THIS IS SAVANNAH. SHE GOES TO YOKOHAMA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL.


One day, Savannah fell and broke her leg. Suddenly, going to classes became difficult. She never thought of simply going to a place as hard before.


Now that she needed crutches to maneuver around the school, it became unsafe for Savannah to receive education. Was that fair? ,


Overwhelmed by how easily an environment can change depending on the person using it, she went to the library (one of the only places she can go safely!!) to investigate.  -

As Savannah learned more about accessibility, she started to observe her surroundings more. She found out that most staircases she looked at had railings, and that YIS was more accessible than she thought. ).


Savannah came upon a revelation. First, on how important help from friends were. Second, on how accessibility was just as important to her friend as herself. Accessibility wasn't just important for people with injuries or disabilities. It was important for EVERYONE. The safety of Yokohama International School in terms of access way affected her friends, her teachers, the cleaning ladies, the parents, visitors, and everyone else who used the school. Improving accessibility didn't have to be in a grand scale. Some things were possible to be done by the students themselves.

Savannah thought that it was amazing how things could be improved without massive amounts of money or with professional people. Many of the improvements could be executed by students like herself! Starting by these small steps, possibilities were endless.
