My name is Kevin Rayson I am a mature student at B.S.D.C. in my second year of a degree course in Contemporary Arts Practice. My future is to continue with my degree Ba (Hons) next year. The painting of W L S Churchill was part of my course where we had to paint in oils a contemporary figure, this coincided with the release of Darkest Hour. The story of Winston being made Prime Minister at the start of WW2 and his journey through the war.
Winston This image of W L S Churchill has got faults with it these are deliberate. This was one of Britain’s most celebrated people, but he was human and made mistakes. A transport worker’s strike in August 1911 led to crowds clashing violently with police at St George's Plateau. Two men were shot and killed by the army this was under the instruction of the then Home secretary Winston Churchill. The Second major Mistake was the Dardanelles campaign (known as Gallipoli). This was Churchills idea, but he was exonerated from blame by a judicial review. The faults that I refer to are the left eye is not correct and the mouth. I suffer with depression, so I inserted the black dog to show my understanding of his mental health. In his time, he must have gone through hell as medical intervention was not available.
