Guillemot Egg Empty egg, 20th century
This egg would have been collected by climmers and belonged to a Guillemot - a large seabird with various local breeding colonies, including Bempton Cliffs. Each shell has a unique pattern. Such variations highly increase the value of such eggs amongst egg collectors. This is a rare example of a red Guillemot egg. It has been illegal to steal the eggs of wild birds since 1954.
