The Eclipse

An emptiness enormous A void full An eerie silence ear-splitting But as usual The earth revolves around itself The same stars twinkle throughout The same elements function to perfection As if unconcerned and undisturbed Over man’s eclipse or existence Now the paragon of all animals The presumed Lord of all things Is held to ransom and ridicule By a virus infinitesimal and invisible And with his execrable ego erased And vaulting ambition proven invain He masks his guilty face With a tiny piece of porous cloth And hides himself in shame in every nation The so called Maker of marvels mourns in isolation To him, Vaticans Meccas and varanasis can now await No longer to him is the Taj a razz-ma-tazz No longer Paris the gar’den’ of pleasures Amidst ruins, Rome is now groaning Under piles of corpses countless 3

The Great Wall of China is now Not a fascinating fortress either It is solitary without a single footfall The Statue of Liberty has now no freedom of choices In famed Pyramids, Pharaohs slumber in secrecy still Oh, Man! Whither your world of power, pomp and pelf? Will you now reorient yourself in remorse Or relapse into………………? (Published in Your Space, Muse India and World Festival of Poetry)
