June 2016 Dear Missoula Y Members and Donors, As the new CEO of the Missoula Family YMCA, moving to Missoula from Eastern Montana with my wife and our five young children has proven to be a thrilling adventure. As we become a part of this community, I marvel at the impact of the Y within Missoula. I love wearing my name tag around town and having strangers approach me with their Y stories of how their spirit, mind, and body has been strengthened by the Y. When I was a young man my grandfather taught me how to set the corner posts in our pastures. After we firmly planted and stablized each of these posts, my grandfather would say, “There’s something you can be proud of. We did our work well and it will endure long after I am gone.” Today my grandfather is gone, but our fence lines are still anchored to posts that we set decades ago, and I’m grateful for his legacy of patience, hard work, and willingness that our family still benefits from. The Y reminds me of the remarkable legacy that an individual can leave. On a daily basis there are people using the Y’s programs and facilities who want to do their very best, and they leave a legacy with every person they meet here. The Y is also very blessed because of the hundreds of donors who support Y programs and services. These donors understand that one of the greatest gifts they can give their community is a healthy and safe place to grow in spirit, mind, and body. No donation dollars leave Missoula or are used to cover administrative salaries. I am profoundly grateful for the legacies that each of you is leaving, and I look forward to leaving my own legacy because of, and with, the Missoula Y. Together we can all ensure that we leave a legacy that will endure long after we are gone and that will inspire those who come after us. Sincerely,
