16 Years Down and Forever to Go

In the spring of 2006, Jim Sheets felt that the list of Clubs within the Club (CWC) was missing something. After approaching Reverend Mel Witt with the idea of a “Seniors Club,” the Forever Young Club (FYC) seed was planted. Reverend Mel Witt assumed the position as the founding president.

Before officially voting on the name, Ageless Wonder, Over the Hill Gang, Golden MAC’ers, Third Friday and Wrinkles were a few of the proposed names. Once Witt was formally elected as the first president in the fall of 2006, attending Members voted to officially claim their name as the Forever Young Club.

The travel committee was formed shortly thereafter, for the purpose of arranging excursions for Members, both single and multi-day trips. Marilyn Ells served as chairwoman from 2008 through the close of 2013. Judith Hanses assumed the travel committee chairmanship in January 2014. Other committees included planning, speakers, cards and receptions, totaling five committees. As years have passed and the FYC has grown, the committees are known today as program, travel, publicity, hospitality and Membership.

The FYC continues to live by its mission: to sponsor dynamic speaker programs and plan trips and activities of interest to its Members, while promoting and enhancing good fellowship, camaraderie and friendship among all the FYC members. The FYC meets at the West Clubhouse on the third Friday of each month for a membership luncheon meeting.
