In 1988, Shankar co-founded CAMS with his wife, Vijayasudha, to provide platform-based services to the Indian financial industry. The company received significant investment from HDFC Group in 2000, accelerating its growth. In 2007, CAMS took on a private equity investor for further expansion. Shankar also founded Sterling Software (India) Pvt. Ltd. in 1989, offering IT services and software solutions to the Mutual Fund industry. The company has grown into a professionally managed organization with over 4,000 employees, providing IT and platform-based transaction processing and CRM services to the mutual fund, insurance, and banking sectors in India.
