Spanish 3 – First quarter project
Assignment: You will re-write a children’s story demonstrating that you understand the uses of the preterite, imperfect and present/past perfect tenses.
Criteria: 1. Write your tale in the form of a storybook. You can choose from one of the examples below. If you have another idea, let me know. You must give the story a twist, such as a modern-day makeover or alternate ending. Don’t forget that in fairy tales the imperfect is used for setting the scene! For actions that took place within the story, use the preterite. But be careful when there are two actions in one sentence. 2. Remember to keep it simple. This is a children’s story. The more complex the story, the more room for error. Don’t use a translator!! A 0% grade will be given for the use of a translator. Beware of asking native speakers for translations. You may be given something that you have not learned yet, in terms of grammar. I want to see what you have learned and can do with Spanish.
Possible titles:
La Bella y la Bestia (Beauty and the Beast) La Bella Durmiente (Sleeping Beauty) Blanca Nieves y los 7 enanitos (Snow White and the 7 dwarfs) Los 3 Cerditos (The 3 Little Pigs) El Patito Feo (The Ugly Duckling) Caperucita Roja (Little Red Riding Hood) Hansel y Gretel Pinocho (Pinnochio) El Mago de Oz (The Wizard of Oz) El Patito Feo (The Ugly Duckling)
Steps: 1. Rough Draft: Write your story using Word and bring to class on September 27/28. Be sure to include the title of your tale. Your story should demonstrate your ability to use both past tenses to effectively provide the story with an elaborate setting, sequence of events/actions that push toward the resolution of the story. Next, your peers will critique your story and make comments to help you in working toward a great final draft. 2. Peer Critique: You must comment on at least 2 of your classmate's stories. Your comment should include both positive and critical feedback. Be sure to give meaningful comments. Show that you have actually read the story. Please use different colored pens.

One link should be a video relating to your story (in Spanish!). Another link could be a link to help tell your story or that shows an alternate version or the history behind it or its author. o at least 50 verbs. Verbs have to be numbered and bolded. Verbs may be in, preterite, imperfect and perfect tenses, depending on the message that you are putting forth. Please include at least 10 of each (preterite, imperfect, and perfect) Ex: La princesa (1) vivía en un castillo. Ex: Ella (2) estaba comiendo. Compound tenses (progressive tenses + perfect tenses) are counted as one verb. o oral reading of your story, to be done in front of the class. o Suggestion- put story, images, links together in Powerpoint. Then save the ppt as a PDF document. After making a free Issuu.com account, upload the PDF to create your storybook. 4.
