The September 11th Attack

By Alden

Five Interesting Facts about 9/11

Fire has never — prior to or after 9/11 — caused any steel frame building to collapse. It is hard to explain why the Twin Towers fell. 1.

This is my family tree. My historical narrative is based on my mother’s point of view.

2. Whenever contact is lost with any airplane, fighter jets routinely take to the air to investigate. This commonly occurs about 100 times per year in under 20 minutes. However, on 9/11, nearly two hours passed without any signals from the planes taken. 3. Some of the 9/11 "suicide hijackers" are still alive. At least five of the alleged hijackers may have trained at U.S. military bases.

My family has lived in the same small town for three generations, and all of the relatives of mine who were part of the World War II have passed away. I wish I could have gotten to know them, and interview them for this project. This project was important, so I could learn how I came to evolve. We could all be very different people if our grandparents hadn’t fought in a war and survived. As a matter of fact, we could be non-existent. I hope everyone around me learned something interesting about their family history. The part I enjoyed the most about this project was when I interviewed my mother. She gave me very short answers that were hard to collect facts from, and it was good to practice my interview skills. My hardest challenge I had to overcome was finding a good idea to write about. As I said before, for three generations, my family has lived in the same small town, so this was extremely hard.

Authors Note

On September 11th, 2001, Osama bin Laden launched an attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. It affected so many people, even if they were not at the scene of the crime. My mother was one of

9/11, 2001 By Alden

Rolling over, I received a mouthful of soft pillow, which made me feel like I was suffocating. Spitting, I rolled onto my back again, deciding it was time to get out of bed. Slowly, my head angled toward the clock on the wall. It was after nine o’clock, and the smell of my mother-‐in-‐law’s house was so comforting and natural; but so was the common murmuring of the TV, a daily ritual. Today, it seemed to be turned up especially loud. Dejectedly, my legs lid of the bed and a shock was sent through them as they hit the icy 2loor. The cold tiles seemed to become colder as I made my way to the kitchen, stinging my feet. When I arrived, a warm, cozy 2ire was crackling heartily in the hearth. Chris was standing next to it, with a somber expression on his face. As the news came on, I saw what was wrong: what looked like a small plane had crashed into what looked like the New York world trade center, but that wasn’t correct. A huge black and red cloud erupted from the once snazzy-‐looking building as the small plane made contact with it, and dark smoke began its slow descent over Manhattan.

“I’m so sorry, Janie,” Chris said, “no one knows who attacked.” I looked

down at my wrinkled pink pajamas, and then back at him. “Can I,” I said, solemnly, “have some breakfast?” Chris made me some cereal – Honey Nut Cheerios -‐ gave it to me, and I stared at them, my stomach feeling too queasy to eat. My children came running into the kitchen at the sound, and Chris made them some cereal, too. The news reporter, as if not caring about my feelings, glanced at his papers and then backs at the camera. “There are no suspicions as to who was responsible,” he continued after another glance, “And, as a matter of fact, the only information was have is that they are still caring for the wounded and the people who passed away. They will be missed.” I couldn’t believe this was happening. There were pictures of myself standing on top of the World Trade Center, and now it was gone. But now it was gone. It shouldn’t have fallen down. It was too big and sturdily built for this fate. There were so many lives and memories lost with that building. Who would commit a crime like this, or any crime? Russell squealed that he had spilled his cereal, and shook me back to the present. I sighed, realizing I couldn’t dwell on this any longer. I had a husband and children, and they needed to be taken care of. I had a job, no distractions acceptable.
