NTC 302 Week 1 Cloud Migration

     

You are a systems engineer contracted to move The Grass is Greener, Inc. (GIG, Inc.) from their on-premises data center to the cloud. GIG, Inc. is a large landscaping company that has outgrown their current IT structure. They have a strong online presence that provides 50% of their new customer traffic and the convenient online payment section for customers. Both of these front-ends are connected to a back-end database that houses critical data that includes inventory, scheduling, pricing history, and personal identifiable information of their customers. Below are the company's requirements: The company has a webserver and database that they definitely want to move to the cloud. The system will need to be accessed from different offices as well as in the field. Secure network connectivity to the environment is a must. They also have a file server that they are considering migrating based on longterm costs. The company keeps files for a period of 5 years for compliance reasons. Company management is very concerned about increased technology costs. Last year, the company lost several thousand records due to a hard drive failure. They would like to ensure that any solution provided takes into account redundancy and reliability.

    

Create a 2- to 3-page summary that discusses the benefits and concerns of moving to a cloud environment. Ensure you include this information in your summary: Costs Technology High level design options (IaaS, SaaS and PaaS) Security Reliability Submit your summary. Note: This assignment is accumulative, and you will see its evolution as you complete each week. Ensure that you design for a complete solution, but you can update each part before adding it to the final presentation.

   

Last week, you discussed GIG, Inc.'s benefits and concerns with moving to the cloud. This week, you will create a high-level diagram in Microsoft® Visio® of the resilient aspects of the system provided by AWS. The diagram should cover the system architecture in the AWS environment. Specific AWS (e.g., AWS Availability Zones, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon CloudFront, etc.) that will provide reliability, availability, and continuity across the migrated environment need to be included. Also, ensure you include the following: Costs Specific AWS Connectivity across multiple availability zones At least one AWS that will support your design for fault tolerance (if one system were to fail) Submit your diagram.

In Week 1, you discussed GIG, Inc.'s benefits and concerns with moving to the cloud. Last week, you created a high-level diagram of a system using built-in AWS that provided reliability, availability, and continuity across the migrated environment. This week, choose one of the following database scenarios: Transactional database (e.g., eCommerce)

 

   

Analytic database (query very large datasets) Internet scale application (serves content and stores both structured or unstructured data) Create a diagram in Microsoft® Visio® that applies built-in AWS that visualizes the chosen system and implementation steps. Create a 6- to 8-slide presentation that outlines the following: Overview of AWS database options The best AWS database service for the chosen scenario Support the decision with evidence Outline the key features of the given database Submit your diagram and presentation.

NTC 302 Week 4 Cloud Migration: Security

  

   

In Week 1, you discussed GIG, Inc.'s benefits and concerns with moving to the cloud. In Week 2, you created a high-level diagram of a system using built-in AWS that provided reliability, availability, and continuity across the migrated environment. Last week, you chose a database and created a diagram that visualized the chosen system and implementation steps. This week, you will create a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet and provide a summary for the critical IAM structure provided below. This will be used for all systems and ensure all users have only the privileges needed for their job. The company has three levels of access: Customer (Minimal-web only) Administrative (Implementation-access to Cloud environment at a programmatic level and operational level) System (The requirement(s) for system to system access) The company security compliance controls need to ensure that each level of access is only allowed to authorized users/systems. Create a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet matrix listing all applicable information for each level of access, and ensure you include this information: AWS that provide access control (network access control list, domain name service, security groups, etc.) Types of restrictions (port, protocols, etc.) The specific implementation matrix for each level (security groups will only allow port 22 to this level) A basic set of IAM users, groups, and roles Write a 1-page summary in Microsoft® Word about the structures and security benefits. Submit your spreadsheet and summary.

     

In Week 1, you discussed GIG, Inc.'s benefits and concerns with moving to the cloud. In Week 2, you created a high-level diagram of a system using built-in AWS that provided reliability, availability, and continuity across the migrated environment. In Week 3, you chose a database and created a diagram that visualized the chosen system and implementation steps. Last week, you created a spreadsheet that covered each level and provided a summary of the structures that explained the security benefits. This week, compile all your work from previous weeks and integrate it into your migration plan in a cohesive manner. Additional material about the transition may be required. The plan will be presented to the CEO, CFO, and CTO and should have a professional construction. You will then create a 10- to 12-slide multimedia-rich Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation that explains the proposed migration plan and includes the following items: Benefits of moving to the cloud One-for-one transition plan for the given requirement (e.g., the webserver will be moved to an EC2 instance that is placed behind an ELB) Proposed architecture diagram (how systems are set up) Proposed network flow diagram (how data flows through the system) IAM security policy plan Database plan Submit your plan and presentation.
