PRAYER DIARY 2015

“I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. Matthew 25: 31-46

Prayers

Adapted from the Annual Service held at St. Michael Paternoster Royal, London, in May 2014

Lord God let us remember all the seafarers who cross the oceans of the world. Having given up the comforts of their home life to bring us the comforts of ours we pray for their safety and security. In rough weather, or in pirate high risk areas we ask that you will be their guide, and help in time of trouble. Keep them safe in the knowledge of your love and give them safe harbours during their voyage. In the loneliness of absence from family and friends help them to feel welcomed where they go, that they may feel a belonging and not a solitude. We pray for seafarers’ families at home. Where partners and children feel incomplete with the absence of their loved ones grant to them strength to continue that the heartache of separation may be softened by the knowledge that you are their comfort in times of loneliness. May the waiting for homecoming be a source of anticipation, encouragement and joy. Lord God, give to those responsible for the design and construction of ships the vision and skill to produce ships that offer the safest working environment and comfortable living quarters. We ask for the best workmanship from those who build, that they may fashion the materials to the most effective construction. We pray for those who watch over international shipping and can regulate for a safer shipping industry. May they always be in pursuit of better standards throughout the industry and constantly strive for decent working and living conditions, safer ships and cleaner seas. Give wisdom and discernment Lord to those who own and manage ships that in consort with those who organise labour they may together strive for ever better relations that will uphold the profession and dignity of seafarers who enable international trade. We give thanks for all the maritime community whom together ensure food and fuel security and the availability of raw materials and manufactured goods. We recognise the global contribution to peace and harmony from the carriage of international aid. We give thanks for the dedicated men and women of The Mission to Seafarers; supporters, volunteers and staff who, in pursuit of their ministry and calling, faithfully serve you, our Lord God.

From The Mission to Seafarers in Australia A Prayer for seafarers, their families and loved ones

Lord God, we depend on you for life itself. We depend on seafarers for many of our daily needs. Watch over them, keep them from danger, befriend them in loneliness and bring them safely home to those they love. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
