PROFILE Mr Ramesh Jude Thomas
“RJT to his friends and colleagues, is credited with introducing Brand Valuation as a strategic business tool to Indian industry. He led India's first known strategic Brand Valuation for Titan Industries Ltd., immediately followed by 17 companies in the TATA group. Under his stewardship, EQUITOR has become a sought after boutique consulting firm whose work is based on the philosophy that brands are business assets and ought to be treated as such. This includes valuing them, investing in them and utilising them to enhance the enterprise value of businesses. In so doing, it has delivered in excess of$ 7 billion in additional shareholder value.
While the team's best-known work is for large clients such as TATA Group, Murugappa Group, Thomas Cook and lnfosys, its most influential work is with mid-size professional entrepreneurial firms such as Selec, Duroflex and Shemaroo.
Synopsis The quest for sustainable value creation is perennial but its need is felt much more in times of drought such as now.
Growth on a sustainable basis can be achieved only when the true components of Enterprise Value are isolated and understood in detail. In the current context when over two third’s of the average Enterprise Value of businesses world over, lies in Intangibles, it is natural to lean into the
strength of the brand to build or re-build businesses. In a post-Covid world, the relevance of Brands as a strategic, business asset cannot be undermined. The Brand Value Management series can help build an appreciation
about how brands can help become the arrowhead for the business, driving revenues and creating value. This however is likely to remain a distant dream unless the entire eco-system starting with directors and leadership internally, and lawyers and accountants externally, become guardians and champions of this asset. In this edition, we look forward to listening to one of the pioneers of this thinking, Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti himself.
