he Government unveiled its largest direct investment in education with a total amount of €15 million purchase of equipment for teachers and classrooms. The sum of €7 million was invested in 7,074 top-of-the-range lightweight laptops for teachers, LSAs and Kindergarten Assistants. The changeover, which was started a few weeks ago, is ongoing and will shortly be finalized. The aim of the laptops is to help educators improve the

quality of education being delivered on a daily basis. All laptops also include a servicing agreement. A total of 3,200 all-in-one touchscreen computer will also be installed in all classrooms in primary and secondary schools. The delivery of this equipment, which is in its initial stages, will mean that educators can utilize this equipment instead of their own laptop to deliver content in class. Both the laptop and the allin-one touchscreen will have the latest software installed.

The investment also includes a €4 million upgrading of network systems across schools in order to boost the data capabilities, especially in preparation of the one-tablet-per-child rollout in September. Other equipment purchased as part of this investment include 3D printers and scanners, 100 new upgraded interactive whiteboards, flat panels to replace current interactive whiteboards.

The total value of this investment is over €15 million. EU funds contributed a total of €12 million to this investment. This is the largest direct investment in teaching and the classroom since 2011, when €11 million were invested in interactive whiteboards. This €15 million investment is the next step to modernize the classroom and engage students in a fun and interactive way.

MITA was heavily involved in this large-scale project. The strong relationship between MITA and Microsoft all 10,000 devices will be running on the latest Windows 10 platform. Microsoft immediately considered this project as a showcase and for this reason Microsoft assigned an engineer on-site to participate in the design of the imaging and rollout process.
