Principal Began this endeavor by coaching neighborhood children who wanted to improve their pitching mechanics and, encouraged by the response, subsequently built a state-of-the-art 8,000 sq. ft. facility housing a pitching clinic targeted to young players ages 8–25. Enlisted the services of four Major League colleagues as Summer Camp instructors and promoted the facility via television, sports radio and public appearances throughout metro St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri. Instructed youth in large and small group settings and one-on-one. Evaluated players’ arm strength, flexibility and pitching mechanics to determine skill level. Recommended exercise programs and altered pitching mechanics to balance arm strength and help reduce arm stress, respectively. Taught defensive tactics. Introduced sports psychology concepts to improve mental attitude, concentration and performance under the stress of competition. Helped younger athletes to succeed by focusing on realistic goals and building on small successes. Counseled older athletes on the challenges and realities of professional athletic careers. Built the student census from 20 to more than 12,000 over 7 years. Coached Mark Burley, Frances Howell North High School, now with the Chicago White Sox and several other players who entered the minor leagues. Helped numerous aspiring players gain athletic scholarships to Division I universities. Voted Riverfront Times “Best Training Center,” 1996-2001.
