FIELD HOUSE
GROUND FLOOR PLAN
This project proposes a community centre building to accompany the Halifax Oval, a skating rink and running track located on the Halifax Common. The community centre combines facilities for the skating rink, such as a skate rental and warming area, with an art gallery and creative camp. The building provides a flexible space for artists to work and stay, as well as an exhibition space for them to display their work. The artistic and community spaces will act as a focal point for the neighbourhood, and provide a space for communal gathering and recreation.

The shipping container vacation house is located on a very steep cliff-side site overlooking Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. The house is oriented towards views of the beach and ocean, while also turning away from the noisy traffic of the surrounding neighbourhood. The kitchen and living areas open onto a deck, barbecue area, and the adjacent swimming pool floats over the edge of the cliff, providing a unique perspective of the beach below. A rooftop terrace is accessible from the upper-level guest rooms and hallway, while the master bedroom has a walkout into the backyard.
This project was part of a competition to showcase the viability of shipping containers as architectural materials. I found, in the course of my design, that the frame of the containers was the most useful part, providing a stable, lightweight frame with very human dimensions. The containers do not, however, provide much in the way of insulation, interior finishing, or weatherproofing. As such, this design features a shipping container frame, with inset stud and curtain walls. Frames were left bare in the interior of the building, to hint at the structure of the building

FOLDING A PAPER LILY
The paper flower garden was designed as both a physical space and grieving ritual to help mourners overcome the loss of loved ones. They write their feelings down on a piece of paper, which is then folded into a lily. The lily is then “planted” in the rock garden. Over time, the paper lilies dissolve in the rain, blow away in the wind, or get eaten by animals, releasing the mourner’s emotions into the world. The built space is meant to separate mourners from their regular environment, and create a safe, reverent space for them to perform their ritual.
AFFORDABLE STUDENT HOUSING This prototype explores the concept of affordable student housing in Vancouver. Tasked with creating student dormitories for two in less than 50 square metres, I proposed a system of kinetic millwork boxes, that allow students to separate the apartment into bedrooms at night, while using the same spaces for other tasks during the day. In this way, I was able to achieve a series of dormitories for two in just 36 square metres.

SET CHAIR This chair is the product of a one week intensive product design, as a part of one of my studio classes. In 6 days, we were to design and build a chair for a cinema director working in our building. We were given one sheet of half-inch plywood, and could not use any glue of mechanical fasteners. As a result, I designed a chair that disassembles easily and quickly, and can be used comfortably for hours at a time. It packs flat, is easy to ship, and can be stored in relatively small spaces.

FASHION DESIGNS WITH NIKKI ROSYCHUK
As part of a charity event to raise awareness about womens’ issues, I was asked to help design two dresses for the theme “fashion is freedom”. I designed the first dress, shown on the left, along with the veil and airbrush tattoos that accompanied it. I also built the skirt for the newspaper dress, while my partner designed the top of the dress and the other ornamentation. WRAP DRESS
