P A P E R L A N TE R N ANALYTICAL DRAWINGS
Movement
Symmetry
Balance
PROJECT OverVIEW The ideation of the design was based on natural process of sunflower’s disk. The disk of sunflower is formed in natural spiral pattern based on Fibonacci sequence. The analytical approach to the design brought the idea of balance, symmetry and movement of the disk. Those three aspects become the basis of the design. They are applied in three-dimensional form of curved cones that creates the curvilinear form of the lantern. There is one curved cone that becomes the root of the lantern that branches downwards and outwards. The growth of the branches is spiraling around the main root that balances the structure and creates movement to the form. In addition, the form from below looks symmetrical due to the spiraling effect of the growth. The triangular holes explodes the light effect of the lantern that is similar to the sunflower’s disk.

hammock design
project overview The design for the hammock is a cocoon tree that evolves around a tree which allows the users to explore the tree from different perspectives. It projects the surroundings view through the openings of the structure which are above the ground and under the tree that can be experienced by climbing and crawling in the structure. The design is intended to enhance the relationship between people and nature by projecting the nature through the combination of the use of nature itself and technology. The structure uses timber as the natural element. Its lightweight and durability after several treatment suit the needs of the structure. The use of technology is applied in the design to achieve the form of the cocoon. The combination finally creates an organic form of cocoon tree.
design analysis bach chamber music hall // Zaha hadid Manchester, United kingdom 2008 The design is inspired by the cocoon structure of Zaha Hadid’s Chamber Music Hall. The music hall design explores the possibilities of form that may be produced by geometries using parametric design approach. Design computation allows us to achieve a huge amount of design possibilities. There are many algorithms that can be combined together. However, there are some constraints in certain areas where the algorithms will not work. The materiality and site condition are crucial in the design process.

hammock design DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
DESIGN FABRICATION
design 01 The structure follows the form of the tree branches and projects the view to several points in the surroundings. The curving of the structure also considers the branches of the tree to ensure its load-bearing capacity able to hold the load. Therefore, it can create a space where people can crawl and climb in.
design 02 The final model eliminate the hexagonal form into circular form to make it more organic.

öppenhet [openness]
the light and continuous view that harmonise the feeling of the users to the public and their surroundings environment
project overview The project is to build a Motel and Business Headquarters for Dispersed Special Interest Groups in 2045. There are three DSIGs that are going to use the building: 1. Yoga Association of Australia It is a voluntary non-for-profit organisation that brings together all yoga teachers from different traditions, styles and background. There will be daily yoga session and fortnightly workshop or seminar about yoga, health and mindfulness 2. National Association of Visual Arts (NAVA) It is a national peak body to achieve a thriving Australian visual & media arts, crafts and design sector and a more vibrant, distinctive and ethical cultural environment. Their goals are to have a productive environment for the visual arts, strong visual art infrastructure, engaged communities and vibrant & sustainable organisation. 3. MT Architecture It is a small architectural practice and interior design that focused on clients’ satisfaction. The projects are usually small to medium rise building. This company is run by 5-6 people. Their main value is a strong teamwork.
URban Context The site is located at the corner intersection of Spencer Street and Batman Street. In 2045, West Melbourne will be crowded by high-rise buildings due to population growth and vast technology innovation. The red cylindrical building is the proposed building design. The circular form is located at the corner of the block to maximise the view and opening to the surrounding envirinments.

SPATIAL ORGANISATION
Structural diagram
The building is divided into two towers based on its function: services and public. The towers then interlock each other to merge as one build form. The space is radially organised that the partitions follow the radius of the building.
The structure of the building is centralised to minimise the columns needed to give openness to the interor of the building. The main tower is using curtain wall glazing to maximise the view and light penetration. On the other hand, the services tower is covered with concrete wall that works for both structural element and building envelope.
