Though instant film photography is quickly becoming a thing of the past, not very long ago it was a revolutionary undertaking that wowed and provided photographers—professional and amateur alike—with the ease and instant gratification of capturing memories never before available to the world of photography. The inventor credited for the modern instant camera goes to American physicist Edwin Land.

In 1947, 10 years after founding the Polaroid

Corporation, Land introduced the first commercial instant camera with its eponymous name, which became an instant success. Before the invention of the Land Camera, taking photos with roll film cameras was an extensive process, which involved taking light meter readings, setting the exposure setting of the lens, a series of balancing acts with the negative and positive of the film, and a potentially messy procedure of coating the image with a fixing agent to prevent fading of the photo.

“Fujifilm is now the only remaining supplier of instant film in the United States.”

Today, instant film cameras have largely been replaced with digital photography, indirectly resulting in the Polaroid Corporation filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announcing the discontinuation of its film.

Fujifilm is now

the only remaining supplier of instant film in the United States.

Despite the news and the ever-increasing difficulty of acquiring the remaining stock

of film, there has been a resurgence of interest in the craft witnessed by the presence of numerous websites, petitions, and articles to save Polaroid.

In response to the popularity of digital photography, the Polaroid Corporation has
