BEST SECOND YEAR THESIS PROJECT 2018
one stop wedding centre Nominee of Robert Oxman - Second Year Best Thesis Project Architectural Master Thesis First Advisor: Joris Fach Second Advisor: Roger Bundschuh Berlin, Germany 2018 In light of the recent visionary plans of changing the urban transportation system in Germany and around Europe, the studio collective will be looking into the big topic of parking garages. The point of interest would be the capital of Germany, Berlin, where parking garages are increasingly vacant. Attracted by the bare concrete skeleton and prime locations, these nodes will be adopted as a site for architectural interventions. The selected garage is located in the heart of FriedrichshainKreuzberg which is heavily populated with Turkish demographics. Inspired by the importance of weddings in the Turkish culture, the extravagant festivity of weddings and its multi-million dollar industry, the proposal is to adapt the garage into a One Stop Wedding Centre.

BEST FIRST YEAR THESIS PROJECT 2017
the barn Winner of Lars Lerup - First Year Best Thesis Project Architectural Design Studio First Advisors: Sebastian Ernst, Jonas Tratz Berlin, Germany 2017 “The Barn” was conceived from the task to derive the best strategy for this randomly given narrow and deep plot. It maximises the potential of the plot in one combined volume. While it looks like one ordinary house from the front; blending into the site, it secretly stretches into the plot. The volume is then sliced evenly dividing them into a series of modules. It consists of an 8 unit row house as it proves to be the most effective type for this plot. It is seriality without pure repetition by introducing diagonal shear walls articulating itself through the depth of the plot. From the floor plan, it functions like a machine with a rigid logic, but in the section it interestingly displays the characters of each unit. Featured spaces are plugged on to the volume to create address, orientation and an individual symbol for each unit. “The Barn” is bold and fits strongly onto the site with little elements of surprise.

backlane ideology Architectural Design Studio First Advisor: Sam Chermayeff Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2017 The topic of the studio is Toilet Ideology. It starts from observations about the world we live in. From those observations we question assumptions about living. It deals with open living from detail into neighbourhood. This project started with an extensive study of the cultural typology in terrace housing in Malaysia. The idea is to revive the Malaysian terrace housing back lane by introducing it as a semi-private-public space. This project studies this new space as an extra socio-spatial area for neighbourhood and family bonding. In a series of studies of typologies, this project aims to experiment typologies of families, programs and tropical trees. The objective is to design an ambiguous and at the same time specific spaces in the back lane. While dealing with Malaysian cultural context, it also incorporates modern Western approaches. Lastly, using vegetation as a study to softly divide the public and private spaces.
forecast forum III installation Exhibition FAKT - Office For Architecture Sebastian Ernst, Sebastian Kern, Martin Tessarz, Jonas Tratz Team: O. Alunovic, M. Linnenschmidt, H. Peters Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt, Berlin, Germany 2018 An exhibition architecture in collaboration with Forecast Forum - an international platform for pioneering ideas from anywhere in the world and in various disciplines. The location, Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt, is portrayed as a field of columns and structural element to stage spaces for the participants. A corresponding idea of using multi-layered plastic membranes to create elliptical spaces in a discreet object-like appearance. These elements are able to interact with the diverse spaces of the house and with each other, as well as render an open field for the mentors and mentees alike.

halb stadt, halb garten Space Pioneers - Tiny House Competition FAKT - Office For Architecture Sebastian Ernst, Sebastian Kern, Martin Tessarz, Jonas Tratz Ludwigsburg, Germany 2017 This open competition is by the Ludwigsburg Museum to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the city of Ludwigsburg. It goes along the question of “what constitues a modern, up-todate city dwelling?. The answer was the idea of garden and house - the prototypical micro house stimulates discussion as well as showcases its possible new forms of dwelling. It acts as a first piece of the puzzle to a future modular, dense, green and vibrant city.
kraftwerk rummelsburg Concept for Private Developer FAKT - Office For Architecture Sebastian Ernst, Sebastian Kern, Martin Tessarz, Jonas Tratz Berlin, Germany 2017 Three different concepts are developed and sketched for the property around the former power plant in Rummelsburg on the Spree. The concepts are based on the fundamental assumption to develop the unique area with a usage concept, which has a focus on production and attractive retail space. All three of the concepts express their own character which in return leads to completely different structural ideas and usage options.

small houses of berlin Elective Program Landhaus Lemke, Berlin, Germany Mies Van Der Rohe 2017 Small houses of Berlin is aimed to study and redraw small and famous houses in Berlin. Firstly as conventional architectural drawings then explored in a single creative architectural drawing to capture the essence of the building. Amongst many, the assigned house is Landhaus Lemke by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. Built in year 1933, it was the last house designed by him before his emigration to the United States. It was designed for a manufactur couple, Karl and Martha Lemke as a single family house. It is a 145 square meter building sitting on a plot of approximately 2800 square meter. It displays its aesthetics and atmosphere of both home and nature which classifies it as a gem of classical modernism.

LIGHTING DESIGNER
Armanzaki has always been a theatre enthusiast and practitioner ever since he graduated from college with a Diploma in Performing Arts. He has since done Stage Design, (he’s not doing so much of that anymore) Stage Management, (he can’t believe he’s still doing that) and a friend got him into Lighting Design (so he’s doing that now). He wishes to do more, to keep on telling stories and designing dreams. Other than that he’s just another human being. Make good art.
