Harish Manwani retired at the end of 2014 from Unilever as their Chief Operating Officer responsible for managing the P&Lacross Unilever’s global markets. He is currently the Senior Operating Partner to Blackstone and also serves as Director on several international boards.
Harish joined Unilever in India as a management trainee in 1976.
Through his career, he held senior general management
positions in India and internationally. In 1995, he joined the Board of Hindustan Unilever Limited as Director responsible for Personal Products. In 2000, he moved to the UKas Senior Vice President, Global Hair Care and Oral Care.
In 2001, he was
appointed President, Latin America andalso served as Chairman of Unilever’s Latin America Advisory Council.
In 2004, he was appointed President of the North America Business Group (Home & Personal Care) and, in 2005, joined the Unilever Executive Board as President, Asia, Africa, Middle East and the region was later extended to include Central and Eastern Europe. In 2011, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer with worldwide responsibilities for Unilever’s operating companies.
Harish serves on the Board of Directors of Gilead Sciences, Inc, Qualcomm Incorporated, Whirlpool Corporation, Tata Sons Private Limited and EDBI Pte Ltd. He is also Chairman of the Executive Board of Indian School of Business.
In 2008, he received the CNBC Asia Business Leader of the Year Award. In 2012, he was conferred the Public Service Medal by the Singapore Government.
HARISH MANWANI Former COO, Unilever Senior Operating Partner, Blackstone
Harish is an Honours graduate from Bombay University and holds a Masters degree in management studies. He has also attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School.
Mr N Sankar obtained his B.Sc.Tech in Chemical Engineering from the AC College of Technology and thereafter obtained his Masters Degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
After an eventful career of over five decades, Mr Sankar is currently the Chairman of The Sanmar Group, operating in the core areas of Chemicals, Shipping, Metals and Engineering. Apart from India, the Group has operations in Egypt, USA & Mexico and the Group’s sales - currently around a billion dollars annually.
Over the years, The Sanmar Group has been involved in over thirty joint ventures with leading multi nationals like Flowserve, Crane, Cabot, Emerson, Pentair, Tyco, AMP, B F Goodrich, Bayer, Elf Atochem etc. The number of joint ventures currently is five, all of whom have completed between twenty and forty years of successful operation, bearing testimony to the Group’s uniquely successful joint venture management style.
Mr Sankar serves on the Board of NOCIL Limited, Mumbai, and the India Advisory Board of FLSmidth A/S, Denmark.
Mr Sankar has held office in several public bodies representing trade and industry as: President – Assocham (1991-92), Chairman – Indo-US Joint Business Council (1998-99), Chairman – Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1986-87), President – Madras Management Association (1981-87), etc. Mr Sankar has received member awards recognizing his services to business and industry. Over the years Mr Sankar has been involved with the management of a number of educational and charitable organisations. He is currently a member of the board of The CHILDS Trust. Earlier he was Chairman of The Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation and Chennai Heritage, and a member of the Board of Governors of The Indian Institute of ManagementKozhokide. Keenly interested in sports, he has been Vice President of the All India Tennis Association, and President of the Tamil Nadu

Cricket and Tennis Associations. Mr Sankar served as the Honorary Consul General for Denmark in South India from 1989 to 2017, and was been awarded the `Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, First Class’ by the Danish Government in recognition of his services.
