A. Daywreck, Citral, Cheese x Chocolate Thai, Sweet Juice, Dj Shorts, Blueberry, Mendo Purps, and UK Cheese.

Q

A. Sweet Juice. I love it because it requires very little maintenance and the yield is on the heavy side. Not to mention it’s just delicious!

Q

: In your opinion, do you think Compassion Centers will ever open it’s doors?

A. I really hope so. I was very proud to see, the people of Rhode Island stand up to the U.S Attorney’s threat. It is sad to see the federal government waste it’s time and resources to bully the 3 dispensaries into not opening. Is three dispensaries in the smallest state in the country a threat to our freedom and saftey? Although, Rhode Island is small, it’s people are fierce and revolutionary by nature. The Compassion Centers will open, it’s common sense, and its the right thing to do.▀ 7

Given his résumé and training, Bock has observed the medical, ethical and sociopolitical ramifications of medical marijuana from several distinct vantage points. His professional background includes not only Chinese medicine, but also medical research ethics as well as oncology care. He was Manager of Regulatory Affairs for the Department of Interventional Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and has worked with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Both of these nationally recognized and highly respected healthcare institutions are in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Bock has also witnessed the issue of medical marijuana from a deeply personal perspective. Bock’s aunt, struggling with cancer over the course of 10 years—one of two family members who eventually succumbed to the disease—used marijuana illegally as a palliative for deby Daniel Highet bilitating pain, and to counteract the nausea and physical wasting brought on by her illness and prolonged chemotherapy treatment. At the time, there were no legal programs for the prescription, usage, supply or demand of medical marijuana. “The medicinal benefits of marijuana extended my aunt’s life years beyond what would have otherwise been her outcome,” said Bock. “If others can benefit by gaining safe access to this simple, relatively non-toxic substance, there is absolutely no fear-based reason to deny them. "Originally my friend brought four seeds back from California last year. Of the four, three of them turned out to be female, one of the plants got pollenated so I have lots of seeds now!" Dj Stone recalled. San Fernando Valley Kush is of the same lineage as OG Kush, which is well known as one of the most potent medical strains ever. Rhode Island medical marijuana patients who suffer from severe pain, insomnia, anxiety, and other ailments will certainly want to try this potent medicine. San Fernendo Valley Kush now has a strong base in the Ocean State, and it will help to bring much needed relief to medical marijuana patients in Rhode Island and beyond.

Flavor and Efficacy San Fernendo Valley Kush has a very distinctive and unique flavor, with the classic sharp kush taste dominating the flavor notes. The first toke makes your eyes water and your nose may even become a little itchy. The smoke was mild when smoked in a joint, it caused very little coughing or hacking so its perfect for a patient who can't strain a great deal. Employing a vaporizor or water pipe may help to further smooth out the potent smoke this powerful indica produces. The effects were almost instantaneous with a calm feeling of relaxation from the moment of exhale. Recomended dosage is half a joint (or 1/2g).

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE by Sapientia

“NEVER DO ANYTHING AGAINST CONSCIENCE EVEN IF THE STATE DEMANDS IT.” ~ALBERT EINSTEIN

I

n a country that self-righteously describes itself as “free” and not just “free”, but the shining example to the free world. When in all reality, the typical American is nothing more than a drone, a slave to television “programming” and fast-food. Americans by large have a pedantic, juvenile understanding of reality, history and their own origins as free humans born on planet Earth. Simply put, most Americans wouldn’t recognize freedom if it bit them in the ass. The source of Americans’ ignorance of how un-free they really are comes from their ignorance of what the different types of rights are and what their sources are. Broadly speaking, there are two types of rights. There are natural rights and there are civil rights. Every drug law in the United States, or in any single state therein, is a clear violation of both natural and civil rights. First, for natural rights. Natural rights predate all governments. They existed before states, before nations, before cities, before all trappings of civilization. Natural rights are bestowed upon us at birth, they are the universal truths which govern the cosmos, the “laws of nature”. Natural law supercedes all government, the founders of our nation understood this. Natural rights, Thomas Jefferson termed them inalienable rights, and their source is nature itself, no earthly authority can deprive us of these rights. For example, every person has the right to live. Governments, of course, drop bombs on people the way most of us throw out used coffee filters. We also have the natural right to own and promote our own ideas, beliefs, and consumptions. Put much more simply, every single person owns his or her body, mind, and

12

June 2011

soul. Unless that person violates the body, mind, or soul of another person, it is entirely illegitimate for any government to exercise any control over one’s actions. For example, I can believe in whatever I want to believe unless or until my beliefs deprive others of their natural rights. The most well-known example of this premise is that I can say whatever I want, no matter how hateful or vulgar, but I can NOT shout “fire!” in a crowded theater. According to natural law, I own my own body and I have the right to use it as I see fit. Ask yourself, if someone does not have complete freedom over their own body, are they free? The question answers itself. Any law, therefore, that restricts or regulates what I put into my body is a violation of my natural rights. Unless my consumption deprives others of their rights, no limitations can be put on what I choose to put into my own body. The most insulting ignorance that Americans show about rights is evident in our drug laws. Most Americans think drugs should be illegal. I do not. Most Americans would think that I am advocating drug use. I am not. I am advocating freedom of choice and action. If heroin were legalized tomorrow, how many of us would start using heroin? If this question sounds absurd, that only betrays the absurdity of our drug laws. I do not need the government to forbid me to use heroin; I need my own common sense to do that. Most Americans have the mentality of children who still need “Big Daddy’s” approval, what we really need; is to start thinking and acting like adults capable of making our own decisions. Drug laws are based upon this premise: the government needs to “take care” of us by restricting our freedom of personal choice because if we were truly free to choose, we would degenerate into heroin addicts. This concept of benevolent tyranny is so antithetical to what the American Revolution was supposed to be about that we may as well have never had a revolution. All of the wrangling between the federal government and the states over medical marijuana laws, for example, are a charade and a distraction from the true matter at hand here, which is that no government has any right to regulate what plants we eat, drink, or smoke. Any restriction on our personal use of our own body violates natural law. For the people who know that government does not have the right to outlaw certain drugs, it is evident these Draconian drug laws are a deep violation of the American system and what the writers of the constitution envisioned for us. The federal government only has the specific powers enumerated to it in the Constitution. Of course, the history of American government is largely the history of the federal government selling our country out to private interests like the federal reserve (with is not federal, but a private

bank), or other big business cartels. It has tyrannically insinuated itself so far into our lives that our society has now became a corporate fascist state, much like Nazi Germany in the years before WWII. The Constitution does not say “We, the people, in order to prevent people from getting high....”. That’s not in there. Trust me. Nowhere in that document is the government given the authority to regulate any food, drug, medicine. Of course that does not stop them from establishing bureaucratic organizations to regulate and control us. What the Constitution says in the 10th amendment, (the most ignored amendment in the Bill of Rights): is that any power not specifically p p y given g to the federal government goes to the states or the people. should have been clear. Firstly, that law violated our natural rights to our own body, as explained above. Secondly, if we accept the premise that the government can regulate what we ingest (which I do NOT) then that power should rightly go to the states. The federal government has no role in this issue whichever way you slice it. Now Rhode Islanders are being doubly tyrannized. We are tyrannized by our state which violates our natural rights by telling us what, when, and how we can use our own bodies We are also tyrannized by the federal government which tells our state that it has no right to even partially lessen or rationalize these tyrannical infringements upon our human rights. What is left to us when every level of government has failed us? What can we do when our rights are removed in the interest of “protecting” us from ourselves? Our only course of action is to stop acting like slaves, switch off the TV, and start demanding that our human rights be given back to us! If not, the spirit of 1776 burns bright in Rhode Islanders, we started the American revolution right here in the Ocean State, and we can do it again. Our leaders fear us, they fear the power unified people represent, they know they can’t control us if we work together, thats why they divide us through skin color, social status, and other superficial means. It is time for the human race to get off it’s knees and stand up!▀

GEOFF CHARLES THE MAN BEHIND THE VOICE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW 1000 Watts: How long have you been in radio? Geoff Charles: I’m going to say about 35 Years. 1000 Watts: How old were you when you first started? Geoff Charles: That’s the interesting part of the story. I got into radio the day Elvis Presley died. At that time, I was working in kind of head shop/roller skate shop a friend of mine had in Pacific Beach California. I was walking back from the bank. I was doing a deposit, in a t-shirt and flip-flops. This guy comes up to me with a microphone and a camera from some local station and says, “What do you think about the death of Elvis Presley?” I replied, “Elvis Presley just died?” “Yes, he died this mourning, they found him dead.” replied the reporter. “Oh well…” I launched into this 5-minute thing about Elvis Presley. They thanked me for it and gave me a dollar. That night, Dick Van Dyke, who at the time owned some radio stations, said, “Who is that guy who talked about Elvis Presley?” To make a long story short, they got me into a radio station in Phoenix Arizona. I had not been in radio before, and they showed me everything. They liked my voice, and I talked to the general manager, that’s how I started my career, on an AM radio station playing big band. And Dick Van Dyke would come over on Saturday

mornings and record a little show; some show he would do by himself, where he would play his favorite music because he owned the station. 1000 Watts: Would you say you’re well known for the 420 club? Geoff Charles: That’s the oldest 420 club in the nation, in this nation. There may be an older one in Canada but I doubt it. I know in the United States, it’s the oldest radio 420 club in the country. That’s because I was doing it when that was Taboo. 1000 Watts:And how did you start that? Geoff Charles: I knew about 420, and the two different stories. The one that seems to hold more magic than anything else, kids meeting after school in California because

of the time they would get out of class, meet me after school at 420 to smoke a joint behind the‌ That seems to be the truest story. The story my generation has that it was a police call. A 420 at the corner of central and Suffolk. That either meant doing illicit drugs, or dealing illicit drugs. That came from Haight-Ashbury. In the Haight-Ashbury district they were smoking joints all the time. In fact its fun today to look back on Haight-Ashbury, to meeting Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead. Seeing him forever, on that Album cover, where he’s the youngest member of the band. Long hair, and they are in that victorian house, all posing on the steps. Nobody knew right across the street was a Hells Angel’s clubhouse, and they loved the Grateful Dead, they rode their motorcycles by all the time. Meeting Bob Weir, thinking about how long his hair was. What a legend he was. I think of all the people who ever came to the radio station, rock stars, etc. I think that Cheech and Chong probably had the greatest line up outside at the radio station. We had people lined up along the parking lot. We’ve had other stars, but they have nothing on Cheech and Chong. When Cheech and Chong went outside after I had talked to them, and had them in the studio. Tommy Chong says to me “Yeah man, this is what radio ought to be like, just a couple guys like this sitting around talking.â€? They went outside and spent there time signing album covers. When Cheech Marin smiles, he lights up a room, its like magic. 1000 Watts: Tell us what you want our readers to know about you? Geoff Charles: Absolutely Nothing! What I want people to know; gee that’s a tough question. I think people know me because what I do on the air is real. I don’t do anything on the air that isn’t me. I wouldn’t do anything or say anything that didn’t pop out from my heart. So I want them to know that, it’s all ad lib. I know a lot of things about life and such, and I know facts, and a lot of weird stuff. It costs 2 cents to make a penny. 1000 Watts: And you’ve always been like that? Geoff Charles: Yeah, I always have. The guy who ďŹ red and hired me in radio said, “You know, your head is like a big sponge that sucks up everything.â€? And he goes “I don’t know where you’re going with that, but you should go someplace.â€? He said. “Whatever is going to happen, that sponge is going to work for you, and it has.â€? Steven King told me we all have different ďŹ lters in our heads, and his just catches different lint and dust than mine does, or anyone else’s does. And that’s a good way to look at it. 1000 Watts: How do you feel about activist groups?

An Open Letter to

President Obama You were known and elected for being the president of “change”, in 2004 you stated that the war on drugs was an utter failure, seeing over the last 40 years, trillions of dollars have been spent and we are only seeing an increase in use, demand and violence and a decrease in price. You also had stated that you believe in decimalization of marijuana. In 2007 you stated that you would not have the justice system prosecute anyone for medical marijuana use, that it should be up to the state to make the appropriate decision for their citizens, yet now in your presidency your allowing federal prosecution for established medical marijuana states that are looking to bring increased income to their economy. How would you feel if admitting to inhaling the smoke as a child made it so you were not able to run for president? Do you think you’re morally corrupt compared to someone who has never smoked Marijuana but has committed vehicular homicide under the influence of alcohol? Do you think a young adults life should be based on weather or not they have smoke a herb that has not one reported case of death anywhere?. How can we trust the FDA, who has overseen the release of millions of prescription drugs. When under the Food and Drug Administration, There has been so many prescription drugs widely known for deaths, birth defects, and side effects that are sometimes worse than the symptoms it’s masking? You had once said that USA needs to decrease the demand for Marijuana, that

is how we are going to solve this problem, How do you suppose that we decrease such a logical demand? Not only is marijuana one of the oldest known medicinal herbs, but industrially the Hemp plant provides a multitude of economic and practical uses, paper, clothing, lumber, all of which is able to be taxed, provide jobs and bring income back to the economy as a whole. The Government and media like to attach a negative connotation to marijuana, such as Reefer Madness, a gateway drug, and terrorist activity. By connecting marijuana with; cocaine, crack, and meth, the Government is able to trick people into thinking marijuana alone is harmful. Just recently with news of Osama Bin Laden’s death, the media tried to turn marijuana into a Terrorist scheme, by suggesting Osama having marijuana plants near his home, like many, many others in Pakistan, Afghanistan and surrounding areas. This is not a tactic for terrorists who live there; this is because marijuana and hashish originated, and grow wildly in the mountains and hillsides of the Middle East. The citizens have no plans to use this plant against the US in hopes of taking over our country. It would be like France’s government deciding dandelions were illegal and if one grew naturally in your yard -president obama you would be called a terrorist and locked away…? Is marijuana bad just because bad people live around it?... What about the presidents in the past, of 44 presidents, 13 have admitted to smoking, growing and supporting the marijuana industry. G. Washington, would use marijuana to sooth pain, no doubt for his wooden teeth, it was the original aspirin, he has also noted in a personal journal how he would go down by the swamps where he had his marijuana fields and separate the males from females. Thomas Jefferson another president known for recreational and medical use of marijuana is credited with the phrase in the Declaration of Independence, “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Seems like the pursuit of happiness is being held against US citizens. When the majority is actively vocalizing and grasping for the logical and simple change that will bring our country back to life.

RHODE ISLAND

LEGISLATOR BUST

by Zat Nickatel

R

hode Island House of Representatives minority leader (R) Robert A. Watson of East Greenwich, who in the past, has refused to even debate over the decriminalization of marijuana in Rhode Island, is now facing charges of his own. He was recently arrested for DUI and marijuana possession in East Haven Connecticut on April 22nd 2011. Members of the East Haven PD stopped Watson at a police “sobriety roadblock”. The arresting officer said that he could smell alcohol and marijuana in the cab of Watson’s pick-up truck and that he was slurring his speech. The officer also claimed that Mr. Watson’ s eyes were “glossy and bloodshot”. The police claim that Watson performed poorly on his field sobriety tests. As a result, they determined he was unable to drive, and proceeded to place him in custody. After arresting Watson, the officer reported finding a small plastic bag containing a “green leafy plant-like substance” and a small wooden marijuana-smoking pipe, in his pants pocket. An alcohol breath test performed at the police station determined that Watson’s blood-alcohol level was .05 percent, which was far below the state’s .08 limit. Watson claims the police are falsifying the results of the field sobriety test. “I wish there had been cameras there. I wish it wasn’t just my word against the police,” he said. East Haven police have said their cars are not equipped with cameras. Watson admits to using marijuana to treat his chronic pancreatitis flare-ups. He described his pain to Providence Journal reporters as: “debilitating pain that literally had me flat on my back, wondering at what point I decide an ambulance comes and takes me away. And I’ve got to confess it (Cannabis) worked. It provided relief. And it alleviated the pain.” Watson claims he brought the cannabis to Connecticut because he had just experienced a painful flare-up the day before. He was there for the day helping a friend move, and needed a way to alleviate his pain in the event of another

flare-up. Although medical marijuana is legal in RI, he did not become a documented medical marijuana patient. When asked why he didn’t go through the legal means to obtain the right to use cannabis medically, he said he was reluctant to legally become a medical marijuana patient because he feared his personal medical information would be leaked out of the Rhode Island Department of Health. A Health Department spokeswoman assured reporters: “We have been running the program for almost four years now and we have not released any patient’s names.” Watson was quoted as saying: “Now I know that the Department of Health prides itself on the confidentiality of that program. But let’s face it,” Watson said. “I am a public official, as we all are, we’re a small state, and I am not certain that my privacy wouldn’t be compromised were I to do this medical marijuana treatment in the proper form and fashion.” On Monday May 2nd 2011, House minority leader Robert A. Watson was voted out of his leadership position in The Rhode Island House of Representatives. When asked why the sudden decision was made, the new House minority leader (R) Brian Newberry replied to reporters: “We had not a chance to talk about it with one another, to digest it, to really take in the situation. We had a week to do that, we were able to talk to each other about it, see how we felt and the majority of us have had a change in heart.” Clearly Watson was correct in his assessment of how the public and his fellow legislators would react to such a high ranking public official being caught using cannabis to alleviate a medical condition. When asked about his plans for the future, Watson told The Associated Press: “I’m not going anywhere. I will continue to be the same voice that I have always been,” Watson said. “I’m proud of the role I have played.” Well the truth is most Rhode Islanders are not proud of the way Watson handled the aftermath of his arrest and outing as a cannabis user. He makes the medical marijuana program look bad by not trusting the confidentiality of the Health Department. Watson also essentially turned his back on mainstream responsible adult smokers by arguing against decriminalization. The people of Rhode Island need to take a look at what is going on in more progressive areas of the country like Colorado and California. We need to realize that our politicians work for us, and we have the constitutional right to only elect public servants we feel will best represent our wishes. Rhode Islanders need to stop electing these hypocritical politicians who are not serving the best interests of the people.▀
