Hello! I am a former Teaching Associate and graduate from Faculty of Design, CEPT university. I love to design spaces that not just provide a place to perform an activity but also provokes senses, emotions and create meaningful experiences. In my design process, I strive to achieve a balance between intuition and rational by informing the design with observation of user behavior and their needs. I seek to expand my knowledge and evolve as a designer to create more holistic experiences.

Expected outcome : To develop a complete interior design solution for a POD hotel in a 30 years old commercial building which is an integral part of city’s modern architecture. It consisted of developing your own program and approach to the adaptation to an old structure. Design Approach : The site has a very strong structural grid which creates cubical modules. The generic concept of pod hotel also resonates with the modular designs. Hence, the form, dimensions, and organization of the Pod module are derived from the existing structural grid, keeping the integrity of the existing structure and materiality intact. Aim
Objectives
To study the role of Installation Art and its various approaches and impact on Retail Store Environments.
1. To derive generic features of Installation Art and its relation to design of various interior space. 2. To understand various approaches to Installation Art in Retail Environments.
Installation Art is a relatively new genre of contemporary art , which involves the arrangement or “installation” of objects in a space. The emerging arrangement of material object and space that it resides in comprises the “artwork”. Since the artwork and the space it is displayed in influence the meaning on each other, Installation art has been used in non-museum settings to create richer spatial experiences. Installation Art has been introduced outside of the Art galleries and museums, by assuming its ability to transform spatial experiences into memorable ones. With the urge of enhanced shopping experiences in Retail Environments, the focus has shifted from ‘product centric’ design to ‘consumer centric’ or ‘experience centric’ retail design. Thus, the role of retail designer extends from designing a space to display the product, to design a space where brand experience becomes the primary intent. The emphasis on placing the viewer not as a passive spectator but an active agent in process of communication and experience generation is a common factor of this approach to Retail design and Installation Art. Thus Installation Art is finding its way into retail design.
3. To check the impact of Installation Art on Store perception. 25
Structure of the Study Installation Art and Interior design

Case Study
3.2 Melissa : We are flowers
The derivation of the analysis done in former part of the study will provide a lens through which the impact of Installation Art on store design parameters will be verified in the case studies.
3.3 Prada : The Wave 3.4 Case study inference
Conclusion
04
The study concludes the approaches taken by different brands and contribution of Installation Art in building a retail store perception.
What is the Role of Installation Art in Retail Environment?
Key Take-aways 01 Features of Installation Art : Site specificity Installation Art co-exist with the surrounding space. They use the environment to convey the intended meaning. They create a bond with surrounding space for the viewer to immerse fully and experience the artwork in totality.
Ephemeral Quality Installation Art exists in its suggested time and space. The transformation that a space faces under the impact of an Installation art is temporary, regardless of the sitespecificity of the artwork.
Materiality Installation art is not bound by any material or medium limitations unlike many traditional art forms. It does not follow any particular style of production. Rather it does allow the combination of other mediums and material in order to generate relevant experiences and portray the complexities of the artist’s idea.
Viewer Centric Approach
Interactivity
Installation art tends to impact the sensory perception of the viewer. In a way, it ‘installs’ the viewer into a curated system with the intention to impact the subjective perception of the viewer as its ultimate outcome.
Interactivity is often a key characteristic and goal of installation art and can occur on multiple levels, sometimes simultaneously. The study looks at interactions between Art+Viewer, Viewer+Viewer and also between multiple disciplines.
02 Parallels between Installation Art and the field of Interior Design :
Installation Art can also be called as ‘Spatial art’ or ‘Spatial Installations’ as its relation to the physical space is very evident. The field of interior design also works on the relationship of the architectural shell and elements that resides inside it. As both fields aims at achieving a desired spatial experience in order to communicate a specific message and can take inspiration from each other, it is relevant to study Installation Art as a field and its impact on spatial parameters.

05 Impact of Installation Art on Store Space Perception:
After looking at examples of Installation art the study inferred that various attributes of Installation Art affect the various design parameters in different degrees. The transformation realized under the impact of Installation Art by its different attributes ultimately affects the perception of the brand in customer’s mind.
Form & Material
Inspiration
Placement & Positioning
06 Various approach to Installation Art in Retail Environments: From the case studies, the study inferred that even in different retail space, the function and meaning of Installation art varies according to brand’s intention and desired function. This defines the approach of a particular brand. The different approaches can be majorly concluded in three categories: 1. Aesthetic creation 2. Value creation 3. Educative approach. These approaches do overlap in order to create multi sensorial experience and use the Installation art to its fullest in order to generate multi layered brand image to interpret Installation art in their retail environment.
Educative Approach
i
When Installation Art is used to educate the customer about the product or brand or to create awareness about other causes.
Aesthetic Creation When Installation Art is used to educate the customer about the product or brand or to create awareness about other causes.
Value Addition When Installation Art is used to educate the customer about the product or brand or to create awareness about other causes. 29
07 Role of Installation Art in Retail Environments:
Reinforces Brand Identity :
Provides Visual Appeal :
Installation Art also creates an identity for stores by representing brand’s presence in a creative way. It enables the brand to take the ownership of the store space and differentiate from other competitor’s. It acts like a memory trigger and enhance the shopping experience, which is paramount in today’s world of experience economy.
Installation Art adds an element of spectacle and adds visual drama to the store environment. Strategically designed and placed Installation art can help enhance the presence of the brand in Retail stores. Installation Art also acts as an indication of differentiation and taste along with creating an element of spectacle that engages customer in Retail Environments.
Multi - layered Function :
Provides Flexibility :
Installation Art used in Retail space can serve many functions. It can act as a backdrop to display the product or create a setting that gives different cues to the customer to build a story around the product. This installation can also provide a pause point in the experience path that attract customer’s attention by its experiential quality. It can also be placed as a pivot point in order to impact store circulation and guide the customers to a desired path.
Installation Art works as a tool to transform in-store experiences at different times in the same space. Its quality of being relevant for a particular time and space gives possibility to experiment and create different in store experiences in the same space. As it affects the store design parameters, it can be used strategically to modulate the store perception through its placement and positioning that influence the perceived volume and circulation inside the store, in order to generate different experiences.
