Makes Beautiful Results Easy Since inventing our very first wood stain in 1877, Cabot has developed a comprehensive family of products specifically designed to work together while adding beauty and protection to virtually any interior project.
I N T E R I O R WO O DC A R E S Y S T E M P R E PA R E Proper surface preparation is the key to a successful project. Begin by thoroughly sanding the surface with progressively finer grades of sandpaper. Applying a wood conditioner prior to staining softwoods will help develop a more even and uniform color. Start with Cabot for a great finish.
STAIN Cabot’s premium Wood Stain enhances the natural beauty of wood while developing rich colors that accentuate wood grain. Available in both oil-based and water-based formulas, Cabot Wood Stains are user-friendly and allow for even color development for beautiful results. Choose from the warm wood tones of our ready-mix color palette or the expanded selection of our custom-tinted colors.
P ROT E C T Cabot offers a collection of clear finishes that offer superior clarity and lasting durability. Whether you choose oil or water-based polyurethane, varnish, or even lacquer, you’ll find superior quality in every can. Plus, with a variety of sheens to choose from, you’ll develop a finish that will protect your project for years to come.

T E C H N I C A L DESCRIPTION Recommended Uses: Cabot PRO.V.T. covers previously painted or stained surfaces in just one coat, improving project completion time and maximizing labor efficiencies. Cabot PRO.V.T. is so advanced that it does not require the use of a primer coat on non-extractive-prone wood species such as pine, white cedar or cypress. In addition, this product has been developed and tested for use in colder temperatures, extending the exterior maintenance season for professionals in cooler climates. This versatile, fade resistant and waterrepellent exterior stain provides superior results when applied on new or reconditioned wood siding and shingles, cement siding, manufactured hardboards, previously painted surfaces, aluminum and pre-primed ferrous metal, masonry, stucco and plywood panel siding. Composition: Advanced 100% acrylic, richly pigmented, opaque stain. Finish: Dries to a flat finish. Colors: Available in high-hiding Ultra White #0812 and four bases for tinting to an unlimited color selection. Tinting/Intermixing: Cabot’s PRO.V.T. is available in four tint bases; White #0801, Neutral #0806, Deep #0807 and Medium #0808, that must be tinted with compatible universal colorants.
I N F O R M A T I O N
Coverage: On smooth surfaces covers approximately 300-400 square feet per gallon (7.4-9.8 square meters per liter) and on rough surfaces 200-300 square feet per gallon (4.9-7.4 square meters per liter). These rates will vary depending on the porosity of the surface. Packaging/Containers: Available in one-gallon and five-gallon containers. TECHNICAL DATA Cleanup and Disposal: Clean brushes and equipment with warm water and soap or detergent. Drying Time: Approximately 1 hour, recoat after 4 hours. Note that cold temperatures and/or high humidity may impede the dry time. Pigment Type: Titanium dioxide, iron oxide pigments, light-fast organic pigments and silica. Vehicle Type: 100% acrylic resin. V.O.C. Content: Maximum of 350 grams per liter (2.92 lbs./gal.). APPLICATION Surface Preparation: Proper surface preparation is the key to maximum stain performance.
Stirring: Stir thoroughly before and occasionally while using. If the job requires more than one container, or different batches are used, blend them together to ensure uniformity of color. Application Methods: Apply evenly with a brush or spray. Best results can be obtained by using a high-quality, synthetic bristle brush or airless sprayer. Always backbrush immediatly after each section is coated to ensure proper penetration. Apply stain to small sections at a time. To avoid lap marks, start at one edge and follow through to the end of the boards or to a natural break such as a door, window or corner. Dramatic color changes may require more than one coat.
