Tunnel becomes Banksy art exhibit A disused road tunnel in south London has been turned into a giant exhibition space by graffiti artist Banksy. Murals in the Bristol artist's famous stencil style appear with work by 29 other artists in a half-mile stretch of the tunnel in Leake Street, Waterloo. Images of Madonna kissing Britney Spears and a hoodie appear alongside installations of crashed cars. People can add their own stencil work to the tunnel walls in a three-day exhibition, opening on Saturday. Reclusive artist Banksy kept the tunnel's location secret until Friday morning. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7379614.stm

These five posters are called "The Peace series". The same character, a meditating bear, is sitting in the middle of each composition. It's a weird mix of childish references (main character, animals) and a cold environment (colors, computers, emptiness)

Now, you are in a situation of making the important decision in your life. You just don’t decide on something without any basis or supporting facts it would not become a sound decision. Such a thing would apply when deciding to choose on what background to use on your website. Making a website is like painting, you need to have a canvass and then you use different color palettes to put it into a blank and dull space. The colour background used in a website is very important since this is where you will apply all the colours that will be used for the web design. But choosing the right colour for the background can be a hefty task. There are two colours that are commonly used as background: black and white. But to decide on what colour to use is another thing. It can be challenging to most people especially who does not have any background about the colour wheel or art, for that matter. Anyhow, this task is easier when you have some knowledge on the possible output upon using such colour. To know whether to use black or white as the background, here are some things that you need to know.

White

Black

Search engines such as yahoo and google used white as colour background. These two are the top most visited websites. The logic of using such colour as background is to make the site simple.

Only a few websites dared to use this colour as a background. Some dating sites and porn sites are using this colour as background. For those sites who want to dare to be different this colour is the good choice.

Advantages: • Different colors can be applied and blend in using such background. • The texts can be seen and read clearly. • Pictures of different color variations can easily blend in. Disadvantages: • Commonly used, and it can look very dull. • Too many colours to choose from on what to apply.

Advantages: • Few colours to choose from, less time used in selecting the colours to be used. • Can catch every visitor’s attention. • The site will stand out from the rest of the millions site in the web. Disadvantages: • Applying different colour palettes can be challenging and takes time to settle to the right colour combination. • Only few colours to choose from when it comes to text and can’t play around with different colours.

In South Africa, a small group of women from the townships around Cape Town are changing their lives, and exciting people all over the world by making colourful beaded dolls.... http://www.monkeybiz.co.za/doc.html

Ceramic ar tists Barbara Jackson and Shirley Fintz, passionate collectors of African b e a d w o r k a n d a r t h ave facilitated a revival of an ancient beading tradition in Southern Africa. Together with Mathapelo Ngaka, they made their dream come true. A desire to create employment and empowerment for disadvantaged women in Cape Town has led to the creation of "MONKEYBIZ"

Monkeybiz supplies richly coloured glass beads to women in the townships of Cape Town. The 450 women involved in the project are currently producing exquisite hand beaded artworks - each a unique one-off creation. The women are paid for each piece they produce; and since they work from home, can look after their families and avoid transport costs. The beaded works are creating a sensation wherever they appear - locally and abroad. Historically, bead work, in a South African context, has been the domain of women largely within the Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele and Sotho communities. The women are introduced to the craft directly through their mothers, grandmothers and other women in the community. MonkeyBiz is a non-profit organisation - all profits go back into the communities via payment for bead art and the provision of community services. http://www.monkeybiz.co.za/about.html

KID

Kidrobot is a producer and retailer of designer toys founded in 2002 by Paul Budnitz, specializing in artist-created toys and imports from Japan, Hong Kong, and Europe. Kidrobot has a commercial website, as well operating retail stores in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami Beach. Most items are produced in limited numbers and are, or become, collector's items. Each of the three retail stores features a gallery of designer toys and related art, and often host artist signings to commemorate the release of limited-edition figures, such as the Bondage Labbit by Frank Kozik. As a producer of designer toys, Kidrobot is known for its proprietary Dunny and Munny figures, soft vinyl figurines which resemble cartoon animals based on urban graffiti and stencil art. Artists and designers are commissioned to create Dunnys, while some figures are released unpainted as "blank canvas" do-it-yourself pieces. Contributing artists include Ed Templeton (Toy Machine), Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park, Fort Minor), Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant), Futura 2000 (Mo'Wax), Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl, Gorillaz), MF DOOM (Madvillain), and Mark Hoppus (blink-182, Atticus). A selection of Kidrobot figures are carried by Urban Outfitters, both online and in its retail stores across the U.S. Collectible Dunny's come in limited edition box sets. They come in sets of spray can figurines, spraycaps figurines, and marker figurines. There are also other exclusive Dunny's that are very rare and are only found online through ebay at higher prices than the original Kidrobot website pricing. This is due to the fact that an artist will create a series of a few figurines that cannot be found anywhere else. Once these toys are gone they cannot be found anywhere else unless an owner wants to sell the product on any website for more money. In addition to toys and dolls, Kidrobot produces limited-edition apparel, particularly screen-printed t-shirts and hoodies (typically in editions of 256) featuring Kidrobot characters. JB Classics and Kidrobot are also coming out with collectable/limited edition shoes that seem to be pricey as well, which price around $195.00-$220.00. Kidrobot also makes monogram bags with the company Tilt. ($90.00-$150.00.) The new clothing line for women and men come in funky bright and colorful colors combined with artistic never before seen characters. Kidrobot is owned by Wild Brain, and not affiliated with Giant Robot, the magazine of Asian American pop culture, or the retail stores of the same name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kid_robot

Art is not capable of exact definition.... but it can be used to refer to any human activity that has the intention of conveying messages, emotions, and ideas by through the human senses. Therefore, art is not nature and nature is not art because art is something made and done by man as an expression of himself or as a reflection of his surroundings. Common Concept The common concept of art visual arts like drawings, sculpture and paintings, but art also includes performance like song, music and dance. Over the years, there are many movements in art, marking the different eras in time. The creations made during these different eras reflect the different concepts, theories and underlying philosophies of life and art. Art today is dubbed as modern art. Modern art is a term used for creative and artistic works done as early as the 17th century until the present time. But there are a number of artists, critics and intellectuals who beg to differ about that modern art definition and say that we are now in the post-modern era. It is still highly debatable if we are still in the modern era or in the postmodern era. Modern Art and Modernism Nevertheless, modern art is closely related to modernism. Modern art is an approach towards art that puts much emphasis on emotions, themes and various abstractions. Artists test their creativity and break new ground by experimenting with new methods of seeing and using art materials. Thus, there is a strong tendency to make works that are abstract or do not make much sense to people. These art works look nothing like past works of art. Pre-modern art is art that is obvious and immediately lets the audience see what the art is all about. Modern art does not replicate the reality that we see with our very two eyes. Judgement Do not be quick to disregard these works as trash or mere nonsense. Modernism urges people to go into new heights and new perceptions. Modernism will never simply replicate reality. It will make new realities and expressions. Impressionism, symbolism, cubism, futurism, expressionism are all movements within modern art. Like Modernism, modern art urges people to step out of their comfort zone. You can expect to see artworks that are different. Just because it does not look traditional does not mean it is not art. It is still art since it falls within the broad definition of art. Convey These works are done to convey ideas, emotions, expressions, and concepts to men who open minded enough and willing enough to receive them. With modern art, man finds a new and fresh way to express himself, his thoughts and his surroundings. Modern art is art. http://www.mmblr.com/49/is-modern-art-art/

The Use of Image to Inform The usage of image to inform has come down throughout the ages. Early people drew graphics on cave walls and on paper to inform others of their intent. In the present, we still do the same thing by using a picture or graphics to inform about intent, product or service. Each graphic or picture informs by saying in pictures what we are trying to say without having to get verbal. Pictorial images can easily come across with the meaning that we are trying to convey instead of using verbal language. In pictures, we can convey emotion and feeling. For example, everyone knows the picture of Cupid means Valentines Day. A picture of a lake could mean relaxation. This is the general idea behind using graphics and pictures to inform. Another way that graphics can inform is to make a pie or graph chart. Everyone knows that these are the best images to relay business revenue, or any other type of business information in a clear and understood form. We have grown accustomed to the way of using images and graphics to make a point known. It is sometimes easier to communicate with pictures than relay that same communication verbally. There is no disputing a picture or graphic. The business of using graphics to inform is not new, but the graphics themselves have evolved from cartoon figures to crisp images that are lifelike and very real. As the saying goes “A picture paints a thousand words. This is true in today’s communication. With all the graphics and pictures that abound, there is a picture for nearly everything that you want to say and used in the right way, can convey that message without a word. This is the future of communication in the Digital Age. Image can definitely be used to inform and in fact it is sometimes more effective than written or spoken words because there are lots of instances when it will only take one image to change the way people think about something. See the Mona Lisa for instance. See how it changed the way we view happiness. Or better yet, is it really a depiction of what happiness is? Surely, an image can speak a thousand words but a word is, well, a word. This is the power of image or graphics that we can really tap. This can be a very effective means to inform people of all simplicity or complexity there is in the world today and yesterday.
