Light as a Fetish for Hong Kong Flaunting her undeniable and ever growing power in economy, Hong Kong has dressed herself in a dazzling choreography of light. Light is a visual and psychological tool for this city to present itself as the ideal economic destination and its experience in laissez-faire capitalism. The streetscape of Hong Kong benefits from the attraction of light in the form of neon signs and LEDs. The density and plurality of these signs make it almost impossible for eyes to avoid them. They provide the viewers with a strong visual experience and add a fictional and artificial layer to each individual’s interpretation of the city. These lights are seen as a communicative network among all the other layers that make up the city. luminous and colourful lines, representing the city’s liveliness and vibration as well as its elevated physical apearance.

Liveliness of London has been added to the dullness and stagnation of Athens, in the form of moving lights. The idea has been derived from pinhole camera and double-exposure shots.

A site in Central Athens - A Proposal Central Athens is a problematic area, home to anarchists and migrants. Moving from light to fire led the project to political and social issues. A proposal has been made, considering these groups and their ideals that conflict with a third group, the rich. The concept of ideal, flourishes in the coexistence and penetration of these groups into eachother.
Three degrees of burning are defined in this project, and activities that replace the previous ones have a relationship with this classification. The diagram shows the elements that have been chosen to burn and proposed activities. The choices suggest functions that are more social and can engage people more in their neighborhood. stage 1: minor destruction, where the spaces are transformed into sheltered places for these activities: internet hub, graffiti wall/workshop, installation space
stage 2: half-destruction or destruction of a floor in a building, change in shape. proposed activities: radio station, rooftop art space, ouzeris/cafes, recycle point
stage 3: complete destruction. proposed activities: local market, open space/ park/ playground, occasional theatre

Concept Kish is a free zone island in south of Iran. It has begun growing since 30 years ago as a tourist destination. The danger threatening one of the rarest atol islands in the world is the concentration of activities on trade and business and massive developments, which seems to be imitated from the neighbour city, Dubai. In order to make objection to this movement and to encourage people to benefir from the nature, the idea of creating a multi-purpose complex was created.
Process The building was to be a reflecting object seen from above. This reflection is achieved by bending mirror-like surfaces. Each surface with different angle to sunlight and a different coating made possible different colors and reflections. This idea makes the building the most eye-catching element in Kish. To protect people from direct sunlight the site is covered with a shell, representing a huge fig tree, the local tree in the area. Thhe functional spaces are suspended from this shell. The shadows produced by filled and empty spaces of the shell have the same effect of the tree’s shadow. The shape of the modules in the roof are inspired by these effects. In contrast to the outside, the inner space is calm and humane. Soft lines make people feel comfortable and create a dialog with nature.
The fig tree has aerial roots that reach the ground to grow. The form of the trunk and branches makes a shade underneath the tree. In this project, the structure acts much like the trunk and branches of the tree, holding the shell as a roof for closed and semi-closed spaces. The diagrams above show the process of playing with the full and empty according to the leaves natural effect on the ground.
