Deck chair 1950s-60s
The morning would start at 8am with a check of the stack, to make sure no one was asleep amongst the chairs. We’d then untie the ropes that kept the chairs safe overnight. About 9am the first customers would appear, these would be from the ‘bottom end’ B&Bs. By 11am you would be hard pressed to walk a straight line from the pavement to the sea, so thick was the beach with chairs and windbreaks. John, Senior Operations Assistant
