The Malta Independent ICT Feature MITA Communications and PR Team
T
his year the eSkills Malta Foundation took part in the annual Careers Convention organised by the University Students Council (KSU) which was held at the University Quadrangle. The Digital Outreach Unit within MITA is in its second iteration in the delivery of the ‘ICT
Industry Insights’ study unit. This study-unit provides students with practical insights into the daily challenges of a large ICT-serving public organisation. All ICT Features are available on www.mita.gov.mt/ictfeature
Collaboration with the Faculty Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA) – article by Digital outreach and FEMA MITA Agency has forged a solid business relationship with FEMA within the University of Malta and as part of this, MITA is currently contributing to the B.Sc. (Hons) in Business and IT. The Digital Outreach Unit within MITA is in its second iteration in the delivery of the ‘ICT Industry Insights’ study unit. This studyunit provides students with practical insights into the daily challenges of a large ICT-serving public organisation. The topics within the unit cover various elements of the ICT programme management and service deliv-
ery. The context within which MITA operates is also covered. Students are provided with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the practical aspects of managing large-scale programmes and projects in the local public sector. The purpose of this collaboration is to present students with real business problems, projects and real work situations as experienced at MITA. This enables the students to apply the technical and business knowledge gained in the other study units within the same Degree. Kurt Giacchino, one of the
students reading for his degree feels that students stand to gain from this approach towards learning since they are “being provided with information that is directly and practically related to the industries they may be working for in the foreseeable future“. The students are exposed to the different perspectives, uncertainties and factors influencing ICT programmes and projects. Furthermore, the study-unit allows students to comprehend constraints and obligations associated with ICT programmes and service deliv-
ery. Through interactive sessions with speakers hailing from different MITA departments, the students can analyse factors, issues and applications based on contemporary working practices in the ICT industry. Throughout the study unit, students are exposed to activities that encourage them to prepare and deliver well-structured presentations, arguments and explanations using different methods in project teams. The first set of presentations was delivered on Tuesday 8th March 2016 at the MITA Data Centre.
