MATATAG CURRICULUM: MOGCHS plans for SY 2024-2025

To strengthen quality education for students to be responsible and well-being learners, teachers in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School gathered with the head teachers to discuss the MATATAG curriculum on July 19, 2024.

The discussion started with the TLE head teacher, Wenchito Teopiz introducing a way to make this happen called "Collaborative Expertise", a concept that recognizes varying expertise and aims to "reduce variability in teacher effectiveness", that aims the teachers to have different roles and collaborate with each other to achieve quality education.

In addition, it will also help the teachers to make reading materials with different ideas that will encourage the students to learn further.

Teachers will be getting 'P5,000 in budget' for the reading materials, as it was said to the DepEd, which means the teachers no longer have a problem with the cost. Furthermore, teachers were encouraged to enhance their teaching skills and learn new techniques that will make the students learn in the easiest and most understandable way possible.

DepEd secretary caps MOGCHS’ fund issue

FDuring the press conference held inside the School-Based Management (SBM) office, MOGCHS school principal, Abdon Bacayana, raised its ongoing problem and said that 3 buildings in the said school will be demolished and clear the areas to build new infrastructure.

In accordance with the plan, MOGCHS needs 98 more classrooms due to the increasing number of students reaching up to 10,000.

Bacayana emphasized during the School Parent-Teacher Association Organization Meeting (SPTA) meeting that MOGCHS will not receive any funds from the province because the school is affiliated in Misamis Oriental and not in the city, even though 95% of students from Cagayan de Oro are being catered.

In addition, the partnership between parents and the school is the only way to lessen the amount of problems in MOGCHS and to have improvements.

SPTA chairman in MOGCHS addresses also a problem regarding its funds to DepEd secretary Angara and said that the parents are not in favor of providing from theschool's collection.

"Yung parents, kasi are-nag start na kami ng collection and ang daming reklamo na pumupunta sila sa social media para ma i stop ang ganitong paraan. How will we be able to accomplish things that are needed to accomplish kung may mga taong hindrance sa collection po," the chairman said.

Angara answered and said that it is voluntary and the school should not pursue the parents to participate in this kind of process.

"Kung ayaw nila magbigay, wag na silang pilitin. So its up to parents and family to decide ano ang extent ng kanilang contributions at ayon po kay senator Raffy Tulfo and the Department Order," the DepEd secretary said.

The DepEd secretary is still processing the school's issue, addressing the chairman to give enough time to study the case.

SPTA chairman bares MOGCHS’ 5-month financial report

As the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) Organization Meeting continues, SPTA president, Manuelito Largo, released a financial report in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School to address the school's expenses and income as of June 5, 2024.

According to Manuelito, the SPTA collected P927,885 from the organizations and students inside MOGCHS, aiming for operating expenses of a total of P767,769

In addition, the expense in Journalism requests increased to P105,400, school paper printing P93,750, and SPTA Project and Uniform P65,000.

Inside the financial report, he cited that the sports activities cover over P300,000 because of the priorities that were given to the school principal due to the problems of traveling to the venue in the upcoming athletics at Balingasag.

To emphasize the reason for this budget, the school principal, Abdon Bacayana, said to the parents, "Ang venue sa sports sauna is naa sa Pelaez Sports Center, in other words, ang MOGCHS dili na ga gasto in terms of sa pamilite. But karon, na change ang venue, which is sa Balingasag, and mao na ang problema kay we need to travel back and forth from CDO to Balingasag."

He also added that 395 athletes participated in various sports that are separated from different areas in Balingasag, and 30 teachers are in charge of food assistance, which is where the financial problem extends.

The school principal focuses on using the budget of the sports and journalism program because of its 'consecutive winning' that lives the title of "Home of the Champions."

Financial struggle hits campus students

Due to the lack of educational support from the parents, students in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) face problems regarding school expenses in different activities, resulting in a lower performance grade.

Teachers in school clarified that some students are facing financial problems and it may cause difficulties for the students' education and also added to the possibilities that these students might end up being bullied.

Discovery said that a lot of these students had dropped out to work and provide for their families instead, and some became prostitutes for allowance.

"Some students that lack child support could end up failing in classes and becoming unstable in the future if these students let the issue get to them," a parent stated.

Students in MOGCHS can also face significant challenges that may impact their academic success and also their well-being.

In addition, the absence of parents physically and emotionally has an impact on students' productivity in school.

Some main factors of this issue are the absence of the parents and their financial problems. Inflation can also take part in this issue, which needs a solution from the government.

Congress blasts VP Sarah’s book ‘Isang kaibigan’

During the hearing of the House of Representatives’ committee, VP Sara Duterte’s children book ‘isang kaibigan’ stirred an argument due to the book’s factual inconsistencies and grammatical errors on appropriations.

Kabataan part-list Rep. Raoul Manuel emphasizes that these inconsistencies will only contribute to the ongoing education crisis in the country.

Manuel directs his attention to the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) proposed 2025 budget for Duterte’s book ‘Isang Kaibigan’ while the VP refrains from responding to questions, concerning when VP Sara did not mention the editor of the book.

“Pero since ayaw pong ibigay yung name ng editor ng children’s book, ito kasi ‘yong point natin Madam chair. The book contains many errors [...] kasama po dyan dahon ng Banahaw, wala naman pong dahon ng Banahaw, baka anahaw po itinutukoy,” Manuel said.

OVP claims the book

has undergone peer editing, however, the book contains numerous inaccuracies.

‘’Yong word na sila, dapat po sina, tapos ‘yong ‘walang awa’, dapat nga may hyphen po ‘yan. Tapos Madam chair, nakalagay din ‘yong pugad daw ng kuwago ay nakapatong sa sanga. Madam chair, sabi ng mga eksperto, ang owl’s nest, ay hindi po nakapatong sa sanga. Either [nasa] butas po yan [ng] mga puno or nasa ilalim ng lupa,” Manuel added. In addition, aside from the book’s inconsistencies, Manuel also claimed that the book isn’t child-friendly because the content lacks appropriate elements as well as proper grammar and sentence construction suitable for the

targeted audience.

“This book is not child-friendly as per our writers, kasi ‘pag children’s book, Madam chair, hindi lang ‘yong text ‘yong mahalaga, pati ‘yong visuals, Madam chair. So ‘yong illustrations are not cohesive, parang ‘yong elements, pinatong lang sa background [...] Also Madam Chair, sa content, nage-impose po siya na kung paano dapat umastang isang kaibigan, but for children’s books dapat hindi siya nag-i-impose ng anumang bagay sa bata,” Manuel said.

VP Sara’s book ‘isang kaibigan’ is still an ongoing discussion between the senates, due to the proposed 2025 budget for Duterte’s book.

NEDA’s faces backlash on its 21-peso meal plan

In response to criticism of its P21 per meal metric for food poverty, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) emphasized that the food threshold was not intended to reflect the cost of meals for a "decent standard of living.”

In a statement, NEDA secretary Arsenio Basilican cited that the purpose of the food threshold is not to identify how much a family could spend on food but rather to serve as the basis for the government's poverty policies.

According to NEDA secretary Arsenio Basilican, the goal of the food threshold is to provide a baseline for the government's policies

regarding poverty rather than determining how much a family can afford to spend on food.

“These thresholds serve as part of a broader set of tools used to assess the country’s development progress and to measure the effectiveness of the government’s policies and programs in addressing poverty. They are not, and were never intended to be, prescribed budgets

for a decent standard of living. They do not dictate how much a family should spend on food, nor do they provide an idea of a desirable household budget,” Balisacan, who was a poverty economist before he joined NEDA, said on August 15. The government utilizes this, according to NEDA, in order to "measure and monitor the trend

of poverty over the years" and determine whether or not programs and policies truly decrease the rate of poverty.

Based on PSA's latest report, the Philippines poverty rate fell to 15.5% in 2023 from 18.1% in 2021. Food poverty also declined to 4.3% in 2023 from 5.9% in 2021.

DOH logs over 200k Dengue positives on September

Dengue cases from January to September in the Philippines rise to 208,965 that is 68 percent higher compared to the same period last year according to the Department of Health and local cities conduct fogging operations.

Latest data from the DOH shows that the total dengue cases for the same period last year was 124,157.

Furthermore, the local govern ment in Malaybalay City conducted fogging operations as Dengue cases have increased to 5099 according to the record of Provincial Health Of(PHO) since January 2024.

It is said that at least 17 people have died from dengue in the province but there is no outbreak from this disease.

In addition, authorities have also yet to discuss the declaration of a state of calamity.

PHO confirms that Malaybalay City has the most cases with a number of 926 followed by Valencia City with 508 and these cities have two reported deaths each. Furthermore, in order to secure the city’s safety, PHO distributed treated mosquito nets to some schools to prevent dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

“Kung di ka mag-cleanup unya mag-fogging mao ra gihapon mobalik ra gihapon ang lamok kay di man kasulod ang aso sa tubig, so clean up gyud ta,” Bukidnon PHO Dengue Coordinator, Sergio Flores,

Health officials once again urged the public to follow the 5S habit in order to prevent dengue that includes search and destroy, self-defense, seeking early advice, supporting fogging, and maintaining hydra-

Fire hits MOGCHS’ studes in Carmen

Students in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) were affected by the fire incident, resulting in a major loss of their valuables that failed to save at Sitio Tambo on August 9, 2024.

A Grade 11 learner in MOGCHS said that they have lost their necessary items and are unable to retrieve anything aside from their deceased mother during her vigil.

In addition, the student’s father and his 2 siblings are still in a tent given by the Barangay Carmen at Tambo while the other siblings are staying with their relatives.

Sophia Orio, grade 10 student said that her grandparents were affected by the fire and unable to retrieve their important things except for their computer shop, as it razes in a short span of time.

Furthermore, The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirms approximately 25 families were affected in the fire incident as Sitio Tambo, Barangay Carmen raised into a fourth alarm.

BFP-Cagayan de Oro District

Spokesperson, SFO3 Emilda Barazan said, “Dili pa certain as to sa iyang cause leading ta to electrical ta base sa iyang information pero… kamulo ang atong investigation.”

Around 80 families were displaced by separate fire incidents in Cagayan de Oro and authorities stated that the damages covered P2 million pesos.

In covering the burning fire, firefighters were unable to assess as soon as possible because the road is narrow and the low-lying electrical wires.

“Gamay ang dalan unya naa pa’y sometimes double parking unya mga low-lying electrical wires usa pud na siya sa challenge. Unya kini pud urban naay mustandby mutan-aw so ang crowd makabagbag sa easy access ug paspas nga pagresponde,” firefighter, Barazan said.

The local government continues to help the survivors while the cause investigation is still ongoing.

MOGCHS studes stress on academic press

NFA P9-B fund secures palay procurement

by Peter Lewis Ramas

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel

Jr. assured the local farmers as the National Food Authority (NFA) secured Php9 billion in additional budget for the wet harvest season to continuously procure the palay (unhusked rice).

"The NFA will have enough funds to support rice farmers through the wet season, which is critical for their livelihoods during this challenging period," Tiu Laurel said. Furthermore, the additional funds will help the farmers procure a high volume for the country's national rice buffer stock, reaching 8.7 million bags, while helping other

farmers in their adjusted paddy buying price range.

NFA administrator Lary Lacson said, "This volume aligns well with the NFA's wet season procurement target of 6.4 million to 8.7 million bags." In addition, the NFA can produce approximately 7.2 million 50-kg bags of palag at Php 25 per kg, and armers will still benefit from the adjusted price.

Larry Lacson noted that the measures to use the sacks of farmers in the procured palay will help NFA to gain enough funds along with the recent increase in the rice selling price to the Department of Social Welfare and Development to PHP38 per kg.

To address the academic stress as the school year starts, students in Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School emphasize the numerous activities they have from various subjects, which lead them to stress.

“It’s not just about passing anymore. There’s this constant need to be the best, to stand out, and it can be really overwhelming, a MOGCHS grade 10 student said, who fears disappointing their parents. The student also added that due to the activities that were given, she stays up late just to finish all the assignments and study for a quiz, which made her feel like there was no time to take a break. Despite the challeng-

es, many students are finding ways to cope and helping each other to understand the lesson, forming a study group. Others focus on time management techniques, such as creating a realistic goal.

“We understand that students are under a lot of pressure. We try to provide support and guidance, but it’s crucial for students to manage their time effectively and seek help when they need it,” one of the teachers said.

As the school year progresses, students at MOGCHS continue to face the challenges of high school life. Pressure to excel remains; balancing academic responsibility with self-care and growth is important in learning.

Dangerous Ripple of Misinformation

Misinformation has become an everyday challenge in the digital world. False stories spread like wildfire, especially on social media, where posts go viral in seconds. People often share what they see without checking if it’s true, believing they are helping or staying informed. Unfortunately, by the time the truth comes out, the damage is often already done. This shows how easy it is to fall into the trap of misinformation, even with good intentions.

The impact of misinformation isn’t just about wrong opinions—it touches real lives. During the pandemic, false cures and health myths spread confusion and put people in harm's way. Misleading information about politics has caused divisions within families and communities. When people act on false beliefs, it can lead to distrust, fear, and unnecessary conflict, making it harder to solve real problems together.

It’s not surprising that

misinformation spreads so easily. Social media platforms reward content that grabs attention, not necessarily what is true. Many people naturally share things that match their opinions, without realizing they might be spreading inaccuracies. This creates echo chambers, where the same misleading ideas keep circulating, making it even harder for people to see other perspectives.

Education can play a key role in fighting misinformation by

helping people think critically. Institutions like Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School can be a great tool for this; simple steps, like teaching the youth in questioning the source of information or looking for multiple opinions, can make a big difference. Yet, media literacy isn’t just for students—it’s a skill everyone needs to navigate today’s world. When people become more mindful about what they consume and share, the spread of falsehoods can slow down.

AI: Smart Responsibility

Artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved from a futuristic concept into an integral part of everyday life, significantly shaping how individuals interact with the world. In the context of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), AI is increasingly present, influencing everything from virtual assistants that help students organize their schedules to educational tools that personalize learning experiences. This technology acts almost like an invisible companion, providing support and enhancing daily academic life. Unlike humans, AI does not tire or experience emotions, working tirelessly behind the scenes. This capability offers a powerful role—delivering convenience and efficiency while enriching the educational experience. Despite AI's many advantages, maintaining a balance between technological innovation and human connection is crucial, especially in a school environment. While algorithms can suggest study resources or assist in project planning, they often lack the depth to understand the complexities of human emotions and learning needs. A machine may simulate empathy but cannot replicate the spark of genuine human interaction. This underscores the importance of ensuring that AI augments education without overshadowing the intrinsic value of teacher-student relationships and emotional understanding.

Responsibility accompanies every technological tool. At MOGCHS, it is essential to utilize AI thoughtfully to avoid fostering dependence and complacency, where students might rely too heavily on machines for decision-making or problem-solving. With proper safeguards in place, AI can be harnessed as a powerful ally in education rather than a potential distraction. Personal information, once considered private, must also be protected from

sophisticated cyberattacks that could exploit vulnerabilities in technology and society. Strengthening cybersecurity measures is vital—not only to safeguard student data but also to maintain trust in an increasingly automated educational landscape.

In a setting where ignorance about AI's implications could hinder learning, embracing knowledge becomes paramount. Understanding how AI functions, recognizing its limitations, and evaluating its impact on education empower students and educators to make informed choices. The human touch must remain central to technology’s evolution at MOGCHS, ensuring that as AI advances, the values of empathy, wisdom, and shared experiences are prior-

itized. By fostering a balanced relationship with AI, the MOGCHS community can harness its potential while preserving what makes the educational experience truly unique and impactful.

Price of Ignorance

Misinformation threatens more than just individual choices; it weakens the trust that holds society together. It’s not easy to undo the effects of false information, but doing nothing is far worse. Everyone has a role to play in promoting truth and responsible sharing. Knowledge is more than a tool—it’s a safeguard against confusion and division in an age where truth is often under attack.

An increasing number of young people are turning to sugar dating as a way to solve financial problems. Due to the high cost of education, living expenses, and lack of job opportunities, many students feel forced into these relationships with older benefactors, or "sugar daddies" and "sugar mommies." However, while sugar dating provides immediate financial help, it also comes with risks, such as teenage pregnancy, which can negatively affect their future. them to negotiate safe prac tices like using condoms. This creates a dangerous situation that increases the risk of both teenage pregnancy and sexual ly transmitted infections (STIs).

Young women, especially students, often find themselves in a difficult situation. The money they receive from sugar dat ing helps them pay for school or their daily needs. How ever, these relationships are not just financial; they often involve emotional and physical aspects. This is where the problem of teenage pregnancy may occur; many sugar babies do not have access to proper sexual health education or contraception, increasing the possibilities of getting pregnant.

Without proper knowledge about safe sex and contraception, young people may engage in unprotected sex, leading to unintended pregnancies. Sugar babies are also in relationships where they might not have control over decisions about their bodies, making it hard for

there are no other ways to earn money. This desperation creates a cycle where poverty leads to risky relationships, which then lead to pregnancy and even more financial struggles. If these young women have to out of school due to pregnancy, their opportunities for a better life become even more limited. It is best to provide better financial support for stu dents and improving sexual health education. Programs that offer scholarships, grants, or part-time jobs can help students avoid the need for sugar dating. Also, teaching young people about safe sex and making contraception accessible can reduce the chances of teenage pregnancy. By tackling these root problems, it helps the youth avoid the risks of sugar dating and focus on building a better future. Life is a crossroad, and with every turn, we are faced with choices that shape our journey.

SABONG: The Clash of Ambitions

With an excuse to help the nation in the 2022 national elections, the famous tandem of the 'Tigre ng Norte at Agila ng Davao'— Ferdinand "Bongbong" Macos Jr. and Sara Duterte, symbolized the union of political forces under the banner of "unity". Their UniTeam campaign emphasized cooperation, promising to transcend political rivalries, and to open a new era of stability and progress. However, in just less than 2 years into their term, that unity has been tainted exposing the deep-seated differences and conflict of ambitions between Marcos and Duterte.

What began a successful partnership delivering Marcos and Duterte to their seats today has developed into a public discord. The rift first became apparent when Duterte resigned from her posts in Marcos's Cabinet which includes her role as the Department of Education Secretary, sparkling questions about the union's future. Duterte said that her resignation was due to professional reasons, but she didn't explain everything, suggesting personal dissatisfaction within the administration.

One major reason for this conflict is the tense relationship between Marcos and Duterte's father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. The former President has publicly criticized the current administration for its plans to amend the constitution, accusing it of attempting to remove term limits to secure more power. However, his ac- cusations did not stopped here, he has also implied that Marcos engages in drug use, turning the conflict into a personal attack.

Tensions escalated when Sara Duterte, despite being Marcos's Vice President, participated in rallies that criticized the government's policies. Her apparent support for her father's political opponents, drew the ire of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos who publicly expressed her disappointment with the Dutertes. This marked a clear break from the unity they had shown during the campaign.

It's Unity campaign which initially celebrated by many for it's strategic brilliance despite it's idea to shift a divide politics to a collaborative government their unity did not endure. Sara Duterte has now distanced herself from the Marcos camp, declaring she would no longer work with them in future election. Meanwhile, the Marcos administration faces pressure to consolidate its power independently, especially as both camps eye the 2028 presidential race.

This serves as a reminder for every Filipino, voters and non-voters to be wise on the votes or the support they give as this shift from partnership to rivalry suggests that the Uniteam was more of a tactical move for electoral success than a long-term union

Beyond Poverty Line

Libreng mangarap pero pangarap ay di libre. In 2023, the national poverty incidence among Filipino families was recorded at 10.9 percent, equivalent to 2.99 million families lacking sufficient income to meet their basic food and non-food needs and according to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) it was estimated that 8% of college students are working while studying. With this being said, it is crystal clear how poverty is the cage that keeps dreams from taking flight.

Students from low-income families often lack access to educational resources such as technologies like computers and internet which are significant to today's evolving world. Aside from this, poverty also leads to poor nutrition and health problems, which can affect a student's ability to concentrate, participate, and maintain consistent attendance. Financial pressures most likely push students to leave school early, either to work and help the family or the inability to afford education.

However, it is natural for humans to be resilient when facing adversity, this is why there are students who work while studying. Working students often struggle with time management because they have to balance both their job and their studies. Both work and school take up a lot of time and attention, which can be overwhelming. It’s hard to fit everything into a schedule when work hours don’t always match up with class times, and finding a good balance can be challenging. With limited free time, students might find it tough to manage stress and keep up with both work and school. This can also mean less time for studying, which can affect their grades and the quality of their work.

Balancing work and school can also increase stress and make you feel physically and mentally drained. When you're trying to manage a job along with your studies, you often face constant pressure from deadlines and responsibilities in both areas. This may lead to feeling overwhelmed and tired, both mentally and physically. Students might struggle with lack of sleep, poor concentration, and feelings of anxiety or burnout. As a result, their energy levels drop, and it becomes harder to stay focused and motivated, im-

pacting your performance in both your job and your classes.

However, if managed well, studying while working can help build valuable skills like time management and multitasking, which can make them more organized and efficient. Working while studying also provides practical experience that can enhance their understanding of what you learn in class, making studies more relevant and applicable. Most especially, earning money through a job can reduce financial stress and help them manage personal expenses, which can make education more affordable. Plus, balancing both work and studies can give them a head start in their career by developing their work ethic and professional skills as early as now.

The society could make a bottom-down approach to lessen poverty and working students, this should start from the educational institution itself, like Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), they can help their students by implementing a range of supportive measures. For example, to address the technology gap, the school could enhance its educational resources by providing access to computers and high-speed internet. Supportive programs, including tutoring and counseling, would help students manage academic and personal challenges more effectively.

Aside from that, with the help of the government, it is important to strengthen economic growth by boosting agricultural productivity as it helps increase food supply and stability considering that this is one of our nation's powerhouse; we should enhance what we already have. Increasing job opportunities and making education more affordable can also improve living conditions. And most especially, managing population growth through family planning ensures that resources are better allocated, supporting sustainable development.

While poverty may suppress dreams, but with education and support, they can unlock their full potential. Together, let’s provide the tools and opportunities that help every student rise above their circumstances and soar towards their future.

Whether this fallout will benefit or harm the nation in the long run remains to be unseen; it is time to stop acting like a slave, in this evolving world ignorance has no space.

Mental Maze Breaking Mental Health Stigma in Schools

Despite growing conversations about mental health, the stigma surrounding it remains a shadow that lingers, often in places we least expect.

It’s no secret that school can be stressful. Between assignments, exams, social pressures, self doubt and the constant balancing act of academic and personal life, students today face more than just numbers on a report card—they face a silent battle with their own minds. Yet, even as discussions around mental health become more common, the stigma attached to it persists, especially within the walls of our classrooms.

For many students, mental health challenges are an unseen burden. Anxiety, depression, and burnout are often dismissed as “just stress” or “a phase” by those who may not understand the intensity of what these young people are enduring. The pressure to perform, to be perfect, and to conform to expectations is immense, and when a student struggles, they are often met with dismissive comments or, worse, judgment. Imagine a student who wakes up every day feeling a heaviness that makes even the thought of wattending class overwhelming. Instead of seeking help, they worry about what their peers will think, what their teachers might say, or if they will be labeled as “weak” or “overdramatic.” The stigma surrounding mental health issues means that, too often, these students suffer in silence, afraid to speak up or seek the support they need.

This silence is dangerous. Research shows that untreated men tal health issues can severely impact academic performance and lead to a host of long-term consequences, from chronic illness to dropping out of school altogether. Yet, the fear of being judged or misunderstood keeps many students from reaching out, cre ating a cycle of isolation and struggle. What can we do to change this? It begins with education and em pathy. Educational institution must fos ter environments where students feel safe to talk about their mental health without fear of being judge. This could

mean training teachers to recognize signs of mental distress, integrating mental health education into the curriculum, or creating support systems that are accessible and judgment-free.

As students, peers, and educators, we have a role to play in breaking down these barriers. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it’s time we treated it that way. The first step is simple but powerful: listening without judgment, speaking with kindness, and understanding that everyone has their battles, even if they are not always visible.

Let us start through conversations, offering support, and refusing to perpetuate the stigma, we can help ensure that no student ever has to feel alone in their battles. It’s time to break the silence and create a community where seeking help is seen not as a sign of weakness, but as a courageous step toward healing. I believe our main purpose in this world is healing and reaching our full potential. So let us be emphatic and fullfil our purpose.

Senator Robin Padilla receives backlash from the Filipino citizens after his remarks about marital sex last August 15, 2024 on a Senate Probe that was meant to discuss TV networks' policies in handling cases of sexual abuse. His intention might be for the better but his used of words is not very appropriate making the public misinterpret him. No means no, even within the bounds of marriage. Marriage is a lifetime partnership,

According to the Family Code of the Philippines, mutual respect should be given in marriage this includes the right for either the spouses to refuse physical intercourse, wether the reason is valid or not, this must be respected. However, not all are aware of this, in fact, as stated by the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 17.5% of Filipino women aged 15-49 have experienced any form of physical, sexual, and emotional violence from their intimate partners. Potentionally, these victims might not be aware of their rights or what they are experiencing are already against the law. This is why it is important for the public to listen to these kind of sensitive topics, so they could be aware of what they can do in such situation.

In a Facebook statement on Friday, August 16, 2024, Sen. Padilla said sorry to netizens, as he reiterated that it's his responsibility as chair of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media to ensure that all sides are informed about the topic. He clarified that he only want to

Fame to Function: Choose Wisely

raise awareness to the public especially for men so they'd know what to do incase their wives does not want to have physical intimacy but the backlash did not end with that after his wife posted a picture of them being quite intimate with a caption "May consent yan ha" and Padilla's comment "In heat ako ngayon babe" which offended the people. There's nothing wrong with his intentionto raise awareness, but his insensitive comment, and unclear statements during the Senate Probe is implying disrespect to victims of marital rape, human rights, and gender inequality.

The society might instilled that it is the wife's duty to submit her body to her husband and serve him but the law clearly stated that in marriage there should be mutual respect and love. It is better for the country and its countrymen's future if these old mindsets that can no longer cope with the changes would also slowly dissapear from the people's system. In order to do so, institution like educational institution must help the young generation to understand these kinds of topics and their rights.

Sen. Padilla mentioned the reality of marriage,

noting that men often experience different kind of sexual desire, and when these desires are not met, some may turn to infidelity. This is also use as a basis for seeking annulment, which raises important concerns about the expectations placed on intimacy within a marriage. Intimacy should not be seen as an obligation or responsibility in marriage. Viewing it as a duty can lead to unhealthy dynamics where one partner feels pressured to meet the other's desires, potentially reducing the relationship to a mere pursuit of physical pleasure.

Marriage isn't just about sexual intimacy; it's about love, trust, and respect between two people. Being close to your partner in this way should come naturally, not because you feel it's your duty. Sexual intimacy is not something you owe to your partner. Even in marriage, you have the right to say "no," and that "no" must always be respected. Consent is important, and it doesn't change just because you're married. A strong marriage is built on understanding and respecting each other's choices, not on fulfilling obligations.

The society might instill the idea that it is the wife's duty to submit her body to her husband and serve him, but the law clearly states that in marriage there should be mutual respect and love.

In a democratic society like the Philippines, the rise of candidates from entertainment and social media raises concerns about whether fame is being prioritized over competence. The candidacy of influencers and celebrities reflects a troubling trend where political power is granted based on popularity rather than qualifications, jeopardizing effective governance. Historically, the Philippines has seen numerous celebrities elected to public office, often facing criticism for underperformance. Recent candidacies, such as those of content creators Rosemarie “Rosmar” Tan Pamulaklakin and Deo “Diwata” Balbuena, have further fueled public skepticism. Despite their claims to help vulnerable groups like senior citizens and vendors, many citizens worry these individuals lack the necessary experience and knowledge for public service. Public distrust in politicians is compounded by rampant corruption. The contrast between high standards for ordinary job applica

tions and the lax criteria for political candidacy is alarming. While rigorous qualifications contribute to rising unemployment, this scrutiny is absent in the political arena, allowing individuals with minimal qualifications to occupy significant leadership roles. If the trend of electing influencers continues, the Philippines risks undermining its future, particularly for the next generation of learners. Students at institutions like Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School are the future leaders of the country; they must understand the importance of choosing qualified candidates who possess the expertise and dedication to governance.

Predatory Romance

Teacher's Romance Sparks Controversy

Teacher Benedict Mary Ambos, receives backlash from netizens, due to his now deleted facebook post where he shared their so called "romantic" love story with his former student, now his wife.

“Age is just a number” is a popular phrase, but it seems Ambos took it to heart, considering his wife was once his Grade 5 student. The revelation of their 36-year age gap has sparked public outrage and concern. Many have labeled the situation as grooming, emphasizing the potential dangers such relationships pose. If not addressed, this could normalize such dynamics for their children and society at large, potentially leading to troubling outcomes. The lack of accountability in these cases may encourage others with similar intentions, perpetuating a cycle of harm. In his post, Ambos nostalgically reflected, “Who would

have thought that the person I sat beside in this class picture is now my wife, and we will have cute children together?” He also added, “God works in wonders,” which further fueled the anger and concern among the online community. Teachers play a pivotal role in their students’ lives, often becoming second parents and vital role models. It is disheartening when that trust is broken, as educators are meant to guide and nurture young minds, not exploit them. When boundaries are crossed, it transforms a mentor into a predator, shattering the very foundation of education that should be built on respect and safety.

Parents have a crucial role in safeguarding their children from grooming. Open communication is essential; parents should regularly check in with their kids about their experiences at school, including whether any teacher or adult is trying to form an inappropriate connection with them. It’s vital to encourage children to speak up and to take immediate action by reporting any concerning behavior to school administrators or relevant authorities. Allowing individuals with harmful intentions to influence the lives of children can jeopardize their futures. These young people are the hope of our nation, and their protection is paramount. This situation also raises important questions about the ethical responsibilities of educators and the systems designed to protect students. Schools must implement strict policies regarding teacher-student relationships and ensure that training programs emphasize the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries. By fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within educational institutions, schools can create an environment where students feel safe to report inappropriate behavior. Taking proactive measures to safeguard children not only protects their well-being but also reinforces the trust that is so crucial in the teacher-student relationship. Ultimately, everyone shares the responsibility of ensuring that schools remain a safe haven for learning and growth, free from exploitation.

To ensure a bright future, voters must critically evaluate candidates beyond their public personas. Prioritizing competence and leadership abilities in elections will help restore faith in public institutions. Strengthening voter education and civic awareness is essential, empowering citizens to make informed decisions and hold elected officials accountable. By doing so, we can ensure that the government prioritizes effective leadership over mere popularity, ultimately shaping a better future for all Filipinos.

Beyond the scales of their labels

Overweight individuals often face relentless scrutiny that extends beyond body shape. This pervasive phenomenon affects everyone, everywhere, making it a shared struggle in our society.

As a child, I struggled with self-acceptance, constantly compared to more petite peers. Their hurtful words left lasting imprints on my mind, leading me to abandon dreams of modeling. Instead, I channeled my energy into academics and fashion, hoping to divert attention from my insecurities. It’s challenging for a young girl to grapple with weight issues, often feeling the need to suppress her appetite to conform to societal expectations. In the end, I chose to focus on my achievements, hoping to be recognized for my intellect rather than my appearance. Many people experience body shaming. You’re often labeled as either overweight, underweight, or simply “too dark”, which can leave you feeling like you can’t win. Each label comes with its own set of judgments and biases, further complicating our self-worth.

Teenagers, in particular, are especially vulnerable to the damaging

effects of societal expectations and peer pressure during their formative years and the rise of social media has intensified these pressures, as trends dictate what is deemed beautiful, creating a toxic comparison culture that undermines mental health and personal growth. Sadly, young people often find themselves trying to fit into ever-changing standards, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.

The pressure to maintain a certain appearance can be overwhelming. Many are expected to look their best at all times, which reinforces a a toxic culture that demands perfection. Furthermore, the stigma surrounding aging—stretch marks, wrinkles, and smile lines— adds another layer of complexity to the conversation. As society grapples with body positivity, we must recognize that aging is a natural process, and every mark tells a story of a life well-lived.

Actress Emma Stone succinctly captured the essence of this struggle, noting that no matter how society evolves, unrealistic beauty standards continue to prevail. Humans are often presented as perfect dolls rather than individuals who can move freely and happily in their skin. Our existence is shaped by life experiences and challenges that contribute to who we are as individuals.

By recognizing the harmful nature of comparison and judgment, we can work towards fostering a culture of acceptance and understanding. We all deserve respect and acceptance. It is essential to be mindful of how we speak about ourselves and others, as our words can have a profound impact..

Thank you for your concerns about the MATATAG Curriculum. It’s vital to prioritize student well-being and effective learning. We welcome ongoing discussions on improving our education system.

TRANSPORT MODERNIZATION

Driving Change vs Driving Away

In a rapidly changing world, where modernization, inflation, and the declining value of the peso weigh heavily on our daily lives, it's no wonder that many Filipinos are cautious about their expenses. The jeepney, our beloved and iconic mode of transport, has been the backbone of commuting for millions. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a symbol of Filipino ingenuity and resilience. So, when the government announced plans to phase out jeepneys in favor of a modernization program, it ignited a wave of discontent among citizens. Is this change truly a threat to our culture and livelihoods, or could it pave the way for a brighter future?

The war on drugs in the Philippines, initiated by former President Rodrigo Duterte, left an indelible mark on the nation. The campaign aimed to reduce drug users, but its aggressive tactics led to the deaths of many, particularly in poorer communities. While some saw this as a necessary measure to curb crime, others condemned it as a brutal and inhumane approach. It sparked a divisive debate, leaving the country questioning the true cost of security when lives were taken without due process.

Current President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has voiced opposition to this violent

method, calling for a more humane way to address the drug problem. His stance reflects a growing concern among Filipinos about the value of human life and the need for justice. However, despite this shift, the country remains split. Some view Duterte’s methods as effective, while others argue that it compromised the nation’s moral integrity, leaving communities in fear and distrust of authorities. There is also a misconception that the war on drugs primarily targeted the poor because they were seen as the majority of drug users. This narrative unfairly stigmatises vulnerable populations, ignoring

the fact that drug abuse knows no socioeconomic boundaries. The focus should be on addressing the root causes of addiction and providing support systems, rather than perpetuating harmful stereotypes and inflicting violence on the marginalized. The government must pursue justice with fairness, upholding human rights for all. It is essential to address crime and addiction, but not at the cost of dehumanizing the very citizens it seeks to protect. A more compassionate approach to the drug problem, one that treats addiction as a health issue rather than a criminal one, is the path to a more just and unified society.

MATATAG CURRICULUM: Effectiveness over Efficiency

As someone who grew up relying on jeepneys to get to school, I can’t help but feel a deep sadness for the drivers who might lose their jobs in this transition. For many of them, driving a jeepney is not just a job; it’s their lifeline. The proposed phase-out raises serious questions about the impact on their livelihoods, especially in a time when inflation is already stretching their finances thin. The government aims to tackle pollution and enhance commuter safety with this modernization, but at what cost to the individuals who have dedicated their lives to this service?

I’ve spoken with numerous jeepney drivers, and their stories resonate deeply with me. Many of them struggle to make ends meet, and their current income barely covers their daily expenses. The new, modern jeepneys are not only more expensive; they are often out of reach for those who have devoted their lives to this work. Phasing out traditional jeepneys could mean pushing thousands of drivers into unemployment, leaving them with few alternatives for earning a living.

Now, I’m not against modernization—far from it. Embracing progress is essential for our country’s growth. However, we must ensure that this progress doesn’t come at the expense of those who have long provided essential services to our communities. The government needs to listen to the concerns of drivers and take actionable steps to support them. This could include providing assistance for those looking to transition to modern jeepneys or offering alternative employment opportunities.

We need to approach this issue holistically, advocating for a plan that prioritizes inclusivity and sustainability. By fostering open dialogue between drivers and policymakers, we can find solutions that ensure no one is left behind.

This isn’t just about transportation; it’s about the people behind the wheel—the hardworking individuals who deserve our empathy and support. It’s about ensuring that the transition to modernity doesn’t erase the rich tapestry of our culture or the struggles of our fellow citizens.

As we navigate these changes, let’s commit to a vision that considers the needs of everyone involved. If we can find common ground, we might just turn this moment of uncertainty into an opportunity for growth, not just for our public transport system, but for the future of our nation. Together, we can create a public transport system that is not only efficient and modern but also fair and inclusive—one that honors our past while paving the way for a better tomorrow.

The “MATATAG Curriculum” was launched on August 10, 2023 to be implemented starting the school year 2024-2025 by the Department of Education (DepEd). It aims to enhance academic performance by adding new sets of subjects and a time span of 45 minutes for each subject. Although it is more time efficient and productive, some students may differ due to the sheer exhaustion that comes with this new learning system. It is not the right decision of the government to implement this new learning system because of the setbacks and negative reviews that it brought and will further bring in the future.

There have been many discussions across the internet of students complaining about the unrealistic time that the MATATAG curriculum requires. The main topic of this complaint is the lack of time that students have in doing their hobbies and maintaining a proper sleep schedule. This complaint also stems from educators who are also facing difficulties in adjusting to the new schedules set for their teaching.

There are also students who use public transportation that have to face the problem of coming home late and risking their safety with how late they commute. On average, commuters take 15 minutes to an hour daily to commute, which is 1.25 hours to 5 hours weekly. This does not include the time span of the waiting queue and may change depending on how far or near the students’ houses are. This also adds to the previous problem of not getting enough sleep. If it takes them multiple hours to commute, and another few hours to complete house chores and take-home school activities, how much time would they have left for sleep if an average student needs 8 to 10 hours of sleep to fully function well?

Adding subjects that students are unfamiliar with will take them a more difficult adjustment period, especially if they are in higher grade levels or are near graduation. Most of the subjects that were added to the curriculum can either be learned naturally or can still be found in the regular curriculum that they were used to. So, not only does it waste time, it also overwhelms the students’ minds in trying to comprehend new subjects that they are not used to.

It would take lesser time to tackle each subject with this new curriculum because

of the 45 minute time per subject. This is an ineffective teaching method because some subjects require ample time to thoroughly discuss and digest each lesson with great detail. It also exhausts educators who are adjusting to the new curriculum and the new subjects that they are unfamiliar with and/or lack training in.

The MATATAG curriculum still holds importance in the sense that it strengthens and pushes the capabilities of the students. It gives them more time to explore beyond their usual learning activities, pushes them to do more tasks, and improve time management with the additional school hours that were given to them. Contrary to the important points that this curriculum gives, the negatives of this problem still outweighsthe positives.

Bringing back the old curriculum that students and educators are used to should lessen these problems. The education system should focus more on improving and advancing the lessons and subjects that it already has instead of adding new ones to learn from scratch, and keeping the students hooked and focused on discussions to avoid the need of extended time for education to be more successful. Growing up in a city that shines golden, mundane days are forgotten. A lively place to be; friendship is visible, as is the legacy that runs as hereditary.

A single sound of drums being hit and lyres keeping the beat signifies a lively scene, where the vicinity is draped with vibrant colours of banderitas in every corner of the streets, various souvenirs on the sidewalks, live bands here, concerts there, and parades everywhere.

As the calendar turns its page to August, the salt air and rust on your door cling to the spirit of the month-long Higalaay Festival in Cagayan de Oro, the City of Golden Friendship. On the 2nd of August 2024, the Grand Launching of the much-an

The feast is a pivotal reminder of thanksgiving and showcases every Kagay-anon’s enduring talents, which further bask in the radiant glow of the city’s rich culture and history. Behind the cameras of every witness, the loud splash and dazzling hues that engulfed the sky during the pyro musical fireworks competition, the comely visuals of every Miss Cagayan de Oro pageant contestant, and the masked street dancers performing under the bright rays of the sun serve as reminders of how CDO captivates the heart of both locals and tourists.

From a young age, every hum TJ made created a tune symbolizing his passion for music.

Graduating with a degree in Developmental Communication from Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan, TJ started working as a radio personality in CDO before sunrise, later transitioning into a host for a local regional show. His burning desire and tenacious spirit

ignited a torch within him. In 2012, TJ uploaded his original song “Ikaw at Ako,” which sparked countless emotions. How could a single song bring such lifelong fulfillment? Looking back, TJ has gone beyond expectations, driven by talent, determination, and pure passion.

On the 16th of September 2023, TJ and his family opened the doors to their very own DIY Korean Ramyun House, located along Corrales Avenue in Cagayan de Oro. The cozy four corners of the place have since welcomed customers with the appetizing aroma of delicious ramyeon, buzzing with the promise of satisfying hunger.

On the 27th of August, the loud cheers and deafening excite-

Always, in all ways, he has tasted the sweet success along with the people, especially the Kagay-anons who uplifted and supported his passion all the way to its success.

The once soft whisper of tunes in the wind has created a turning point in TJ’s life, resulting in his career’s rise.

Bright rays, better days

More than just words and actions, the City of Golden Friendship lives up to its name. With its gates wide open to everyone, Kagay-anons embody the warmth and kindness of a true friend. For instance, during the cool morning breeze that embraces those preparing for another long day

at work or school, jeepney drivers greet passengers with a smile, earning “brownie points” for starting the day with kindness. Laughter echoes in Divisoria Plaza, bright lights and lively conversations fill Cogon nights, and the catchy sound of a student’s speak-

er as they dance along MacArthur conveys the city's sense of peace and ease. Numerous hurdles have occurred in the past, but the assurance from the devoted police force in Cagayan de Oro City plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety

and security of every Kagay-anon, whether local or tourist. Through numerous measures entwined with the community’s cooperation, a dash of flame will remain in the city to sustain and obtain a lifelong Golden Friendship.

Hard work will pay off, but at what cost?

In the Philippines, where people have to pour their blood, sweat, and tears to make ends meet, it depicts that a single drop of tear can't easily bear the obstacles of every worker. Segundino Pancito, a father of four, clinches the day by working at Gaisano in Cagayan de Oro. His tenacity as an employee doesn't equate to his salary. Enough will always be enough. "When you're an employee, no matter how hard you try, your income will always be fixed," his son said.

Bearing a family means the need to strive and arrive at work, showing up to have a spoonful of nutritious food to feed his family and to pay for his children's tuition at a private school, gearing them with a quality education and providing them with opportunities.

At 30 years old, a gentle whisper in his ear mentioned that a space in the wet market of Cogon was for sale. An idea immediately popped into his mind, like a bulb gleaming with light. To purchase the space, he had to sell their fishing boat in Bohol, Philippines.

In the chaos of the vicinity, Segundino was able to start a life in business. From only selling two sacks of rice and restocking another once the other was sold, his little and simple store grew to have more than just two sacks of rice. It started from there, and it won't just end here. In 2016, he retired from his work and had his son take over their business.

Bryan Pancito, at the age of 32, started to handle their business. Through his father's sweat and his mother's calloused hands, he, along with his siblings, graduated with a diploma that can't easily be attained. Bryan graduated from Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan with Agri-Business as his course, a great helping hand in managing their business in the wet market.

Now, at 39, Bryan has been able to boost their store and manage to sell more than just sacks of rice. At 4:30 a.m., he and his wife start their day by opening their store, having countless customers purchase their high-quality sacks of rice. Bryan was able to provide for his family with his wife's help as well. Having three children to feed, he was able to serve them a platter, not just to fill their famished stomachs after a long day at school, but also with love that shows from their sacrifices as parents.

When the clock strikes 7:30, it signals the time to lock up their store and rest, restoring energy for the next day. The Pancitos' business grew alongside Bryan's fidgeting dreams for his children— through their business, he was able to save up for his children’s studies to give them a secure future and an education they could nurture.

In a country that is akin to innumerable layers of an onion, beliefs, rich culture, and vibrant people are just some of the things that mask prevalent issues beneath. Pulling down individuals who are trying to rise above their circumstances is not far from having a Crab Mentality, also known as the "no matter what happens, a new person will replace you" mindset.

In a city where people have to run alongside the spinning time of an analog watch, the crashing waves hitting the firm sand, and the sun’s bright rays peeking through the bedroom window is a silent reminder that the world won’t stop revolving despite all the stumbling blocks along the intricate pathway to success.

Crab Mentality can be observed in various ways throughout Philippine society: in the workplace, in schools, in politics, and even on social media. The roots of Crab Mentality can be traced back to Spanish rule; they pitted the indigenous population against one another to maintain control, and now it has left a lasting impact on Filipino culture, creating a culture of competition and distrust.

Backstabbing, sabotaging, jealousy, and a reluctance to celebrate each other's successes—the Philippines is now stifled with innovation, discouraged, and hindered in its economic growth. AI is a tool. It is meant to sit in the hands of a living, breathing human, and is meant to bend to their will. Artificial intelligence stays subservient to its master's palms. Like everything in existence, there will always be downsides to it. As the saying goes; good cannot exist without bad.

Everything that will happen due to AI is a change that naturally happens as the information age develops—utilizing machinery and turning them into assistants at the beck and call of their creators will assist and push humans farther, farther than what people can achieve today.

Machines are made to make people's lives more comfortable, just like how the internet did before. Its purpose is to assist humans in solving everyday issues and maximizing efficiency. In the end, AI WILL BE THE END— —of the old era.

Dis-Tech that rocks

Have you ever wondered how the dysfunction connects?

In our realm, technology always stands beyond. Disability Technology, or Assistive Technology, is shaping the future of accessibility. Empowering people with disabilities todo incredible things, unlocking new possibilities.

The development of Smart Wheelchairs for example, has allowed individuals with weakened mobility to navigate their environment with more ease and freedom.

Additionally, Exoskeletons, which are like wearable robots that’s designed to assist people with mobility impairments, are also being used in rehabilitation, allowing individuals to regain lost function and improve overall quality of life.

Over 2.5 billion people around the globe rely on these assistive products, like wheelchairs, hearing aids or communication apps to help them live their best lives.

However, despite the vast need, nearly one billion people are denied access to assistivetechnology, specifically in low and middle income countries. This access gap highlights acritical challenge that needs to be addressed to ensure fair access to these life changingtechnologies.

The lack of access to these assistive technologies are often caused by several factors, including the cost of advanced assistive technology, which can be excessively high, especially in low income countries where healthcare budgets are often strained.

Disability Technology has the potential to empower individuals with disabilities and promote their inclusion in society. Even so the access gap is still a huge challenge faced by people with needs. Raising awareness about the benefits of

leading to MOGCHS exhibiting remarkable recognition, securing the ultimate triumph—taking the Overall Champion. Their victory served as a spark of their efforts throughout the event, marking their dedication and efforts.

Climaquest stands more than just building prototypes but it also promotes deeper understanding about the environmental events around the world. In a way where students are likely to engage in handson activities and insightful workshops—ClimaQuest empowers to become an advocate for individuals to equip a deeper knowledge

disability technology and promoting its use can help to reduce discrimination associated with disability and Many assistive devices also require custom modifications to meet individual needs, and that increases the cost.

However, limited awareness about the availability and benefits of disability technology can contribute to the access gap encourage greater access.

Several strategies are in progress. For example, in India the government has launched a program to provide wheelchairs to people with disabilities. In many countries, non-profit organizations are working to make affordable alternatives.

However, despite the vast need, nearly one billion people are denied access to assistive technology, specifically in low and middle income countries. This access gap highlights a critical challenge that needs to be addressed to ensure fair access to these life changing technologies.

The lack of access to these assistive technologies are often caused by several factors, including the cost of advanced assistive technology, which can be excessively high, especially in low income countries where healthcare budgets are often strained.

Hack Track:

Cracks & Attacks

From phone lines to cyber wars: hacking has come a long way.

Bruce Sterling notes in The Hacker Crackdown that it all began in 1878, when telephone operators exploited gaps in new phone lines. By the 1960s, “phreakers” used high-pitched tones to hack telephone systems, a practice detailed by Ron Rosenbaum in Secrets of the Little Blue Box.

Early computers, like PDP-10, successfully managed to give a lead to modern cyber activities. According to Eugene H. Spafford, “The Internet Worm Program” allowed the techno-savvy to investigate and alter things. As these activities began to get more sophisticated, so did their ethical and social implications. While early exploits on phone systems fired the guns of privacy concerns, the Morris Worm of 1988 underlined the developing need for cybersecurity. The 1995 film Hackers gave the public an impression of what such intrusions are like, and the 2000 ILOVEYOU virus brought viruses and malware into the general consciousness. The 2007 Estonian cyber attack showed national vulnerability; see Ian Traynor, “Russia Accused of Unleashing Cyberwar to Disable Estonia.” The 2013 leaks by Edward Snowden gave rise to debates about government surveillance; see Glenn Greenwald, No Place to Hide. And in the wake of the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack, conversations about cybersecurity and ethics continue.

All these activities also carry serious threats of data breaches, cyber war, and identity theft; according to Ross J. Anderson, the need for robust security systems is at an all-time high. Ethical hackers have come up with improvements. They locate weaknesses and look for a way to patch them up, therefore developing technology and security, according to Robert Lemos, White Hat Hackers: Cybersecurity’s Unsung Heroes. With high awareness about cyber threats, security measures and standards have also been developed, so says Ross J. Anderson in Security Engineering.

Overall, a number of technological and societal impacts of such actions range from casual exploits to sophisticated cyber threats. As technology evolves, so too do both the challenges and opportunities. Continuous innovation in cybersecurity and ethical practices will be required in order for the evolving threats to be kept at bay and to ensure a secure future.

SCI-MAZING INTELLIGENCE
Words by Rhylee Bangga

Source of Data Course

All things come with a history that makes them intack to the present times, drive through a journey to make intelligence using intelligence.

Scientists began to work out the possibility that machines could perform tasks usually requiring human intelligence as early as the beginning of the 20th century, it was then that the first creation of artificial intelligence (AI) would happen.

According to the Harvard University Education and Britannica It wasn’t until the 1950s that artificial intelligence as a field started to take its current shape. Early on, scientists had developed the first Artificial Intelligence systems to mimic human thinking, enabling robots to do pattern recognition, solve problems, and make decisions.

These early simple systems, make way in the foundation for more advanced technology in the following years. Decades later, the AI field would grow by researchers coming up with new innovations and algorithms to explore AI applications in the mediums such as computer vision and natural language processing. Each innovation followed the previous ones, further extending the possibilities of AI.

AI has become a tool in everyday life, to the point it reached these inventions, driving personal assistive and recommendation engines, along with self-driving cars and intelligent robots. The field is advancing at an extremely high speed, with continuous breakthroughs that form the future of technology.

Despite its current situation, the foundation of AI remains rooted in the early explorations of computer scientists who first envisioned machines capable of human-like thinking and learning.

It is a testament to the power of human engineering and its quest to create a machine capable of understanding and interacting with the world.

Volt Your Ride! A spark to change

The world continuously evolves and technology constantly escalates, until this af fects the urbanization of Transportations. Philippine trans portations can innovate to a more efficient and sustainable mobility. Will it spark a transport revolution in the country?

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have become a global access for every citizen, and the Philippines is no exemption. People ride the traditional vehicles to arrive safely, just like tricycles and the traditional Jeepney. While still in its nascent stages, this gained allure to the government, especially the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) in 2022 that marked a several milestone to provide a framework promotion to EVs.

The goal of contributing to the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), one of the top priorities of the government, is the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization Program. Not only does this affect the improvement of the country, but this also helps the environmental issues that

combustion engine vehicles with electric alternatives, the Philippines can significantly reduce its carbon footprint and improve air quality. Aside from these, EV offers long-term savings due to lower maintenance and fuel expenses. The Jeepney+ NAMA of the Philippines Government will serve as a significant model for transforming public transport in this country. Cebu, the second-largest city in the Philippines, is developing its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, which is designed to provide a high-capacity, efficient, and reliable mode of transportation. Developing countries need to undertake a lot of efforts to consider first to formalize and

approve as the public transportation innovates gradually. However, these challenges can unveil a much more present and pleasing environment for growth as generation evolves, and economic growth should be considered. The Philippines should quit being dependent on its imported fossil fuels and build a greener, low-carbon transportation network. We aren’t stuck in one generation only; everyone yearns for a change. While the journey continues to approach nationwide, and its complex trials to change can be heavy, individuals should consider a much more sustainable and resilient environment by developing urban mobility. The wheels of innovation are turning—ready to redefine the journey for generations to come.

AI’s New Wave

From Technology to Shaping Jobs

Technology is far more beyond its limits as human brains can create more than above its level. In the Philippines, this stands a crucial part in the workforce as this opens to better opportunities.

On July 15, 2024, a recent study released by Microsoft Corp. and LinkedIn on May 23 showed that the Philippines exceeded the global average for AI use in workplaces, with 86% of Filipino knowledge workers incorporating AI into their work. An outstanding 92% of employees are already using AI technologies for their everyday work.

In the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector, which has been a long cornerstone of the Philippine economy, AI is making a significant impact. Historically dependent on human labor for customer support, data entry, and back-office tasks, the BPO industry is now adapting AI-driven solutions such as chatbots, robotic process automation (RPA), and machine learning algorithms.

For instance, chatbots powered by Natural Language Processing (NLP) are being used to handle routine customer inquiries, reducing response times and improving service quality. According to Mr. Gungadin at the meeting, Incentive

Travel, Conventions, Exhibitions, Conference (M.I.C.E Con 2024), “In the Philippines, there are people who are really early adopters who are actually excited with AI… I think leveraging the early adopters is the way to go about that at an organizational level,” To lessen the risk of Job Displacements, it is important for business institutions to consider the collaboration of upskilling and reskilling initiatives. Taking this is a big step to the economy as this affects a lot of factors and adjustments nationwide. Certain jobs that involve routine and repetitive tasks may become obsolete. It is crucial to train workers about the new generation of AI, so the transition of work wouldn’t be the face of technological difficulty.

AI continues to grow immensely, just like how technology grows rapidly. AI is not only a technological advancement; but also a help to improve the Philippines economy. Fueling a progress to its force, is a great foreshadow of

SEEDS OF PROMISE To weeds of greed

Once honored as a political figure, being a lawmaker from Cagayan de Oro City now faces its starkly different reality—a 10 year prison sentence for their role in a multi-million scam.

A fertilizer scam is a fraudulent scheme to people, involving the misuse or embezzle ment of funds intended to use for the purchase of fertilizers, usually for agriculture.

The Sandiganbayan has sentenced former representative Constantino Jaraula for its case of graft in connection with the 2004 fertilizer scam, receiving up to 10 years of imprisonment.

According to a 77-page decision that has been shown on July 8, 2024 in the court. As stated by the law in violation of Section 3 (e) of Republic Act 3019 or Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act that prohibits a public official from giving unwarranted benefits to a private party or from causing any party, including the government, undue injury.

the city and the national political landscapes. Farmers’ groups and anti-corruption advocates hailed the verdict as a victory for justice, with people pointing out that the scam affected some of the poorest communities in the country.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) regional officials said that, “It cannot be denied that they were the ones who facilitated the preparation of the requirements for the release of funds and despite their knowledge of insufficiency thereof.” The Second Division also added that, “Through their acts, PSDFI was able to get hold of the amount of P3,000,000 to the damage and prejudice of the government.”

Political analysts noted that the conviction is a significant win for anti-corruption efforts in the Philippines, where many high-profile cases often languish in court for years without resolution.

Justice will prevail in every moment—and this is an example. There are people that are seen as pleasing but have a dark behavior. Moving forward, the case underscores the need for stricter oversight, greater transparency, and more systems to safeguard public funds, ensuring that such schemes do not threaten the nation's progress again.

Agriculture Gains,Safety Reigns

Cagayan de Oro City, with its dazzling bridge lights reflecting across the midnight sky, is renowned for its rich culture and agriculture. Known for its courteous and hospitable people, the city is now leading a crucial initiative: food safety practices.

In alignment with Republic Act No. 10611, the "Food Safety Act of 2013," which mandates rigorous standards for food safety throughout production and distribution, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) recently conducted a comprehensive training session for farmer cooperatives and associations (FCAs). This act, detailed in the official government publication Republic Act No. 10611, outlines stringent measures to prevent contamination—chemical, physical, or microbiological—during the entire food supply chain.

Supported by the Enhanced Kadiwa financial grant, this training builds on the pivotal role FCAs played during the pandemic by revitalizing the Kadiwa market system. The Kadiwa initiative, as reported by DA-RFO 10, provided critical access to affordable food for Filipino households during a

time of great need. The recent training aims to ensure these cooperatives continue to meet high safety standards.

DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado emphasized the need for stringent safety standards, citing the importance of maintaining quality in food production to protect consumer health. Regional Technical Director Carlota S. Madriaga highlighted that these new skills could significantly enhance the global competitiveness of local products. Experts from the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) discussed Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), animal husbandry, and food safety, as outlined in their official guidelines.

In addition to this training, DA-RFO 10 is intensifying efforts to prevent the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1) in the region. Following confirmed cases in other parts of the country, the agency has issued strict guidelines on the movement of birds and poultry products to safeguard public health and the poultry industry. This measure aligns with the protocols outlined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), which provides international standards for avian influenza management.

Air of Despair

A gas that allows humanity to keep striving, might keep us deprived. An essential element of the Earth’s atmosphere and is necessary for the survival of most living organisms. However, despite its vital role in sustaining life, there are some potential dangers associated with oxygen in the specific context.

According to Sarasota County Wateratlas, Dissolved Oxygen(DO) is one of the prominent indicators of water quality yet the most significant hazard of oxygen is its toxicity when present in excess. This is more true for aquatic organisms, which may become subject to oxygen toxicity when the concentration of dissolved oxygen in water exceeds 100%. In these situations, high oxygen concentrations can interfere with the normal functions of the cells and tissues of the organism and have detrimental health effects, such as nervous system damage, muscle cramps, and even death.

Another danger associated with oxygen is that it supports combustion, as per the Bureau of Fire Protections, it can support its burning, since it is such a reactive gas, it can propagate and sustain fires with dangerous, even deadly, results. This alone could be most worrisome in an industrial setting where flammable materials and oxygen-rich environments combine to create hazardous situations.

In conclusion, while oxygen is a safe and essential gas that supports life on Earth, there are some potential dangers associated with its use or exposure in specific contexts or situations. It is crucial to understand and mitigate these risks to ensure the safe and ef-

PHILIPPINES’ QUEST

To the stars and beyond the rest

The Philippines, known for its beautiful archipelago and culture, is now setting its sights beyond the earth embarking on an exciting journey to the stars, positioning itself as a rising player in the global arena.

Space Exploration in the country began with the establishment of Philippines Space Agency (PhilSA) in 2019. This marked an essential movement as the country moves its way to advancing space capability. PhilSA’s mission is to harness space technology for national development, focusing on certain areas such as satellite communications, earth observation, and space science.

A significant milestone was achieved in 2018 with the launch of the Philippines’s first microsatellite, Diwata-1. This was designed to en-

hance disaster management and environmental monitoring through its imaging capabilities with the help of Japanese partners, then later on followed by Diwata-2 with an upgraded version of predecessor. This showcased the Philippines growing expertise and potential space technology.

Moreover, the country is engaging in international collaboration to boost its space capabilities. The country has engaged in partnership with different space agencies such as, Japan, United States, and other Nations. The Philippines is currently engaging to contribute on space exploration beyond the earth, including the potential missions to the moon and stars.

While the Journey to stars is promising, it is not without challenges. Building and main-

Save the wild simulator

The Philippines is one of the world’s most biodiverse countries, but it’s also home to a staggering number of endangered species. Critical natural processes that support life are disrupted. Can we stand or let them fall, as nature sends its urgent call? in marine ecosystems. These threats, combined with habitat loss, create a precarious future for many Philippine species.

Over 700 species are threatened, from the majestic Philippine eagle to the tiny Philippine mouse deer, our islands are home to a vibrant tapestry of life. But this biodiversity is under threat, and many of these species are vanishing at an alarming rate.

The World Wildlife Fund-Philippines is actively working to protect the Philippines’ unique wildlife, including critically endangered species like the Philippine Eagle and the Tamaraw. They are working to combat habitat loss, particularly deforestation, a major threat to the Philippines’ biodiversity.

Vast tracts of rainforest, mangrove forest, and coral reefs being cleared for agriculture, logging, and development. This loss of natural domain is pushing many species towards extinction. Their research highlights the alarming rate of habitat loss, which is a major threat to the survival of the iconic national animals like the Philippine Eagle, the Tamaraw and the Philippine Mouse-deer.

The threats to Philippines wildlife extend beyond deforestation. Pollution from plastic waste and agricultural runoff is a crucial threat to marine ecosystems, impact ing coral reefs and other vulnerable species. Climate change is altering weather patterns and ocean temperatures, affecting the habitats of many species and contributing to coral bleaching.

Unsustainable fishing, such as using dynamite, is depleting fish populations and disrupting the delicate balance

Beyond the Philippine Eagle and Tamaraw, other critically endangered species face a bleak future. The Visayan warty pig, once common throughout the central Philippines, is now restricted to only a few islands due to habitat loss and hunting. Supporting conservation organizations like WWF-Philippines, and reducing our own environmental impact are crucial steps. By raising awareness about the plight of endangered species, we can create a future where these animals can thrive for generations to come.

By taking actions and working together, we can make a difference. The Philippines’ rich biodiversity is a treasure that we must protect. Despite the challenges, there is still hope for these endangered species.

SPACEtacular Chat

Ever wonder how people communicate with astronauts in space?

Imagine an astronaut stranded on the International Space Station, needing urgent medical attention. How do they get help? It might seem like a simple task, communicating across the broad area of space presents unique challenges. But with modern technology, scientists and researchers have been able to overcome these obstacles and develop advanced systems for communicating with astronauts. Space communication is the way we talk to the stars. It uses radio waves to send messages across vast distances. It’s a vital tool for exploration, research and communication beyond.

In space communication lies a fundamental principle: radio waves. Radio waves are like cosmic messengers of space. They can travel through vacuum of space, carrying informations like voices, data, and even images. It’s how we stay connected to astronauts in orbit or get amazing pictures from the outside world.

Space communication is like a high-tech message relay, but with more cool and complex gadgets. A transmitter sends out radio signals, like a cosmic messenger, into space. These signals are

then focused by a powerful antenna, like a huge magnifying glass, to reach their target. On the receiving end, a receiver picks up the signals, like space-age ear, and converts them back to usable information. All of this happens through a Ground station, a dedicated facility on Earth that acts as the central hub for space communication. It’s like a game of tag space version, but with radios instead of running.

An astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS), needs to chat with Mission Control back on Earth. The astronaut’s voice is transformed into radio waves by a transmitter on the ISS then beamed towards Earth via a powerful antenna. A ground station on Earth receives these signals, converting them back into sound, allowing Mission Controls to hear the astronaut’s voice clearly.

Radio waves, even traveling at speed of light, weaken as they journey across vast distances, requiring powerful transmitters and sensitive receivers. Due to the finite speed of light, there’s noticeable delay in communication between Earth and spacecraft. This delay can be significant for mission far from Earth, making real-time conversations and critical decisions-making more challenging.

Despite these challenges engineers and scientists continue to develop new solutions to enhance

Rising Tides, Cities Fade.. Will sinking cities see a way to stay?

Climate Change accelerates as sea level rises around the globe. This calls to the attention of an urgent challenge: sinking, where this affects the factors around the world.

This occurrence may happen by a combination of rising oceans, subsiding lands, and human activities that risks millions of people and critical infrastructures worldwide. It is primarily a result of interconnected factors: sea level rise and land subsidence.

Land subsidence is defined as the “sudden sinking in the Earth’s Surface” that is caused by human activities such as extraction of water, oil, and mineral resources from the ground. Furthermore, the Philippines Climate Change Assessment report in 2016 said that sea level in Manila has been increasing at 1.33 millimeters per year since the 1900s.

In 2040, NAP predicts that around 160 square kilometers of land may be affected, including coastal areas such as Bulacan and Pampanga as this is where land subsidence occurs due to groundwater activities.

These issues are not rare in the Philippines. Flooding, land subsidence, and extreme flooding is almost certainly a natural disaster in this country. During the media launch of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction on August 22. The Defense Chief Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said that there are opportunities to share lessons to reduce risk reduction with Asia-Pacific nations.

The dialogue would hopefully open to access the funds, which Environment Secretary Toni-Yulo Loyzaga said could cover green and gray infrastructure. By addressing the issues that can possibly be the root of sea-level rise and investing in sustainable ways, cities around the country can work on a future where they are equipped to withstand the pressures of climate change.

This challenge is a stark reminder to everyone, as cities may sink in the future. Through image and time, lands can change overtime. To have forward-thinking is a need to create urban planning for every infrastructure in this globe and prevent challenges that may happen ahead. Tracing the land’s help, and to reveal the shifts that time will define.

space communication, to overcome limitations of traditional radio waves and ensuring reliable and timely communication for astronauts, researchers and space exploration. From its primary principals to its complex systems, it has become vital for modern space exploration. It enables scientific discoveries, guides spacecraft, and ensures mission safety. As we venture more into the cosmos, the need for faster and more reliable communication will be critical. Space communication will continue to connect humanity to the universe and expand our understanding and knowledge of outer space.

TWO MEDALS, ONE DREAM:

Yulo’s Olympics Golden Gleam

Bercy Arena, Paris —Carlos Yulo made history at the 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first Filipino to

Olympic season with an average score of 15.000 in the men’s floor exercise final and 15.116

Yulo, at the age of 24 years old set a milestone on August 3, 2024, after winning gold in his signature event in the Olympics. He waited three years to redeem his title after failing to reach the men’s floor exercise final in the previous Tokyo Games. Yulo scored an average score of 15.000 being the only male to get a 15-point mark, dominating seven other competitors.

"I just went for it, I didn't hesitate," Yulo remarked about his performance.

With a difficulty of 6.600 and an execution score of 8.400, Yulo showcased his potential and gave a clean routine with the highest difficulty level. Delving into his emotions after the shock, Yulo burst into tears after securing his victory; placing top over Artem Dolgopyat of Israel who placed silver with 14.966 points, while Jake Jarman of Great Britain earned bronze with 14.933 points.

Yulo expressed that he was overwhelmed and grateful for the medal, attributing his success to God's protection and strength. He mentioned that he felt God had given him the strength to perform well in the competition.

The day following his triumphant night, Yulo made headlines once more by clinching gold in the men’s vault event. He showcased a mix of high difficulty and precision, performing a piked Dragulescu—a vault with a 6.0 difficulty rating, one of only two such vaults—achieving an average score of 15.116.

Yulo scored 15.433 on his initial vault, performing a Ri Se Gwang—a front handspring double piked salto with a half twist—and followed up with a Kasamatsu double twist, which earned him 14.800 on his final vault. He achieved a difficulty score of 5.600 and an execution score of 9.200, demonstrating a routine that was both flawless and clean.

Despite his impressive performance, Yulo remained cautious, knowing that he, along with the other competitors, faced the threat of being overtaken by Artur Davtyan of Armenia. A former world champion and Tokyo silver medalist, posed a significant challenge, keeping the competition fierce and the stakes high.

Davtyan, however, had to settle for silver once again, as he earned only 14.966 points, with the Olympic gold continuing to elude him. Meanwhile, Great Britain's Harry Hepworth claimed the bronze with an average score of 14.949 points.

This marked Yulo's second gold medal in the Olympics, making him the first Filipino gymnast to win gold in Artistic Gymnastics for the Philippines. His achievement not only highlights his exceptional talent but also sets a new standard for future generations of Filipino athletes.

He admitted that he was hoping to perform well that day but didn’t really expect to win a medal. He described the medal as a bonus and mentioned that he couldn’t sleep the night before because he was so hyped after winning the gold medal on floor.

Yulo’s historic win earned him a significant reward, with PAGCOR awarding him ₱20 million in accordance with legal stipulations. Additionally, the

"I'm grateful for the people who truly believed in me through the ups and downs," he stated. "This one is the sweetest, I think."

Beyond the numerous privileges Yulo received, one aspect remained priceless: the profound pride he instilled in the Philippines. His win not only lifted the nation’s spirits but also highlighted the importance of supporting sports beyond basketball. This achievement has encouraged a broader interest in various sports, possibly changing the country’s athletic focus for the future.

EJ Obiena returns, yet to decide for 2028 LA Olympics

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena once again returned to the Philippines after the recent 2024 Paris Olympics, keeping his decisions for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Despite his recurring back injury, Obiena was able to achieve his fourth place in pole vaulting of the recent 2024 Paris Olympics held recently on July 27 to August 11. However, since he had an unsuccessful run that made him fall short of a podium finish, he felt his disappointment at how his second Olympic stint turned out after he came so close in claiming a medal after the three failed attempts at the 5.95 metre-mark.

Obiena was able to reach the finals and cleared 5.80 metres but could not complete the 5.95 metres, settling him for the fourth spot.

As his manager James Michael Lafferty, he commended Obiena to compete despite his back injury.

"The fact that he competed, in my opinion, is amazing. The fact that he came in fourth is beyond amazing," Lafferty said.

Right now, Obiena is not yet fully sure with his decisions for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games as his failed attempts hold him. He stated that he will take it “one day at a time”.

“I think it’s too early. I can’t give anything right now. I cannot promise something that I can’t commit to. I really need to process this a little bit more,” Obiena said to the Philippine Olympic Committee media after the competition.

From his previous 2020 Tokyo Olympics bid, where he finished his pole vaulting at 11th spot— Obiena admitted his struggle as failing yet again at the Olympics would be painful again.

“We’ll see. I’ll take it one day at a time. I’ll talk to my team and see how my health overall and let’s see how it goes. If I’m healthy or not doing anymore damage to myself then maybe I’ll continue the season. I don’t really know,” Obiena said.

“Right now, I still need to process everything.” He added.

Obiena will be keeping his decisions for his plans for the 2028 LA Olympic games. Right now, his main goal for the rest of the year is to recover and defend his World number 2 status.

Fair Sports, No PEDs

Performance-enhancing drugs (PED) have become a significant concern in most cases in the world of sports, while others argue how it has become a whipping hand when it comes to performances— it may still possess unfair advantage to other athletes, or worse, affect serious health risk.

Anti-doping authorities stated that using PEDs goes against the "spirit of sport", wherein it abuses the values of sport, such as health, fairness, integrity, and equality. These drugs can have severe side effects, including heart problems, hormonal imbalances, psychological issues, and in the worst cases, death. Due to these concerns, the use of PEDs is prohibited by most international

sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee. Consequently, banning this drug is crucial to this problem and it can help in maintaining the essence of fair play and well-being of athletes. Sports competition is supposedly created to test an athlete's performance, hardwork, and dedication— because of PEDs, this disrupts the balance and lessens the importance of it. Allowing athletes to execute the sport without their natural effort. In addition, sport organizations ensure that stopping this drug can help athletes to compete fairly, where no athletes rely on drugs and victory is determined mainly with their skills, perseverance, and hardwork.

Despite the efforts of sports

With dedication, I aim to inspire others and show what true leadership is all about. My goal isn't just the title; I want to uplift my fellow students, proving that belief and passion can spark greatness in us all. If you're not willing to put in the hard work, to endure, and fail, there's no point. You win only if you're willing to do whatever it takes."

This lively and captivating event not only brought students together but also highlighted that pageantry isn’t jusr about crowns and titles–it was about celebrating the inner beauty of the contestants, a beauty that goes beyond appearances.

authorities, the issue of PED use re mains ongoing. As advancements continue in all areas, so do the methods of those seeking unfair advantages. This ongoing chal lenge requires anti-doping agencies to remain vigilant and proactive. Banning performance-enhanc ing drugs in sports is crucial for keeping competitions fair and safe. It ensures all athletes play by the same rules, protects their health, and maintains the true spirit of sports. As sports continue to grow, it's important to keep these values strong to ensure a positive ethical future for competition.

ceeded in delivering a wonderful performance, overcoming the challenges of balancing academics and training.

The prizes were divided into ten parts: six for the participants and the remaining portions was given to the coach, trainer, and for the athletes’ needs and preparation.

“As a trainer sa Arnis na nag-train didto sa Talentadong Kagay-anon, what I observed in my trainees that made me think they deserve the win is that the first one would be ideas and innovation, not just from me as a trainer, but also from the athletes. They shared different ideas and we accommodated different elements of surprise for the judges so they could give a high score,” Sanie Mark Bongcaras, the trainer of the Arnis team, quoted.

He also highlighted additional key factors that contributed to their success.

“Second is preparation; they did not come to perform but invested effort and time to prepare their routine and performance. Third is information; we didn’t focus only on ourselves but also observed our opponents. We observed their weaknesses and found our advantages against them,” he added.

Ultimately, the MOGCHS Arnis team brought honor and pride to their school and to the Philippines’ beloved martial art, Arnis, as they celebrated their victory alongside Cagayan de Oro National High School, who placed second, and Agusan National High School, both of whom captured the hearts of the Kagay-anons with their impressive performances, serving as a fitting highlight for the Higalaay Festival celebration.
