Women's Manager Convention - 2021 - 27 March

Page 1

Introduction The Annual MMA Women Managers' Convention is a celebration of the spirit of women; and the many diverse roles women play. Each year the theme for the convention has revolved around the evolving roles and needs of today’s women. The event creates a platform for women across different walks of life, to come together, share their thoughts, opinions, insights and experiences. What binds these women is the urge to exceed and excel in their respective fields, be it as business leaders, entrepreneurs, thinkers, artists or policymakers. The focus of the convention is to inspire and guide women to grow in every area of their life.

The Convention As working mothers perform more childcare and face increased job insecurity, there are fears COVID-19 has undone years of advancement. But could the pandemic be a catalyst for Progress? The MMA Women Manager's Convention this year seeks to contribute to conversation about challenges faced by women, impact of the pandemic and what it means for the New Woman of today. The aim is to bring together viewpoints, ideas and innovations that are reflective of a changing dynamic. We will have open discussion about navigating the many faces of independence, tradition, modernity and the resulting potpourri of identities that is “The New Woman of Today”!

Special Session 1 THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM We often have a hard time talking about adversity. But the pandemic has changed life for everyone. Work from home (WFH), which existed in pockets, is now the norm. Everything has turned digital. Children are schooling online, which was earlier unimaginable. This session asks the difficult question about what has changed for women with Covid-19? Lean in statistics from the US tell us that one in four women are considering downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce due to Covid-19. Key perspectives on: · Is this a gender-neutral crisis or has the pandemic amplified biases women have faced for years? · As women take on heavier burdens at home, do women worry they'll be judged more harshly at work? · Is women's mental health a new challenge?

Special Session 2 PLAYING FIELD It's been believed the world would be better if more countries and companies were run by women. And 2020 proved this right: women leaders consistently stood out for their empathetic and effective response to Covid-19. Across the world from New Zealand, Taiwan, Germany, and Finland, there have been success stories. The winds of change seem to be blowing at all levels. In this session we explore if our definition of a “good” leader is evolving. Key perspectives on: · Are “soft skills” that women are credited for growing in importance? · Is the hushed argument about the clash between the biological clock and the career

clock still relevant? · Are women leaders often held to higher performance standards?

Special Session 3 SILVER LININGS Companies today are taking important steps to support employees during Covid-19. With work from home options, the digital economy and entrepreneurship coming to the fore, will the future post-Covid-19 present women with more opportunities? Key perspectives on: ·

Will this give birth to a more entrepreneurial dynamic? Will women embrace it?

·

Is the digital woman different from the woman of the past?

·

Will wellness and mental health take center stage and will more women plunge into these occupations?
