JASPER COUNTY is located in the southwest portion of Missouri, with its county seat in the historic city of Carthage. The majestic Jasper Courthouse, built between 1894 and 1895 and located right in the Carthage square, is one of Missouri’s finest, and is now included on the National Register of Historic Places. Route 66 moves through the towns and communities of Avilla, Carthage, Brooklyn Heights, Carterville, Webb City, and Joplin on to the Missouri-Kansas state line.
