.

What a sight to gaze upon as a nurtured flower unfurls with each watering, much like a child's success blossoms under the reposeful eye of parents who brace them through the maze-like garden of life.
As a student basks in the radiant glow of their success, there exists a steadfast source of support, someone who carries their burdens and exudes immense pride in their accomplishments. These individuals are none other than their parents, cheering with profound pride as they acknowledge their child's hard work and growth.
Aj Love Tan, who just passed the licensure examination for RMT in August 2023, shared how her parents have molded her and have been growing along with her throughout life's obstacles.
“My parents are my role models, my pillars of strength and my inspiration. As educators themselves, I saw how dedicated they are to teach their students their expertise. They instilled the importance of intelligence with character to me and my siblings. These pushed me to also work hard for myself, to try to learn with the best
of my ability while not compromising other experiences in life.” Aj Tan said.
As the timeless adage whispers, "No man is an island," tenderly conveying the notion that each soul possesses a steadfast companion, a beacon amid life's tumultuous seas- like Aj Tan’s parents, who have attended thousands of her births of the person she’s becoming day by day.
“I was lucky enough to have very supportive parents who never forced me to do something I don’t like nor required me to always be number one. They are always ready to celebrate and congratulate me on every little achievement I achieve.” She added.
Being drained out is the absence of rest; unable to refresh oneself. But, it can be steered clear of with a warm touch of a parents’ hands.
Somewhere in this world, a tree sprouted the same day someone's born, like their parents’ who have been accompanying their growth from the beginning. Water them every single day with gentle care and wise words, nurturing their existence. The simple act of growing alongside them plays a signi fi cant role in a child's success, as par ents have been part of their journey from the very start, illustrating their profound impact on their child's life.
Amidst life’s stum bling blocks, the sacri fi ces of a par ent fl ourish like delicate petals upon witnessing their child in a blink of an eye, illuminat ing the pathway they aspire to explore as time passes by.

Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) stands tall as a living testament to the Philippines' rich educational legacy. Born from the vision of Don Apolinar Velez Y. Ramos in 1909, this institution has blossomed into an influential hub shaping the minds of tomorrow.
Amidst esteemed national fi gures like American Governor-General William Cameron Forbes and speaker Sergio Osmena Sr., MOGCHS saw its grand inauguration on December 15, 1909. Initially catering to intermediate grades—Grade 5, Grade 6, and the fi rst year of high school—the school's growth knew no bounds. As resources fl owed in, it expanded to encompass second, third, and fourth-year classes.
Filipino educators, pioneers like Esperanza Roa-Ongpin and Juanita Fernandez-Neri, carved the early identity of MOGCHS. Their dedication laid the groundwork for the institution's future.
A de fi ning juncture unfolded on June 19, 1965, with Republic Act 4247 heralding MOGCHS's transformation into a national high school. This metamorphosis elevated its stature, cementing its unwavering commitment to delivering quality education.
Nestled in Cagayan de Oro City's heart, MOGCHS sprawls across approximately 7.3629 hectares. It has become synonymous with educational excellence in the "City of the Golden Friendship." Catering to about 9,000 students, the school molds them into responsible, college-ready individuals.
Upholding discipline and fostering academic prowess, MOGCHS takes pride in its serene and well-maintained environment.
Under the stewardship of Principal Mr. Pedro H. Montejo, MOGCHS thrives. His dedicated and affable leadership ensures the institution's seamless operation while upholding values of excellence and discipline.
MOGCHS isn't merely a school; it stands as a guiding light, illuminating the transformative potential of knowledge and community. From its humble origins as Misamis Oriental High School to its current status as a prestigious national institution, MOGCHS continues its legacy, nurturing generations of bright and grounded students. Committed to quality education, it remains at the forefront of shaping the nation's future and progress.

Students wield this enchiridion as their navigation map in their high school life. A starting point for the newcomers. A compass for the current. The guidance set forth to induce order and harmony to truly become members of the MOGCHS community.
A school handbook is a symbol of identity. Bearing its name, its century-decade-and-four years long history, resolve and outlook.
It survives the market without its identity pillar, but not for long. Soon, that weakness becomes a catalyst for an impending fall from grace.
MOGCHS's stance focuses on and strives for effective learning to happen. But with its learners oblivious of their background, rules, and ambitions, they can neither truly grasp and recognize its purpose nor their presence in the school.
"Why stay here in MOGCHS when you don't know the policy?" from Kate M. Villanueva's editorial article, MisOr Torch February 2023 Issue.
A question that enjoys the best of both worlds. It's both an easy and dif fi cult question for a MOGCHS student. With the basic information as grounds expect a shallow answer and disregard an in-depth personal response.

A house scarce of foundation, with no clear identity. They revere Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School as the oldest high school in the Province of Misamis Oriental. Standing and serving its community for 114 years and counting, this high school unlocks a special badge for establishing itself while lacking a key component in its school foundation–the student handbook.
that MOGCHS fails to supply a readily available handbook for students to gain insight into the school.
Its absence fuels the process of students failing to remember the school policies and laws. Reaching a breaking point, are the students cognizant of the school policies?
Obeying what is written in the book is no monkey business for MOGCHS and their stern pressing the learners to follow the customs, but how can they if their ignorance overpowers their knowledge?
Even the alumni attending the school before the pandemic received no handbook, and it was when the school had enough budget to make one. So, it's no wonder whether their successors also fail to receive the fabled handbook.
According to a response by two former MOGCHS students Allyzien, who belongs to Batch 19'-20' states that they didn't receive any handbook and believes that "the school should give students a copy of the student handbook as it serves as the guide of the do's and don'ts of the school". And Allyzza, who belongs to Batch 17'-18' claimed she had no idea about the student handbook and pondered what it meant.
Embarking on the journey of delicately tending to the demands of the present, all the while cradling the aspirations of the future in a gleaming glow of sustainable intentions.
Nurturing a sustainable haven for students has been a steadfast, long-term endeavor for the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), This endeavor required substantial dedication, given that the utilization of paper cups and bags falls short of embracing a holistic commitment to sustainable practices.
Regrettably, within the hallowed halls of MOGCHS, some canteen workers persist in employing plastic bottles and even plastic straws. This contradiction undermines the envisioned eco-friendly haven for students and faculty. The continued reliance on plastics fails to capture the true essence of a sustainable canteen, as it neglects the imperative to curtail the use of these environmentally burdensome materials.
In the beaming light of sustainability, alternative materials take center stage as the protagonists, gracefully guiding the school canteen through a captivating transformation. This involves replacing plastic bottles and straws with eco-friendly counterparts, such as biodegradable or compostable options, and introducing waste reduction magic alongside beckoning composting bins.
Like an oasis in the desert, the canteen, under their leadership, not only embraces responsible consumption but also showcases their concern for nature, becoming a steward of the environment. This marks the fi rst ethereal step, guiding the school canteen into the evolution of sustainability.
Alternatives, in their simplicity, meet present needs without casting shadows on the future. They gently nudge towards a better environment, offering incentives that weave a subtle thread of improvement for both students, teachers, and dedicated school staffs.

An Eternal Dream of Perpetual Motion: A Scientific Attraction
by Leanne Peony Louisse Abanil
Despite being ruled implausible by scientific rules, perpetual motion machines have long captured the imaginations of researchers and everyone else. Although physics has led, with two thermodynamic laws, to the opinion that a perpetual motion machine is impossible to be manufactured, inventors of every age and educational level appear to claim that they have invented something
According to these laws, energy cannot be produced or destroyed, and any macro activity requires friction or other barriers that restrict effectiveness. While attempts at creating perpetual motion machines go back to the Middle Ages, modern theories have shown them to be impossible. Even technology that appears to be powered by different sources, such as ocean currents, eventually runs out of energy when the sources are depleted. It's worth mentioning that time crystals, found in 2016, display eternal motion on a small scale, but extracting energy from them is dif fi cult, thus they don't break thermodynamic rules.
Covert Crisis: Schools’ Silent Drug Dilemma
by Leanne Peony Louisse Abanil
Schools, traditionally known as safe havens for learning and growth, are facing an increasingly worrying challenge— the impact of drugs among students. Police caught a Grade 10 Student who brought illegal stuffs in a public School in Negros Occidental.
According to police reports, a pedicab driver reported that the student threatened to attack the pedicab driver on the head with an explosive device after the driver refused to take him to school. The student brought a dried marijuana and hand grenade.
Numerous factors contributed to this alarming surge which the Barangay of fi cials immediately alerted the Talisay City Police Station for an immediate response. Inside the 21 year old student’s bags, the police recovered dried marijuana leaves and a tooter— a type of paraphernalia. The student was taken to custody.
Administrators at the school have reviewed their safety and security procedures in response to the occurrence to make sure that everyone in the academic community is safe. The school's statement also stated that local education of fi cials will make sure kids receive psychosocial help.
In an ambush interview on Tuesday, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa announced that the agency has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Philippine National Police. He stated that the deal is connected to the department's attempts to strengthen security measures in schools, but he did not disclose any speci fi cs. The Department of Education (DepEd) also cautions the students “to be more mindful and responsible for their decisions and actions as these have corresponding consequences eventually.”
“When it comes to the police, their direct supervisor or superior won’t be the school head. And in terms of commanding security personnel, forming a security plan – we know that these should come from the School,” Basilio said. Educational institutions are combat zones in this battle against drugs. Schools, administrators, teachers, and counselors are on the frontline,
striving to detect, prevent, and address substance abuse issues effectively.
Tackling drug issues within schools demands a collective effort. Collaborations between schools, families, law enforcement, and community organizations are vital in creating a uni fi ed front against substance abuse. Community engagement programs, awareness campaigns, and regular check-ins can reinforce the message of zero-tolerance for drugs within the broader societal framework.
As this issue evolves, the responsibility lies with each one of the people to foster an environment where schools remain safe, nurturing spaces for learning and growth, free from the shadow of substance abuse.
Perpetual motion machines are commonly connected with three types of devices that aim to break certain thermodynamic laws. However, all such attempts have failed due to simple physics laws. Despite the enduring desire for perpetual motion, scienti fi c and governmental bodies rejected claims of its existence and do not recognized these machines.
Perpetual motion machines remains a fascinating idea that continued through the ages. However, the laws of thermodynamics, which manage the behavior of energy in the universe, clearly reveal that developing a machine that can function endlessly without an external energy source is impossible.
Egalitarianism for Women in Science
by Leanne Peony Louisse Abanil
Gender Biased preconceptions discourage girls from pursuing professions in Science need to be dispelled, and women who aspire to work in science needs to be supported by Philippines. It starts at a young age where girls receive toys that are thought suitable for them by families. Girls may be primed for what they may or may not get into in the future by this kind of early encounter, which eventually shapes their professional pathways. "Women are underrepresented in those teams that are developing our satellites. Now, when we are searching for the new team to develop new satellites, it's turning out to be the same. It looks like that's still the trend," Perez told Philstar.
It’s a different situation, but, at the Department of Science and Technology’s Industrial Technology Development Institute, women researchers exceed male researchers by 16%. ITDI Director Annabelle Briones shared that ITDI observes gender equality, with women enjoying opportunities. In 2017, the Philippines dropped one notch to 17th place. Although it has closed 78.4% of its gender gap to date, in terms of reaching gender parity, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in its Global Gender Gap Report.
In terms of reducing gender disparities in political leadership, health, education, and the economy, the report tracks 150 nations' progress. The Philippines' results from the previous year were the "second-best" in East Asia and the Paci fi c, behind New Zealand, despite its lower ranking.

A new world will set free, should we go to another space to live in a new lifestyle. New environment that will surely blow our minds, leaving a thing that is purely ours. As we watch some movies our planet is colonized or we colonize a space, are any of them realistic?
Space colonization; use of outer space or celestial bodies other than Earth for permanent habitation or an extraterrestrial territory. Some individuals think that it advances in architectural design, alternative fuel production, and low gravity manufacturing. In reality, space colonization is a complex and challenging endeavor that requires overcoming numerous technical, logistics, and biological hurdles. "The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever." Konstantin Tsiolkovsky said. Harsh conditions of space, including radiation, microgravity, and the lack of oxygen, present signi fi cant challenges to long term human habitation. Organizations like NASA and some other private companies like SpaceX are actively working on developing spacecraft that could support human life on Mars. In addition to the technical challenges, there are also ethical and legal

Changing Climate, Changing World
by Rhylee Bangga
“Speak up, and act up. Advocate for changes to the energy system.” Climate change has been a major crisis that millions of people face in the entirety of their lives. With rapid glacier melt, rising sea levels, severe drought, and extreme weather— How should people battle it?
From extreme weather events to shifting ecosystems, the impacts of this multifaceted crisis are increasingly apparent, demanding urgent attention and collective action.
According to Dr. Ingrid H. Zabel, an expert physicist said these are the following solutions to combat against Climate Change: Conserve Energy by minimizing the use of energy-ef fi ciency.
In a fossil-fuel based society, using energy leads to greenhouse gas emissions and even low-carbon, clean energy sources cause some environmental degradation. Conserve water and avoid over usage. It takes a lot of energy to clean water, pump it out to buildings, and pump the wastewater back to be cleaned again. That energy use leads to greenhouse gas emissions. Majority of indoor household water use comes from toilets, washing machines, baths, showers, faucets and leaks. Outdoor water usage for things like watering the grass, washing the driveway, and for recreational uses can also use signi fi cant amounts of water.
Help conserve and restore forests. Forests excel at taking in and storing carbon. 3Rs help reduce the demand for products that contribute to deforestation, such as paper and wood products. Students can make an effort to reduce their consumption, reuse items as much as possible, and recycle waste. Raising funds for conservation organizations can be a powerful way to contribute to forest conservation. This could involve organizing a bake sale, a charity run, or any other fundraising event.
Encouraging one another to mitigate climate change can take a huge toll in the lives of millions, especially children. Just like any colony, people must prevail and thrive with unity.
Embracing renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering global cooperation are crucial steps toward mitigating the impact and securing a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.
students with their full energy are engaged in learning at their beloved school, but,
School should be a haven of growth, improvement of knowledge, and education but the sight of over fl owing trash cans and litter around the school grounds have dropped a concern to everyone.
Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) have made several actions to this issue.
Students are most-likely lacking discipline in segregating their garbage.
A lack of awareness about proper waste disposal practices among students and staff, coupled with insuf fi cient waste management infrastructure worsen the problem. Improper waste disposal at school can attract pests, create foul odors, and even contribute to the spread of diseases.
According to Clean Management Environment Group, land pollution, water pollution, climate change, and plant death can be the effects of improper garbage waste disposal.
The National Solid Waste Management Commission worked with Nestlé PH’s Assistant Vice President and Sustainability Lead, Christine Ponce-Garcia, to develop SWM modules that teach children in Grades 1 through 10 how to practice three R’s, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. “We reaf fi rm our commitment to raise happy, healthy, and environmentally responsible children.
the growing problem of school
We need to educate them as early as possible to be more mindful of the waste in school, at home and in their communities,” said Ponce-Garcia.
These effects are a component of Nestlé Wellness Campus (NWC), the company's fl agship advocacy program in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). It aims to uplift the lives of Filipino families through nutrition, health, and wellness, as well as environmental education.
MOGCHS took action by changing their trash cans before students go back to school after Christmas and New Year break, changing their trash cans to a more segregated material. The waste segregation area of the school where garbage is bunked is managed by the janitors well.
"The Philippines has good solid waste management laws, like Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act," explains Norlan Talay, a barangay secretary in the municipality of Silang.
It's Important to recognize that this problem goes beyond exquisite, it impacts our environment, and most importantly our health. Through small steps, we can turn our school into a shining example of environmental stewardship by doing little but meaningful actions like recycling, trash reduction, and educational campaigns.
