E-mountain bikes become more compact Â
Berlin A bike trend for 2018 is: The electric mountain bike is becoming increasingly compact thanks to the slimmer batteries get you best bike us available. This is announced by the press service Fahrrad (pdf) on the occasion of a presentation of new products in Berlin.
This also benefits cyclists with small stature. The company Haibike, for example, shows a particularly slim battery in the Enduro Full Life 6.0 Ladies, which, according to pdf, makes a very small XS frame possible with a frame height of just 40 centimeters, which is nevertheless fully sprung. The bike costs 3399 euros.
With â‚Ź 3,899 the Uproc 2 6:30 beats Flyer, which also has a low frame. This will benefit the freedom of movement and let smaller cyclists get better. With the Xduro Allen 7.0 for 4499 Euro Haibike also shows a wheel with battery, which is installed in the down tube. The bike with 150 mm travel on the fork and large brake discs is designed for rugged use but remains handy.
"The mountain bike is once again a trendsetter here," says David KoĂ&#x;mann from pdf. "Even in e-bikes, the sports sector is on innovation hunt." He calls for earlier examples suspension and the disc brake, which are now available in most city bikes.
The accessories also have a retro trend back to the 1990s. Thus, the tire manufacturer Schwalbe has a coat with a classic beige-colored sidewall on offer. The Nobby Nic costs as Classic Skin 57.90 euros.
Chainrings as in the 1990s are also back: about the Sram X-Sync 2 Oval for 126 euros. The advantage of the oval pedaling: "One should be able to rounder with it and reduce stress on the joints," said Koßmann. "In the past, however, they could be switched worse than with round leaves." For example, the chain between the front chainrings sometimes jumped off.
Meanwhile, the so-called single drive avoids such problems. There is only one leaf on the pedal. The pinion cassette on the rear wheel provides for a large number of gears. "500 percent of the translation bandwidth is state of the art," says Koßmann. For example, at the switching group GX Eagle for 499 euros.
The popularity of straight electric mountain bikes will continue unabated in 2018. "Because that's an ideal recreational vehicle," says Koßmann. "Just driving off the road into the area and not getting out of breath so easily on long distances and after a climb," he points out as reasons. (Dpa / time)
