Dwelling Equipment Part - B
Who?
Dwelling Equipment Part B is dedicated to providing a possible solution to address and support people transitioning out of homelessness.
What?
A community of 12 micro dwellings with shared community facilities.
Where?
Situated among the dense nature of Adelaide, my Micro Housing community is situated at 331 Wakefield Street, a long narrow city block.
How?
This project will exploit the vast possibilities of prefabrication in order to act as example for other similar projects.
My dwellings aim to create a pleasant connection between the interior and exterior provided by window placement and dwelling layout. The dwelling encourages interaction with others as well as interaction with the dwelling itself; ladder and reclining net. Provided within the dwelling is a bed, lockable bed drawers, built in desk and single chair. Each dwelling has a w/c and basin with shower cubicals and laundry facilities povided in the community buildings. The commons building provides cooking, dining and lounge facilities. The community has a fruit and vegetable garden to be maintained to used extensively by the site’s occupants.

Micro-Apartment is a unique project by spamroon and johnpaulcoss. The area is only 21sqm. There is a comfortably large mezzanine level which overhangs a square living space. The kitchen is a small adaptation of a modern kitchen. The bathroom is compact but the use of mirrors on the walls increases the perception of size. I plan to implement this idea through windows connecting the bathroom to the small private garden.
My Micro in New York is a series of prefabricated modular rental apartments by nARCHITECTS. The modules are built off site in a Navy Yard.
Rocha Apartment is 180sqm, which is extremely larger than the scale of my project, however there are a few things to gain from CaSA’s Rocha Apartment. The bathrooms are very minimal. Each bedroom has its own bathroom which reduces the need for privacy that a shared bathroom may need. The bathrooms feel like a part of the bedroom space, but do not create disharmony in the space. This design aspect partially stems from the brief stating a “contemporary holiday atmosphere” is to be provided. The rear living area is segmented into a kitchen, dining and lounge.
This project was built to accommodate New York’s growing population of one and two person households. The ten story 55 apartment block features Juliette balconies and concealed storage space. A project of this scale, 92 modules, only takes two weeks to erect. The average area of each apartment is 26.5sqm and there are shared amenities which include a gym, small lounge, community room, public roof terrace and small garden.
