Partula Faba snails Date unknown
Partula Faba snails, often referred to as Captain Cook Bean Snails, were related to small Polynesian tree snails. They originate from the South Pacific Polynesian Islands. They became extinct in the wild in the 1990s after a new predatory snail species was introduced to rid the islands of an alien snail species that had been introduced earlier. Instead the new species decimated the partula faba population. Despite zoo conservation efforts the last surviving partula faba died in Edinburgh Zoo on 21st February 2016.
